I hope the US stays out of it, we have our own problems and I don't see why we constantly have to do things in other countries. All the money that goes to disaster relief and food for poor third world countries could be used to pick up our own economy.
We already spent plenty on our country, and it didn't do shit except make a bank that was already recovering little by little get a bigger bonus for the executives. Considering what we spent on that, $100 million to save countless lives seems like a good reason to spend it. The USA might not be the best country, but we mean well in most things we do.
One good thing that came out of this, was when I watching CNN broadcasting Haitis helping each other out. I saw an obviously poor man( He was wearing rags) before the Earthquake trying to dig up a survivor with a man in a fancy business suit. While it might take decades to recover, unity can be the only result.
It's not staying there long enough to do that to the point it would make a difference, I think last I heard its staying for a week at the VERY most.
But they don't have ANY power. They did get some temporary cellphone towers up, but now the batteries in all the phones have died. Also, with the power from that ship, they can power tools and use them to fix what needs to be fixed on the electrical grid.

Fuck that's an ugly boat. All flat and shit. I bet the sea would just throw it up if it tried to sink.
The social culture in Haiti is a bit odd. The lighter the skin, the more affluent people assume you are. Same for Cambodia. [editline]06:04PM[/editline] Which might not seem odd for white supremacists, but whatever.
My step uncle is stuck in thee Dominican Republic because they are using the airports for aid
It's sad what happened there, and I really hope countries around the world can unify to help this poor nation. I personally think either the UK, US, or Germany should take it under its wing and make it a territory in order to help get things going again.
I know how those poor buggers in Haiti feel... last time I had 30 aftershocks I couldn't find my fucking house either.
The pictures remind me of District 9.
I hate to say it, but I can't seem to muster up any sympathy. The population needs culling anyway. Edit: Maybe the US will arrive to "save the day" and drink up all of their oil and not find any WMDs.
Haiti has no oil.
My honest feelings? More or less indifference. I feel like a lot of people are jumping on the :bandwagon: and riding the moral train. It's a sad day when it takes a mag 7 earthquake to get a little sympathy out of people.
The infrastructure of Haiti was fragile as hell, this Earthquake metaphorically and literally shattered it into bits and pieces.
People died, waah Who gives a fuck, i sure dont
The pictures remind me of District 9.
Johannesburg looks so much better at night than in the day: Now in the day, its true shittiness is exposed:
I hope things get better there, one of the worst places to have an earthquake ):
I hope things get better there, one of the worst places to have an earthquake ):
I agree. It was already bad enough, why did it have to get worse? It makes me sad. :frown:
An official said there could be as much as 500000 dead, this is a tragedy. [editline]08:28PM[/editline]
People died, waah Who gives a fuck, i sure dont
Hope you die. <3
Honestly, I don't give a fuck about Haiti.
It's a tragedy, and I hope the country recovers without too much trouble. More than a hundred thousand people have died already, and I'd hate to see the number rise.
I'm sorry, good sir, but you seem to not understand the world at all. Rich countries do not do these things out of the goodness of their hearts.
It's like lending a friend a few bucks when he's short. If you never lend anybody any money, people come to see you as a miser and tend to steer clear. If you're generous, you'll find people are more willing to do favors in return. It's part of the reason the US is the world leader in aid, but also because there's no point in hoarding money you're never going to spend. Being a cynic does not make you seem wise, nor does it make you an expert on anything.
An official said there could be as much as 500000 dead, this is a tragedy.
"A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic." - Joseph Stalin
"A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic." - Joseph Stalin
You are misusing the quote.
You are misusing the quote.
It's because Stalin was responsible for the deaths of millions of people. He just wanted to make himself look less bad.
"A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic." - Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin has been wrong before. [editline]06:34PM[/editline]
You are misusing the quote.
also this
"A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic." - Joseph Stalin
I actually like that quote because it's one of the few I remember. I remember it because of how funny it is. It's funny because it's wrong.
It's because Stalin was responsible for the deaths of millions of people. He just wanted to make himself look less bad.
The quote was meant to mean that people emotionally care more about a death if they hear the individual story, rather than just reading "5,000 dead."
whatever
I actually like that quote because it's one of the few I remember. I remember it because of how funny it is. It's funny because it's wrong.
The way people seem to be acting in this thread supports it.
"A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic." - Joseph Stalin
Nah man pretty sure 500,000 deaths is a huge tragedy
The quote was meant to mean that people emotionally care more about a death if they hear the individual story, rather than just reading "5,000 dead."
Also because he was responsible for the deaths of around 20 million Soviets. :patriot:
By Joseph Stalin's logic the earthquake in Haiti is half a tragedy because it's between 1 and 1000000. [editline]08:36PM[/editline]
The way people seem to be acting in this thread supports it.

Honestly, I don't give a fuck about Haiti.
Yeah... wtf is this shit.
By Joseph Stalin's logic the earthquake in Haiti is half a tragedy because it's between 1 and 1000000.
Well if it's half a million and you round it up to the nearest millions, then it's a million.
Yeah... wtf is this shit.
Like someone said before, people tend to act more sympathetic to an individual rather than a group of people. Or if it's puppies.
