They are so fucked. I don't know how anyone can turn things around. They have nothing. No hospitals, no medical equipment. People are doing whatever they want & getting away with it.
As far as I know, living conditions in Haiti were pretty shit even before any of this happened.
I hear that some US soldiers are going in to help the police, but I think it's still going to be chaotic for a long time.
And I'm an honest person, so I'll admit that I find it really entertaining. I love disasters.
Like someone said before, people tend to act more sympathetic to an individual rather than a group of people.
Or if it's puppies.
Nah, either way, I wouldn't give a shit.
Circle of life, etc, all that bullshit.
Well of course, what i'm just trying to say is there is no good reason the us would want to rule or take control there. The reason they are sending soldiers i can tell you now is the same reason they were sent to Katrina was to prevent looting and other shit from going down.
Look. The United States stands to gain from this humanitarian effort in terms of diplomatic relations with other countries. The next time someone says "Americans suck, remember Iraq?" the U.S. diplomats will go. "Nope. Remember Haiti?"
Every country that's helping Haiti now stands to gain from it in the same way.

Not too sure that you're aware of this, but America, believe it or not is ran by people. People usually have some sympathy for events like this, and want to help out of kindness, not always some diplomatic reason, not for money, and sure as hell not for oil.
It's an eye opener really. I feel bad for them, but then again its Haiti. I do hope that they recover though.

It's the circle of life man.

Have a little more faith in humanity. You can't speak for those in Washington, nor those in Berlin, nor those in London, and nor those in Moscow; so quit trying.

The money and resources committed to the Haiti efforts are not spent lightly. I don't think I'd donate a hundred million dollars out of the goodness of my heart, given the US's current national deficit. Unaffiliated people may volunteer to go to Haiti. Governments only act in their countries' or their own interests. Such is a sad truth about the world.
We should stay out of it.
No we should have stayed out of Iraq and Afghanistan. This is something that we shouldn't stay out of.
We should stay out of it.
Why?
If your country has the power and is willing to help, why would you WANT to stay out?
It's not the population of Haiti's fault that they live in a poor country with little hope for jobs or money.
Haiti was already poor, crime ridden, and lacking a strong government infrastructure.
This is going to tear the country apart.
Literally, and figuratively.
It's good because its the right and humane route to take but stupid because the American government is already spending too much between the economy and the wars we are in.
How much has this been on Aussie news? I have Foxtel so I don't really see much news anymore. But yeah, the death toll is tragic.

Or maybe we can give Haiti relief for the sake of being a good neighbor instead of doing it to gain international standing? Just a thought.

Too bad that's not how foreign policy works.
Indifferent to be honest.
Haiti is going to turn into a- never mind.
But on a serious note this is like Mexico. I feel sorry for the people who live there.
Haiti should seriously clean up it's act though.
I have a Hatian friend that I talked to on the phone yesterday.
He says that he's both upset and grateful for this tragedy, but for different reasons than most might expect.
He's upset because Haiti has gotten almost no attention or aid in the past, despite the country being extremely poor. He's glad because they're finally getting the attention and aid that they've needed for so long.
His exact words were "Oh, now they care about Haiti..." :ohdear:
My thoughts go out to anyone affected negatively by this.
I didn't hear about the earthquake until 5 days after it happened
The only thing on CNN was the coverage of this disaster. All I have to say is These people are going to need a lot of help to get back on track. Hopefully the new construction will be better fit for future earthquakes.
I'm Sorry, but don't be such a self centered asshole. It's people like you that make everyone think the US is a shitty country.
But it is :derp:

While it's a shame that this has to happen to anyone, especially to people in that type of a situation, it doesn't effect me in a direct manner, so for now at least I'm not bawwing over it.
I think there are probably more people gonna die from the aftereffects of the earthquake than from the earthquake itself.
Imagine 9 million people without a government, police, houses, anything. The plundering is probably massive.
Right now the media concentrates on Port'O'Prince but the situation is probably far worse in the countryside.
Send peter petrelli in to fight .

Against Samuel.
ok pretty bad joke.
And nothing of value was lost.

Dammit that's what people keep saying to me when I object about the new hyperspace bypass.
By Joseph Stalin's logic the earthquake in Haiti is half a tragedy because it's between 1 and 1000000.
[editline]08:36PM[/editline]
Yeah... wtf is this shit.
It's not what he thinks, it is his theory about how people react to it. Let's take Michael Jackson, his death was taken as massively tragic, and got huge coverage, but when an earthquake kills thousands it gets far less coverage, when logically it should get thousands of times as much.
In essence, the human mind is not logical when it comes to things like this, Stalin was not being literal when he said that, you have to think about it a little.
