Biggest disappointment for me was Game's Jesus Piece just for the fact that he promised it would have no features and no namedropping, when it came out it had more features than R.E.D and still a ton of namedropping.
Biggest disappointment was The Killers's Battle Born, fuck that was awful.
but I discovered Death Grips and Matthew Dear delivered the goods again, so that made up for it.

Just noticed that, heh. I recently found out that there was a new Keith Jarrett album out, a live album from 1979 so I suppose it doesn't count.

BATS - The Sleep of Reason
This is a crazy good album. I don't think I've ever thought of "heavy" and "catchy" and "mathy" when thinking about something before this album. BATS have made possibly one of the most fun albums of the year and have done it with great technical skill. This is a very scientific album lyrically. Lots to do with stem-cells, scientific process and human scale. It's fascinating nerdy shit that is brought on with a post-hardcore edge. Check this album out, there's something in it for everyone.

Hop Along - Get Disowned
Hop Along - Get Disowned is like reading the diary of the creative sister in a Rural East coast family who owns quads, plays ice hockey and has annual superbowl parties that everyone seems to love but are actually quite tame. It's foresty, it's blue-grassy, it's catchy. The highlight of this album is absolutely the female singer who knows how to craft interesting and fun lyrics and stories and belt them out in a powerful wale when she needs to. Get Disowned has won my song of the year for it's track "Laments".

mewithouYou - Ten Stories
I love concept albums; especially if the concepts are alluded with strange lyrics and uncommon terminology ala albums like The Bedlam in Goliath. Not to say that other than the lyrics and the fact these two are concept albums that these two albums are similar. Ten Stories is an album about human reflection in existential circus animals told by an extremely talented band with post-hardcore influences. I feel like I might have played this album hundreds of times back when it was released. mewithoutYou also solidified it's place as one of my favorite concerts this year.

Swans - The Seer
Listening to this album took a literal journey for me. A month before its release I had decided that I was done not being familiar with Swans and took it upon myself to listen to every album of theirs in a month. The Seer felt cathartic after that quest. The Seer is really more like a texture to me, one that sounds. There's nothing like it; nothing I've experienced before. This will be one of the best albums this decade.

Ty Segall - Slaughterhouse
HOLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEE SHIIIIIIIIIIT- They could not have picked a better name for this album. When I listen to this, I recall the movement in Godspeed You! Black Emperor's LYSFLATH "Terrible canyons of static". This is one of the noisiest and [insane]ly fucking rocking albums I've ever heard. Such energy! Such garage! It's being lowered into a well of static while an insane man and his insane man band yell and grind their guitar strings on the well walls. Fuck, man... this album.

Death Grips - The Money Store
This was a real surprise for me after Exmilitary. They sound hardly alike and are such different creatures but I can see the progression clearly. I never thought I'd say Death Grips was dancey or poppy but this albums proves it and it's just as hardcore as Exmilitary was. Some of the best songs of the year are on here, 'I've Seen Footage', 'Hacker' and almost half this album. The Money Store is a brutal pop banger. I'll probably be disagreed with but this reminds me of The Velvet Underground in spirit.
[nedia]http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DigtCrO77L8
Linear Downfall, Spaceface, Stardeath & New Fumes with The Flaming Lips - Playing Hide and Seek With the Ghosts of Dawn
I doubt this has many fans, and I can tell why it wouldn't quite easily. This is a radical deconstruction of In the Court of Crimson King by a bunch of half-good bands being produced by The Flaming Lips. It sounds disastrous, however I think the result was one of the coolest and most interesting albums of the year. If you at all like noise-rock, The Flaming Lips album Embryonic or are at all interested in different interpretations of albums you should probably check this thing out for the spectacle of it.

Animal Collective - Centipede Hz
When I was making this I was thinking of the albums that really stuck with me, and despite opinions I've developed or critiques I could say now that I wouldn't at the time of it's release, Centipede Hz is too fun for me to not acknowledge. A lot like other Animal Collective albums, Centipede Hz was an earworm for about three months and it was all I listened to. Shit was ridiculously catchy and fun to sing along with and think about. I think it's a solid jam.

Old Man Gloom - NO
I love this album. NO is just drenched in discomfort and anger but it's like all trapped in a haunted house and it's spooky as fuck, oh god look out. Highly atmospheric and heavy as fuck. Bad ass shit right here.

The Mars Volta - Noctourniquet
THEY'VE STOLEN ALL MY LOOOOOVE, BURIED IN ABSENTIA~~~ The Mars Volta strikes that strange unintelligible scifi writer cord I have. Noctourniquet was a step in the right direction for TMV. A good balance between the prog and pop that made for some really accessible awesome shit. Unlike a lot of TMV albums, this thing is heavy on the synth and it really benefits the album with some cool soundscapes and catchy melodies. Cedric's really stepped up with some interesting and cohesive lyrics that you still don't understand but you can at least tell go along from song to song. Omar's playing is in the background which makes me curious, is this a good thing? It seems to be.

Holograms - Holograms
Not a whole lot to this album. It's just a great post-punk album with some good synth. They're Swedish too! Check 'em out!

Trust - TRST
Space-Goth lives. This is the best synth-pop album this year. Really dancey and catchy but it's all very dark and dramatic. Reminds me a lot of The Cure if they were a purely synth based dance band.

wooh!
Props for listening to OMG
NO's a rad album. Is there other stuff like that?
NO's a rad album. Is there other stuff like that?
No idea :v:
OMG is really unique.
so.. 2013 releases?
make a new thread it would be weird
nah I still have quite a lot from 2012 I missed tbh
Best year for music/movie in quite a while.
2013 just looks less intriguing in terms of what to look forward to.
Was that Big Boi album any good?
Now now... We can look forwards to (the ones I know of) the new albums by The Fall of Every Season, Omnium Gatherum, Dreamshade, Summoning (!!!), and the first album by Acacia (formerly known as Livsnekad and now with a much doomier touch)!
