Why don't the US have an NHS?, it makes sense for every other country to take care of the well being of their citizens, but over in the US it costs an arm and a leg to heal an arm and a leg
Because the second any socialized healthcare system begins in the U.S., we will all spontaneously start speaking Russian, wearing ushankas, and drinking vodka for every meal. Then, a few seconds later, the whole free world will collapse and we will begin a new thousand-year reign of Stalin.
Rush Limbaugh told of this prophecy! We must heed now while we still can!
Schools have a waiver for everything. Ever gone on a field trip? Waiver. Ever signed up for a club or sport? Waiver (and drug tests). Go to school? Waiver.
Sort of makes sense when you realize most schools are barely hanging on due to budget cuts now.
Yeah I know it's pretty ridiculous.
It's just when I was in high school, our star tight end tore is ACL on a shoddy pass and the school paid for his surgery AND rehab.
I would go to the hospital and just don't pay the bill, tons of people do it. Does not mean it is right, but it is better then being sick or even losing all function in your arm. Even if you have to go back again they can't refuse to treat you.
No, but, if I understand my own nation's laws, you can be arrested eventually.
There is no perfect healthcare system, and nothing is free, so quit whining crybaby.
My parents just informed me I'll be seeing a doctor tomorrow at 8:00am, fuck this is going to cost a lot of money.
Just get imprisoned, they have better health care than us on the outside do.
I'm not sure, but I think that the NHS here tries to bill your insurance company if you travel from another country to here for medical care. They won't turn anyone down, but it can take quite some time if it's not immediately life threatening. The NHS is amazing if you've just been shot, stabbed, in a fire, hit by a car or something major, but it has issues when there's no emergency.
You just scream in pain as loud as you can.
No really this is how you get seen quickly.
Go to the free clinic. You'll be there all day, be surrounded with people who are on the brink of death and the dregs of society but you'll eventually get care and it won't cost much, if anything.
My now wife was working two part-time jobs (no insurance) and had a knee injury. We had to go to the charity hospital for her to be treated. No cost to her at all. It may not be the pinnacle of orthopedics, but it'll be better than nothing.
Obama tried, doesn't count for much.
Then as soon as one of the 1923812 Republicans that are running for president most likely gets elected, they will probably completely abolish any thought of free health care, until it becomes a problem for them. The thing in America is that a lot of Politicians are greasy celebrities, they only get shit done if it's a problem for their reputation. It's silly.
In Sweden, pretty much everything is free for everyone. However, we pay a lot of taxes (~35-55% depending on income).
THIS. FUCKING THIS. I HATE how EVERY time I get into an argument with someone who is against universal healthcare and other social services, they ALWAYS highball the shit out of it and say something like "70%"! That's fucking absurd, it'd never be that high, and if it was I would expect whatever country was taxing that to be a fucking Utopia!
Only problem with our Medicare is that for hospital treatment, the person claiming Medicare still needs to pay a portion (although it is small) of the costs. It's still a very good system though, but would be much nicer if all healthcare was free.
That's no different than Insurance as I understand it.
Even though I had Insurance when I had my wisdom teeth removed, my parents were still charged $300.
After reading this I think I'll walk over to the hospital and just get checked out. :canada:

The big different is that you can't be refused for whatever reason, and you don't have to pay if you earn around 30k a year.
I tell my parents what happened and they would take me to the hospital but they simply can't pay for it. I'm pretty sure I tore my rotator cuff but I can't do jack shit about it because blue cross doesn't "cover" anything the hospital does around here. Meaning my parents would have probably close to a $5,000 bill for an MRI, X-Ray, I'd probably need physical therapy, and god fucking forbid I need surgery that would be probably another $5,000 on top of it all.
So basically I'm fucked, I really wish that America had universal health care because this isn't the first time these things have happened. I've broken multiple fingers, I've been sick as a fucking dog and all I get to treat it with is some anti-biotics we saved from the last visit. fuck.
In various parts of the country, illegal aliens get free health care which covers all of that. Fucking bullshit.
Become Norwegian, get free health care and your father will get a job.
Where can I start this process?!
illegal aliens get free health care which covers all of that
what a load of shit.
What healthcare system.

Healthcare system? There's a system?
1. Move to Canada

Avoid quebec, overpriced stuff and tax. Also corrupted.
What healthcare system? Healthcare is defined by the individual unless you're a part of government sponsored program like medicare. It's not the US's fault that you don't have decent medical insurance, it's your own. It's no one's job to hold your hand and ensure you're okay, millions of Americans suffer just as much as you do. You took the risk of playing football without usable medical coverage, and now you're paying the consequences. It's shitty, but that's life.
Am I the only one who finds it ironic how people bitch constantly about the government's involvement in their day to day activities, and yet the second something truly bad happens to them it's the government's fault for not getting involved?
Drive the hour and a half and see a doctor that's covered by your insurance, I honestly don't see the big deal.
Getting your care in the US:
Travel cost: 30usd
Healthcare cost: 4-6000usd
Total: 4-6030
Getting your care in europe:
Travel cost: 1400usd
Healthcare cost: 0usd
Total: 1400

I don't get it?
If you spent $1,400 in travel costs in Europe, you'd be in Asia.

Quebec's healthcare covers more than the rest of the provinces
Better social services of all types actually

I think he is saying fly to Europe from the US
$5k for mri and xray
talk about being scammed by doctors
At least you don't live in Canada. (I'm not, if that's what you were assuming)
All you have to do is declare bankruptcy. I had to have a $50,000 operation as a baby or I'd have died, my mom just declared bankruptcy and the hospital paid for it all.
If you flee to Europe, be sure to go to Germany, because everyone is in a financial crisis. Also, there is no such thing as free healthcare. Someone is paying for it. Just because that person isn't you doesn't make it's free.
