What healthcare system? Healthcare is defined by the individual unless you're a part of government sponsored program like medicare. It's not the US's fault that you don't have decent medical insurance, it's your own. It's no one's job to hold your hand and ensure you're okay, millions of Americans suffer just as much as you do. You took the risk of playing football without usable medical coverage, and now you're paying the consequences. It's shitty, but that's life.
Am I the only one who finds it ironic how people bitch constantly about the government's involvement in their day to day activities, and yet the second something truly bad happens to them it's the government's fault for not getting involved?
Drive the hour and a half and see a doctor that's covered by your insurance, I honestly don't see the big deal.
You make it sound as though accidents are planned. Some people simply can't afford insurance companies extortionate prices. Simply by living, you put yourself at risk of an accident and can ruin your life in debt because of one football practice, or fatal car crash.
And just because millions of others suffer the same problem, it makes it right for you or anyone to be in the situation in the first place?

I never said that accidents are planned, I merely pointed out that by playing football he's putting himself more at risk for injury than the average individual. And I also never said that the situation was right; I agreed that it was shitty, but there's nothing that can be done about it. Those with insurance receive healthcare, those that don't, don't. That's the way things are, and unfortunately that's probably how it's going to stay.

Not in like, 90% of the developed world.
We all put in money so people who have unfortunate accidents aren't financially ruined, because we recognize that it is possible for us to be in that situation.
It's very 'veil-of-ignorance'.

But that sparks a debate; is it fair for the government to use your money to help people, when you yourself don't need to take advantage of that aid? The people without money and insurance would say yes, and the people with money would say no. There's no real right or wrong here, it's pretty much fend for yourself. The only reason the US doesn't have a centralized healthcare system is because the rich think it's ridiculous, and the rich make the decisions.
Every time see a story from an American, they're either jobless or holding on to their shit job for dear life.
You guys really seem to be having a hard time.
Anyway, that shit sucks, hope you get better fast.

Actually, how in the fuck is that system still there, it's obvious it's worse than a more social one.

Except your country seems anomalous as generally people with enough money to afford health care in other states say yes.
Even though people complain about the NHS in the UK, when you realise how fucked up other countries healthcare "systems" are, makes you realise how lucky we are.
On a side note, the UK is probably one of the few countries where you get paid NOT to work.

See, that's why you're not covered. You got sick.
Seriously though, do get better.
[sp]We're supposed to have the Universal Healthcare...I think[/sp]

Again, the rich make the decisions, not the people. It's the way the system works, I don't believe it's a good system but it is what it is. And what's this about "affording" healthcare? Unless you're working retail, most employers offer benefits. I'm fully covered under my company's insurance as well as my parent's until I turn 24.
Hell ya it has, I mean when I traveled to LA the medical hospitals was way worse from back home.
I hope they improve it in the future, good health is allways a big step for the social network and public order.

And that's besides the point. It shouldn't matter if you work at McDonalds or are a CEO. Everyone should have the right to accessible healthcare. You shouldn't be fucked over financially just because you had an accident.
Become Norwegian, get free health care and your father will get a job.
Are non-citizens covered?
If I remember correctly citizenship can take 7-10 years.
Why are the police and fire services in the U.S free but healthcare isn't?
Because the U.S would rather spend hundreds of billions of dollars on their millitary just to secure their position as a global superpower and police the world.
Fucking republicans and bush.
"oh but we need to defend ourselves from the terrorists"
All of that bullshit started after 9/11 and it was used as an excuse by the bush administration to go invade Iraq and start this stupid afghan war. IMO those dumb republicans and their dumb values are why the U.S is 14 trillion dollars in debt. Spending trillions on their military when they could have spent it on growing their economy and heath care.

Australia differs in that most people buy private health insurance after a certain income level.
It's not essential for businesses to provide health insurance to their workers like in America, as everyone is already covered publicly.

Takes 4 years for Australian and it's easy for US citizens to get a permanent visa because of our free trade agreement.

The US actually spends the most money per person on health, in the entire world.

I know, my point is that the problem isn't how much America spends, but how it's being spent.
You can't blame the massive military spending for the problems with the health system.

You're definitely accurate there, I completely agree. Unfortunately, the public plays very little role in budget crunching.
Yes you can, the more money wasted on the military, is less money spent on things that can actually help people.
Except other countries spend less on health care and get better results.
If the US spent its military budget on nation-building projects, whoa.

ACTUALLY IMMIGRATING IS HARD AS SHIT. In countries like Australia and in European countries you pretty much have to prove you have skills that are needed. And if you have skills that are abundant you have to prove you are better at doing it than literally EVERYONE in the country.
It was a lot easier to become a resident in a foreign country, but now actually becoming a permanent resident is hard as bricks.
Also, American health insurance sucks and those idiots that voted against the universal healthcare Obama suggested deserve to die.
if you are from some 3rd world shithole, you can run to europe and scream "ASYLUMMM"
then you can enjoy living in europe for at least a few solid years until you get deported when they have finished shuffling papers, and if you manage to get married / get a baby you can then stay due to family relationships
that's at least one way.

no it's not most developed countries have welfare systems.
stop reading the daily express.

Becoming a permanent resident isn't terribly difficult in Sweden from what I've heard, and after that becoming a citizen is just a matter of living in the country for a few years without committing any crimes, or not paying your taxes.
Reading this thread is depressing to me.
My dad earns roughly 2000 euro a month minus taxes and shit.
That's pretty avarage probably. It's not much.
And yet we have the best healthcare package available for the 4 of us so that we only have to worry about the ambulance costs.
I think it's 140 euro a month. (140*4=560?) (you don't pay healthcare bills, it's taken off the paycheck automaticly.)
If i have an itch on my butt, i can see a doctor.
If i have an itch, cancer, a fake hip, 2 broken legs, 1 hand cut off, am 70 years old, asperges and what now, i will be helped for free. Unless i am requesting experimental treatment.
I am not trying to brag, i consider my household pretty poor. We don't have money for anything extra.
Which leads me to believe US economy has been very shit for very long if they can't afford a couple hudred a month for healthcare.
Don't be stupid, bluesky. America's medical system is the best in the world! It's not like you want to have some terrible, terrible socialist medical system, right? You're not a fucking communist are you?! You know that none of that socialist, communist red bullshit works, right? You'll be stuck on a waiting list for the rest of your life if you change your system to be like the UK. I'd know, because I'm definitely more intelligent and knowledgeable than the entirety of the World Health Organisation who every year consistently rate the UK's medical system to be better than the US's!
I don't really consider health care a joke. Well America's is anyway.
That made me sad :(
but like, i feel like socialist healthcare would be fucking awesome to have, but I feel like it would also have a bunch of people just thrown onto waiting lists. Don't take anything I just said too seriously because I don't really know what i'm talking about, just saying how I feel about it.
I don't mind waiting lists, at least our health care doesn't suck a bunch and then some. In the Netherlands you're required to have an insurance that covers hospital visits, and that's just the minimal insurance anyway.
This is why you should stop moaning about free healthcare, America.

I wish I could tell France's health care is awesome and shit but seeing how we can hardly keep it up correctly because of funding problems...
Lol.
Still thinks there IS a healthcare system in the USA :p
I would agree with you guys about the healthcare, but with 50% of the nation not paying any sort of tax, the next issue becomes the other 50% paying for everything...
The 50% of of those who don't pay tax, have almost nothing to be taxed on.
