Just returned from the movies It was pretty awesome overall, but it felt pretty short Also, [sp]I don't get it how did that thing from the Thor's dimension appeared on Earth[/sp] [editline]23rd August 2011[/editline] Also Tony Stark is Howards Stark's son, right? And Howard Stark was around 20-30, when Captain dissapeared. So In 70 years after Captains "Death" Tony is something around 20-30 too. How?
Very good. Someone has went through the trouble to figure it out. [quote=rsreed13]To start, let's say that Tony Stark is RDJ's age (Born in 1965). Let's say Howard is 35 (Dominic Cooper is 33 in real life, so this would be going above the actor's age) during the war. So Howard is 35 in 1942. That makes him 58 in 1965 when Tony is born. That may seem old, but Jon Travolta (57) just had a kid last year, and both Captain America and Iron Man 2 point to Howard being consumed by his work. For the record, this makes Howard 67 in the 1974 expo footage. There is no reason to believe Maria (Tony's mother) is as old as Howard. That would be an issue. Now let's make Howard a genius stud like his son. Let's say he's 25 in 1942. That makes him 48 in 1965 and about 57 in the 1974 expo footage. Completely reasonable. "Now wait", you say. "In the Iron Man film you can see that 1991 is the date for Howard's death and Robert Downey Jr isn't 21 yet." This is true. But watch that montage again. Immediately after that 1991 date, pause the screen with the pic of Howard and Obadiah. Look to the left (their right). See that 1997 date. So we can pretty much ignore any date in Iron Man's opening montage because they don't follow their own continuity. On another note, if you take the Iron Man montage as canon, you have an issue in Iron Man 2. See that Stark 74 expo footage. Look at that kid. How old is he? If Stark is too young to take over Howard's business in December of 1991 (the exact date of the paper is December 17th, 1991), and he does take it over at age 21, that would mean he was born after 1970. Which means that kid in Iron Man 2 should be at most 3. The easy way to correct this issue? Ignore the 1991 date. That the shot that immediately follows it has a date which contradicts it should be enough evidence that it isn't meant to be taken as canon. EDIT: To continue this issue, let's look at the possibility that the date of Howard's death is correct. Tony Stark takes over his father's company when he is 21, so he has to be younger than that at the date of Howard's death. Tony's birthday is the summer, so at the oldest, Stark turns 21 in the summer of 1992. For each year, I present two ages Stark could be (with the younger age being if they shot the footage before Tony's birthday, and the older age if they shot it afterwards). If Stark turns 21 in 1992, he was born in 1971, which would mean he was 2/3 in the Stark Expo footage. If Stark turned 20 in 1992, he was born in 1972, and was 1/2. If Stark turned 19 in 1992, he was born in 1973 and was 0/1. If Stark turned 18 in 1992, he was born in 1974 and that kid ain't Tony. This is why, in my timeline, I use RDJ's birthyear of 1965. Which makes that kid around 8/9 (depending on what time of the year the footage was shot) in 1974. SECOND EDIT: I apologize if I'm speaking in absolutes in the above passage regarding Tony's birthyear. I want to reiterate that a birth in 1971 is possible, but I personally don't agree with it, and I don't think the evidence supports it. That isn't to discredit anyone else's opinion, however, and I don't mean to come off as a know-it-all ass in the above. THIRD EDIT: So new evidence and reasoning provided by andrewnorfolk has led to the conclusion that Stark must be born in either 1970 or 1971 (it has to be 1971 if you want to keep the 1991 d.o.d. for Howard). When Stark maps the new element he refers to his dad as "dead for almost twenty years." This matters because, for all intents and purposes, Iron Man 2 takes place in 2010. The Historic Grand Prix of Monaco is run every other year, and in both 2008 and 2012, it will be held after Stark's birthday (May 10, according to the novelizations) rather than before as it was in Iron Man 2 and in 2010. This means that Howard Stark could not have died before May of 1990, which means for Stark to turn 21 after his death, he'd have to have been born in either 1970 or 1971. Now, granted, you could just argue that the Monaco Grand Prix is held at different dates in the MCU than it is in the real world, or that Stark's birthday isn't May 10th, but that seems a bit pointless. thats is a lot of work for something as minor as his age.
The only reason I plan on watching Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America is to follow this film. My god Marvel. Great marketing [editline]24th August 2011[/editline] [QUOTE=Tuskin;31910418]thats is a lot of work for something as minor as his age.[/QUOTE] Agreed. I never base a characters age on the actors age. An actor may be 40 odd but hired because the look 30-ish. They might age well. Have surgery. Or just actually be young. Unless stated on screen a characters age shouldn't be worked out.

The standard edition cover looks far better than the 'limited 3D editon' one.
Was anyone surprised when the Hydra agent got shredded up by the plane rotor at the final fight scene?

another film for americans to pat themselves on the back this was a B grade action flick at best it just felt so wrong
Overall I enjoyed this movie. Just a few things I found a little unexpected. Of the two hours of movie, there was really only about half an hour of action. Not that that is completely a bad thing. I just expected a little more. Secondly, Captain America wasn't really all that powerful. He could kick a few guys asses, but that's about it. Compared to Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor, he's going to have a pretty tough time keeping up.
