Why not kill them and then send them to the past?
I think this movie can be good if it doesn't take itself to seriously.
Maybe they're not able to send inanimate objects through time? And then, there could still be evidence of a murder, just no body.
Edit: I suppose that wouldn't make sense as the people still have their clothes.
Is it gold blocks on his back?

That must be payment. I cant imagine futurebucks would be worth alot in his time.

So I guess the victims come back with the payment strapped to their back, as incentive for the looper to actually kill them. And I guess since Bruce Willis was a looper, he knew to turn around and take the shot in the gold. But what did he throw at joseph Gordon levitt?
One of the bricks
I'm guessing that to semi-explain/bypass the paradox , they will say this is the first time that Joe comes back. Unless they explain that this does infact end in a loop and (my guess in SP tags just in case its true) [sp]the film ends where it started with an old Joe getting send back to young Joe and the cycle repeats[/sp].
So can they not send them forwards in time? That would make a lot more sense.

What if there's future police? If the future is more advanced they would probably trace it back, and besides that they'd be better equipped to wipe them out.

Aslong as they sent it far enough it would be too late for the future police to do anything. I just think sending evidence back in time is stupid, it would just create a huge number of unsolved cases with 30 years for the police to work it out. Also, if they are good enough at hiding it to make sure it isn't found for over 30 years what is the point in sending it back in the first place.

Unless the men of the future are super-buff, that was probably also used to weigh down the victims, making sure they don't escape.
One brick of gold is roughly 65 pounds, after all.
those bricks are smaller than a standard ingot but still fuck heavy.
but you're right, the fact that they have this immense weight on their backs means they probably can't even stand up.
except for bruce willis because he was a looper himself and is probably super buff.
looking really good, can't wait to see it
one question though, isn't Willis in kind of a futile situation here? I mean, he can't exactly shoot back, or he'd probably pop out of existence
maybe the mob sent him back to be assassinated for failing to assassinate himself?
so many questions and I can't wait to have them answered

That's what I'm guessing too, but I'm hoping that isn't the case. I'll trust that they'll put a different spin on things though.
Saw the trailer the first time on my iPhone, thought "Looks okay, nothing too special"
Just watched the trailer again, and holy hell that was amazing.

So... do they send the loopers back in time to get ready to do the work?
If so... how do they get the technology and know where the drop off is going to be...
...and would that mean that Bruce Willis would be that age at the time they would have sent Joseph Gordon Levitt back in time meaning he would have seen himself?

They don't send the loopers back in time. Presumably the loopers only know about time travel because the mob sent back a message or something. I think that no one who knows how time travel works can be sent back in time and tell anyone about it without a paradox happening. Also, this is supposed to be the first time in the "loop" that bruce is sent back.
well it's pretty clear there isn't a way to send yourself forward cause you'd need to be in the future.
i bet he was sent back but then grew old and the old version is the one they sent to him to kill.
i bet he was sent back but then grew old and the old version is the one they sent to him to kill.
...Or he got older and the version of him that was naturally that old in the future got sent back? Why would he get sent back twice, that makes no sense.
no i mean the mob sends his young self back in time
like to begin with, as in he's all young in our present but he's from the future. it actually makes a bit of sense cause it would be a lot easier to train agents then send them back than do a talent search.
might be wrong. the thing that bugs me is how loopers would come into contact with the future if it's so impersonal.
[editline]16th April 2012[/editline]
also sending someone back to be a looper would be better in terms of paradoxes, because if they recruit people from the present they may change something by recruiting them. and for a number of other reasons

Those are some unusually large bricks then.
This really bothers me:

I'll probably still go watch it because it looks like it will be really good nonetheless, but man am I'm going to be very aware of the subtle Chinese propaganda all throughout the movie.

wtf
It would be very interesting for a futuristic movie to take place in China, but please no "Mao is the boss" bullshit.
I love JGL films i will be looking forward to this one
I have nothing against a futuristic world where China has large influence over the United States. It's kind of a refreshing concept. Even when some sort of Chinese firm requires the directors to put this in the movie. But it gets bad when they take this China-backed concept so far the American-characters start admiring the fact a mass-murderer is printed on their money. It would take away the credibility of the said characters and the movie.

OH MY GOD GOOSEBUMPS... How the hell did I miss this?! So fucking good, oh god.
Every soundtrack Nathan has made is just downright incredible. Brick was a masterpiece, and The Borthers Bloom soundtrack was beautiful.
I'm really wondering how they are going to handle the time paradoxes. So mob finds out some guy is a rat, they send a hitman back in time. Now that the rat is dead, mob isn't going to be in danger and won't have to send the hitman back in time again. If these hitmen are then supposed to come back from the past they have to be ready the boss won't remember sending them away. Don't tell me the assassinated person just magically vanishes and the hitman just gets paid once he returns.
No the rat is sent back in time, where a hitman is waiting to kill him, after hes dead the hitman then retreives the payment which is tied to the rat (which we see Willis use to his advantage in his escape)
Is it really that that hard of a concept to grasp?
