It's actually a really good anime. Focuses purely on story and character development, dosen't rely on fanservice to keep the watcher's attention. Oh, and the soundtrack is fecking amazing.
-Also this abridged video was funny as fuck.
The character development is the worst part of the show though, they're all exactly 1 dimensional and perfect tropes. You have Eren, the overly confident but under-skilled main character that makes up for his failings with sheer gusto. Then you have Armin, the super smart but shy/unconfident one. Then Mikasa, the stoic god-tier character that is immediately good at everything (which the show explains by telling you she's asian). Potato girl likes food and that's her entire character. It just goes on like that.

It then kinda deconstructs each thing. Eren's so hotblooded that he sees things in black and white, but the world isn't so simple. Armin is smart, but as things progress he begins to think the ends justify the means so long as a plan is successful, while Mikasa is skilled but is so one-track-mindedly focused on protecting Eren that she goes batshit if anything even happens to him at all. And pretty much everyone in this series gets traumatized beyond all shit without going to Evangelion levels of crazy.
[sp]And Eren being revealed as a Titan Shifter promptly throws the generic character archetypes into a gigantic blender of intrigue that only gets more complex as things go along.[/sp]
Not to mention Levi aka Mr Stoic Badass McVegeta Dreamy-eyes Extreme who, in an anime where everyone is fairly realistic in that nobody is a flying super ninja killing machine, is in fact, a flying super ninja killing machine.
i loved the anime. I dont really watch any, but the twists on this one, mostly at the beginning, were so well done it actually surprised me, in a great way.

His special attack is a fucking spindash.

Believe it or not, prodigies also exist in real life!

read the mango and you'll think otherwise
the anime does none of the side characters any justice at all

They also made Eren way more angry than in the manga.
I loved every second of it. TFS never falls short in the humor department and their quality is amazing compared to what it was when they started.

I have
Kinda unrelated but after watching the anime, then reading the manga after the anime drops off, I read the beginning of the manga and am really fucking curious. No spoilers, but it's like, Eren wakes up from a "very long dream", immediately remarks on how Mikasa's hair is longer and wakes up crying. The fuck is GOING ON IN THIS WORLD AAAAAAGH
So yeah for those curious the series is worth the watch. Typical story about kid who vows revenge for the death of his family member and his supporting friends basically is thrown out the window and smashed into a whirlpool of chaos and awesome about 5-6 episodes in (ie about the time the first TFS Abridged episode ends).
WATCH IT
HOLY SHEEEEEEET
GOD YOU FUCKING SUCK.
AoT is the first anime I've enjoyed in a long long long time, although the first bunch of episodes involves a lot of crying, flashbacks, dying, flashbacks while crying, crying about dying and crying about flashbacks.
[unpopular opinion]
I wish I could say this but from watching the first 10 episodes there's just so much filler.
And it suffers from generic-anime-acting syndrome in the sense that people yell uncontrollably in times where there's no need to yell. Or at least not that loudly. Or just overacting in general. I just want that fucker to get to the basement already but nope. Not even when [sp]when he has the ability to transform into a goddamn titan himself[/sp] does he take the opportunity. Last time I checked the manga was even further ahead and they haven't reached the fucking basement there either.
I mean yeah it has some good moments, like the unedited version of the ending in TFS video is pretty damn dramatic and awesome, but overall...
Just... yawn.

Not an unpopular opinion, rather an uninformed one.

[sp]God helps us... oh hey God![/sp]
I should probably watch the actual show. I was very impressed with the art design and animation.
Too bad like 3/4ths of the episodes are outsourced and have really shitty animation
Too bad like 3/4ths of the episodes are outsourced and have really shitty animation
nah it isn't shit all the time, it's pretty inconsistent though, 17 & 18 were the highlights in terms of animation
filler is much more of an issue in this adaptation
[unpopular opinion]
Well to be fair, [sp]the basement is miles and miles away in titan infested territory. Even as a titan himself he got pretty much wrecked when 3 or 4 of them ganged up on him.[/sp] But yeah, for the most part, it does suffer from a lot of things which put me off anime. Taking several episodes for barely anything to happen, unnecessarily long inner monologues, all that jazz. But the setting is interesting enough to make me want to keep going and see what happens next.
This is definitely an Abridged that is better when you've seen the actual episodes, compared to DBZ where you just need a vague idea of what's going on.
If I hadn't seen AoT beforehand I don't think I'd have found it as funny.
I lost it at the "Ting ting"
*tink* *tink*
fookin hell i coughed up a few kidneys

shit probably should have read the second page

I dunno, some of the anime only bits did actually flesh out some characters. Of course I still totally recommend the mango, plus it goes further in the story than the show does.
AoT is a fine show but it's ridiculously overrated. I can't seem to go anywhere without hearing it getting obscene amount of praises. People blew up about this more than they blew up about Gurren Lagann. Except Gurren Lagann kind of deserved it.

I think it's because it's more accessible than a lot of animes. The plot is mostly straight forward and the characters are likable enough (even if Eren tends to over rage). Plus no fan service shit which I particularly liked about it.

Also, its very predictable.
Also, its very predictable.
I think the anime made some foreshadowing a bit less subtle compared to the manga, but not sure.
why did no one tell me animes was this cool
[editline]14th November 2013[/editline]
or is the original less cooler?
The anime is good but it's really deceptive because just like the walking dead it has a premise that should bring a ton of action in but it's actually more about drama than random action.
Oh jeez this was the first thing in MONTHS that caused me to actually burst out laughing uncontrollably several times. :v:
Made me laugh my ass off a couple times. Amazing.
After watching this I went ahead and downloaded all of Season 1 and binge watched the whole thing. I can definitely say i'm hooked. I was, and am, thoroughly disappointed there isn't more of it yet. Also, a lot of it seems more funny now.
