Another reason to drive a manual. :smug: http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/western-australia/dumb-and-dumber-botch-bayswater-car-jacking/story-e6frg13u-1225793270205
Not to mention, when you're blasting down some lonely road, it's fucking boring in a god damn automatic. [editline]10:40PM[/editline]
It's all about "feeling" the clutch In short: easy but damn boring to drive.
Also this. :respek: [editline]10:41PM[/editline]
Something tells me your sole experience with a stick was with an inexperienced driver that didn't know what they were doing. Most people who think manuals are annoying and just 'more shit to fuck with in the car' are that way. Either that or they're just lazy. I probably wouldn't dislike them so much if they weren't so indecisive. Every automatic I've ever driven can't make up it's damn mind, I always find myself telling it to "Pick a goddamn gear and stop shifting". It's real annoying when you need to apply, say, 1/2 throttle in overdrive to climb a hill and the transmission thinks it needs to kick down into second gear and rev the nuts off a 20 year old engine while giving everyone inside whiplash. Then, when you actually do need to get it to kick down, you have to do it by moving the shift lever to 1 because the dumbass ECU doesn't see a need to kick down. Happens to me all the time, and there's nothing I can really do about it except cuss and bury the throttle. This, IMO, is far more annoying than having to shift 1-2 2-1 1-2 2-1 at every light.
This too. :respek:
Learn Manual. It's much more fun and cheaper to get a stick shift. Also, yes, the car gods would be disappointed in you..
It's looking like I'm gonna learn manual first anyways. I just hope I don't turn into my brother and just develop some sort of arbitrary hatred for automatic. you're doing it wrong
you're doing it wrong
There's still a empty stop from the missing U
I honestly don't see the point of getting a manual unless you actually plan on doing some sort of "racing" be it on the street, autocrosses, or track days.
I honestly don't see the point of getting a manual unless you actually plan on doing some sort of "racing" be it on the street, autocrosses, or track days.
Control. Just because i want a Daily Driver, doesn't mean i want a BORING Daily Driver.
Wow holy shit I just went pulling handbrake turns in the snow. It's so much fun, you can even countersteer and get angle on the car and make it settle again! Feels like drifting
4 Reasons to Buy a Manual 1. They're more fun to drive and make you look more badass 2. Better fuel economy than it's automatic counterpart 3. Cheaper than it's automatic counterpart 4. Did I mention you look badass in it? :smug:
I live in my car because I'm so obsessed with them.
Tried that. impractical with a medium sized sedan. Shouldn't have sold my old VW transporter.
Seriously, get out. I saw you created a paintball thread. Paintballing is just as legit a hobby as cars. Or do you play with your paintballpals because you're too dumb to become a real soldier? No, I don't think so. We don't talk about cars because we can never afford them or see them in real life. As a matter of fact, I know that alot of the posters in this thread is pretty much into the car world. I am very much into the car world, and I get to see, drive and ride alot of the cars that I talk about and post pics of. And even if someone that's not as fortunate as others to see/drive/ride nice cars, why shouldn't they post in here? They could be equally as interested in cars. It's a fucking hobby, and for many people a lifestyle. I know it sounds cheesy, but it really is. So just get your ass out of here if you're just gonna be trolling.
lol the paintballing thread was a joke but im glad you took the time to look through my post history
Something tells me your sole experience with a stick was with an inexperienced driver that didn't know what they were doing. Most people who think manuals are annoying and just 'more shit to fuck with in the car' are that way. Either that or they're just lazy. I drive both regularly, I can see the pros and cons of both. Honestly, it's not a big deal to drive a stick in the city. I don't even notice when I make a shift, my body already knows what to do and when to do it, does it 100% autonomously. I probably wouldn't dislike them so much if they weren't so indecisive. Every automatic I've ever driven can't make up it's damn mind, I always find myself telling it to "Pick a goddamn gear and stop shifting". By the way, the automatic I drive regularly is a 1994 Chrysler Town and Country with a 3.8 V6 and 4-speed electronic overdrive automatic. I drive it more than I do my stickshift F150 these days, as it actually seats four people comfortably. [editline]08:37AM[/editline] You'll be fine as long as you don't get closed minded about driving either one. Also, changed avatar. I haven't watched that show in two years, I've just been far too lazy to change the avatar.
I drove a stick shift car for a while actually when I was younger. It was a LADA something, hardcore car. It's probably not fair that I hate stick shifts just because of the LADA. Here's the thing, though. I don't dislike manuals. I do dislike the third pedal and the stick. Cars that have auto-stick or flappy paddles are fine for me.
Cars that have auto-stick or flappy paddles are fine for me.
The bastard kids from the short relationship between Manual and Automatic.
So, are any of you guys into SAAB? Sadly they might die out very soon.

Nobody better be hating on Manuals, i'm pretty sure any manual driver is a 10x better driver than an Auto driver. Also, automatics sometimes have horrible clunky gearchanges, jerkiness and are generally slower to shift and are heavier because of their huge gearbox. All in all, Manual ftw.
Worth the fine in my opinion. :v: Also, Manual Drivers
Lada's = fuckwin Only the basic stuff to keep it rolling and no more. :c00l:
The one I drove didn't even have power steering. :v: It was one of these: [editline]12:49AM[/editline] It's really quite interesting how we thought of Ladas as powerful and respectable in Egypt. If you drive this around in Canada/America, you'd probably look like a tool.

Cars that have auto-stick or flappy paddles are fine for me.
TBH that is the worst reason to not like manuals. I mean, the third pedal is not at all intrusive in my experience, and you still get a stick on autos (or something similar) to switch between Neutral, reverse drive etc. Furthermore, flappy paddles are in no way acceptable, it's essentially still an automatic, or semi auto even; the gear changes are even worse in some cases, (watch Top Gear and you'll see why they hate them, you can physically see cars jerk about when they shift). Manual is the only way to go if you actually like driving. If you just drive passively, go for an auto. This is my opinion though, i just find that an automatic removes the whole interactivity of driving for me. Yeah, i'm going somewhere but it doesn't feel the same.
Speaking of manuals, these are pretty fun. 370z SynchroRev Match. If the guy wants to drive an auto though let him, there isn't a huge advantage to either side, it's all preference.
