Only thing creepy about Amon was that the concept of taking someone's bending away was like raping someone.
And that's scary to me. It's so many levels of fucked up.
Only thing creepy about Amon was that the concept of taking someone's bending away was like raping someone.
This is why Ty Lee was my most disliked character in ATLA. Sure it was crazy how powerful Azula or Ozai was, but it wasn't worse than just having your power completely taken away. I didn't actually dislike Ty Lee, just that she could so easily get to element benders and chi block them. The thing I didn't get with Amon permanently removing bending with bloodbending, is why couldn't Katara just blood bend them back to normal?
Amon was just better at it.
I guess guys are just overall better at bending things :v:
I guess guys are just overall better at bending things :v:
Or Amon was simply more talented and Katara is going senile/doesn't know it was done with bloodbending. Doesn't mean woman are completely useless. In The Last Airbender woman kicked so much ass and pretty much shat on guys. (Azula, Katara, Ty Lee, etc.)
The thing I didn't get with Amon permanently removing bending with bloodbending, is why couldn't Katara just blood bend them back to normal?
I think the way he 'removes' the bending is by destroying the chi circuitry within the body. It's like asking a person to fix a gadget that was completely destroyed and all you had was tiny pieces of it.
Was simply a joke but yeah the females dominated the original series, Most of them were born prodigies though.
So was Amon and his family.

To be honest though, I don't think the creators of the show actually thought about how it would work on a technical (or I suppose a biological) level. I wouldn't be surprised if we never got an answer for that, but I can live with that. The show's not so much about bending or how bending works, but more about how it impacts society.
I still can't get over how it's called bending. Taking a quote like:
"For centuries, benders have possessed an unnatural advantage over ordinary people. But thankfully, modern technology has provided us with a way to even out the playing field."
out of context is just so funny to me.
I still can't get over how it's called bending. Taking a quote like: out of context is just so funny to me.
The British and the Americans can be completely unaware of each other's slang and euphemisms. I'm Dutch myself, but I giggled when I first heard the term fannypack. That's because in Britain fanny means front bottom, and in America fanny means the regular bottom. If you're making something fantasy oriented and you're releasing internationally you're bound to run into that problem with some character names or location names. Bending is quite an important word though, they really should've done some superficial research before incorporating it in the dialogue so heavily.
The thing I hated about Korra was once Amon was revealed to be a bloodbender Mako was all "That must be how he avoided the lightning/fire!" What? How the fuck does bending blood give you the power to dodge fire and lightning? I mean the fucker side flipped past most attacks like it was nothing and the explination is "LOL bloodbending"? Come on. Plus the shitty romance arc which ruined Mako and Bolin's characters and made Asami into a punching bag.
The implication was that he was subtly manipulating any benders he fought to perform badly.
But every instance of bloodbending has been incredibly painful. So much so that being held in place completely drained Korra's stamina, she couldn't move when she was released. I think people would at least be like "When I faught Amon my arms felt wierd and I couldn't bend properly", not "Wow, no one in the city has any idea how he's doing it, even the people he's faught but didn't capture". I'd be willing to accept it if it wasn't revealed in such a blasé way. Like, "oh yeah, BTW he's a bloodbender so he can just do anything and whatever. More importantly HE'S TARLOK'S BROTHER!" I was just like, hold up, can we please talk about the whole Amon is a bloodbender thing for more than 5 seconds?
Amon was better when he was all mysterious and shit In fact I feel like this whole show went downhill after the first few episodes
I marathoned ATLA for the first time last week and all I've been able to do since is think about it, but I didn't want to start rewatching it in case it made it boring so I've been holding off the temptation. But it keeps on growing. It's a shame there isn't a bluray release of all three seasons, that'd be an awesome reason to rewatch it. I almost forgot to inquire about this because of how spaced out these two things are, but early in the first season of ATLA, Iroh somehow sees spirit Aang on Roku's spirit dragon, but no one else can see this. I seem to remember it getting briefly mentioned later on, possibly in another series but is it ever really explained how Iroh can see spirits?

Anyone a tad annoyed how Energy Bending is, once again, the deus ex machina of the show? :v:
Anyone a tad annoyed how Energy Bending is, once again, the deus ex machina of the show? :v:
That and blood bending. Hell, they don't even explain how blood bending somehow removes bending powers from someone.
That and blood bending. Hell, they don't even explain how blood bending somehow removes bending powers from someone.
By fuxing up the chi flow. Because Chakras.
That and blood bending. Hell, they don't even explain how blood bending somehow removes bending powers from someone.
My theory is that he blocks that certain thing in your brain that releases bending. (Or chakra blocking)
By fuxing up the chi flow. Because Chakras.
Which would have been a great plot point for the next books She meditates like Aang did with Pathik, opening up her chakras, and either gaining/relearning the elements
Which would have been a great plot point for the next books She meditates like Aang did with Pathik, opening up her chakras, and either gaining/relearning the elements
Still would probably be just a retread of the last series.
I'm really trying to think what the next 2 books for season 2 are going to be. They're not going to do water, earth and fire again I would think. I wonder what else there is to be done.

Spirit is book 2 of season 1. I doubt they'd do it again in season 2
Hey, what is going on here? Is book 2 coming out already?
No, next year.
Spirit is book 2 of season 1. I doubt they'd do it again in season 2
Aren't books the same thing as seasons? At least they were in A:TLA
