maybe Avatar: The last airbender movie was supposed to be like the play they watched in the fire nation.
Heh, I'm gonna go watch that episode now.
dunno if this has been posted, likely thought it was pretty cool for those of you that have seen Game of Thrones and incredibly well done
5 bucks says republic city will burn and Amon will see a child become an orphin in front of his eyes.
This show is really freakin good. It fixed my biggest problem with The Last Airbender. In the last airbender, the villains goal was to kill the avatar. Problem is you knew they couldn't do anything even close to that on a kids show. Fire nation troops were about as effective as team rocket and it really killed their evilness. Here, chi blockers are actually good at their job and Amon is this terrifying mix of Dr. Doom destructiveness and Magneto's decent ideals taken to a massive extreme. And they don't even need to kill anyone so it can remain a kids show. I'm lovin it at least.
Actually, they weren't trying to kill Aang, they were trying to capture him and keep him locked up (and most probably brutally beaten) as long as they could (because if the Avatar dies he just gets re-incarnated). This is why Zuko was supposed to capture the Avatar and not kill him. At the end of the episode, they're leaving the theatre and everyone in the group is going on about how bad it is, and then Sokka points out that the effects were decent. Apparently, one of the creators in the commentary said that was kind of like a shout-out to the movie
if I was planning to rip all of The Last Airbender digitally, how much space would that be?

I don't think it's that much...seasons 2&3 together are like 5gb total. I think.
Why do people not simply bend the electricity in Amon's zappy sticks?
Watched it on request of friend. Haven't seriously watched a cartoon for years. Fuckin' loved it.
Why do people not simply bend the electricity in Amon's zappy sticks?
Because true "lightningbending" doesn't exist. Lightning generation is possible when a firebender maintains peace of mind, separates his yin and yang energies, and upon bringing them back together lightning is created, and the firebender merely guides the direction of the lightning afterwards. Lightning redirection is incredibly dangerous and requires proficient control to keep the electricity away from vital organs, as the firebender only guides it through his body and away from it, never being able to fully manipulate it like the other elements. Also, Amon's lieutenant is the one with the electrified kali sticks, not Amon himself.
I just love how Toph is the only who doesn't turn her head. Nice touch.
They animated Toph really well in that regard. She never turns to look at people, she just talks in the general vicinity of people rather than at them, and never mentions any details a blind person wouldn't know about. It's actually quite hilarious after watching this to watch other shows and movies with blind people because they almost always fuck it up. Specially the movie Daredevil. That guy is constantly looking people in the eye while talking to them, casually mentions how he saw something several times throughout the movie, and can't stop turning his head to look at everything.

Wow I forgot George Takei had a small role in a TLA Episode
One of my old friends runs a costuming company that specializes in outfits from movies and television, and I'm thinking about getting a replica of Bolin's jacket/coat/thing made. However, it's difficult to find Bolin's reference sheet. Anyone know where I can get that?

Like when they were flying to Ba Sing Se (I think, I'm probably wrong) and she shouted "THERE IT IS! THERE IT IS!" And they all looked and she went "That's what it'll sound like when one of you sees it."

Blind jokes keeping it classy Nick.
if I was planning to rip all of The Last Airbender digitally, how much space would that be?
I've seen some pretty good ones. Someone was able to compress them into 6gb and the quality was pretty good too. [editline]14th May 2012[/editline]
11GB, 18GB for 720p
How do you get a A:TLA in 720p? The show only existed in 4:3
Sokka and his fister go all out fighting with that stuff later in the orig. series. and look what happened to metal bending, something that only Toph, the best earth bender ever could figure out.
If you mean Zuko and his sister Azula, they were only able to create and redirect direct lightning strikes using their own bodies' energy, they couldn't manipulate lightning like they could fire. Metalbending however is a natural extension and purification of earthbending, metalbenders don't create metal or earth within their own bodies, only manipulate sources that already exist in the world around them.
didn't one other dude know how to do it i recall someone teaching her how it was done or how it could be done, at least
Nobody taught Toph how to metalbend, she learned after observing the earthen impurities in the metal cage she was trapped in by Xin Fu and Master Yu with her seismic sense, and bent the cage apart by focusing on those fragments. Guru Pathik was the one who told Aang that metal was simply refined earth while he was instructing the avatar on opening his sixth chakra. These two events happened to be concurrent.
this?
This is one the best cartoon moments in history.

And in case you're wondering what the part around the shoes is, they seem to be old-fashioned style gaiters, similar to those worn by US soldiers (as well as other armed forces) in WWII:
Like the episode where Sokka makes the Appa posters and she says they look fine.
my favorite was when Toph and Katara were fighting and Sokka sent Toph a written note as if it was from Katara, blatantly forgetting she was blind.
