Or being that I have no training in how to take an animal out with a knife or the equipment. I'm sure you guys would be all over me if I killed it with a Butcher knife. I chose the fastest, easiest option. I chose the gun because I know how to shoot one.

You're probably right, I suppose. But it seems a lot more visceral to put your dog down with something like a knife. I don't even think I could physically bring myself to do it. Especially if I was already in a panic.
