Sauerkraut is not even in the same ballpark as properly fermented foods what is your problem It doesn't even smell bad
I had no idea Sauerkraut even counted as fermented food.
I had no idea Sauerkraut even counted as fermented food.
It IS created by dumping all ingredients in a barrel and letting it sit for a while, but it's more of a preserved food than a fermented one I'd say
I'll agree that Sauerkraut isn't amazing on it's own, but it's more of a supplement if anything. A healthy one at that .
Sauerkraut is not even in the same ballpark as properly fermented foods what is your problem It doesn't even smell bad
I get genuinely nauseous at the smell/taste of more than a few drops of vinegar, meaning I have a pretty strong distaste even for pickled foods and stuff not really "fermented" in the normal sense. I don't know why, I just have a real strong distaste for foods preserved through fermentation/pickling/etc. I can stomach a pickle if I accidentally eat one on a burger or something, even though I hate the taste, but I'd gag if I had to eat a whole pickle myself. A little tiny bit of sauerkraut on a brat won't make me vomit, but when you spend months handling the shit in huge quantities almost daily, it's pretty awful. Kimchi isn't as bad as sauerkraut or other pickled foods but I still haven't found any kind of pickled/fermented/vinegar-soaked-food that I actually enjoy. It either just tastes sorta bad or it genuinely makes me gag. Every food I've tried with pickles/sauerkraut/whatever on it is much better without that shit on it. And I'm not even that picky an eater when it comes to anything else - I just hate vinegar and fermentation and brine and that type of shit. Ruins a lot of seafood for me, too. But I'll have tears running down my face eating genuine Thai food and I'll love it.
i had to handle subway pickles when i worked there and i still fucking love pickles
This is why we fucking left the swedes...
The only fermented foods I actually enjoy are bread, cheese, yogurt, some dairy creams, and soy sauce. I don't even like pickles or sour cream.
"I don't get how anyone could eat fermented food." "Here's 5 things that i eat and enjoy"
The problem is that people eat surströmming as a challenge in these types of videos. You're not supposed to just eat them straight out of the can :v: You're supposed to have them as a side, with potatoes, chive/dill and sour cream. [editline]30th August 2016[/editline] And also, they're an ingredient for meals like Janssons Frestelse http://www.koket.se/leif_mannerstrom/huvudratter/fisk_och_skaldjur/janssons_frestelse_med_surstromming/ Nom nom nom.
this is the problem with all youtubers testing surströmming, while some people eat just the potatoes and surströmming, people that aren't used to it should try it the easier way [t]http://www.hogakusten.com/images/200.4dc0ac22155ed2062391826d/1468588598094/surstrommingsklamma.jpg[/t]
"you're going to get sick and die if you touch that shit."
Surströmming is supposedly actually really good for your digestion system, as it contains tons of "friendly" bacteria you need to stay healthy First time I smelled it I vomited pretty much instantly though, and I've avoided it since. But yeah, people who've eaten it since they were kids with proper side-dishes thinks it's really nice, and you're meant to open the can underwater, as the fish itself supposedly tastes really good, while the juice it's in smells like death

Durian fruit for example.
Hey man if you think the nordics are crazy about fermented food, look to the east. You got the classics like century egg, funazushi, balut... :vomit:
I don't get how anyone could eat fermented food. Like, I love the fuck out of some sushi or a rare steak, but actually letting it rot before you eat it? Why?? Kimchi, sauerkraut, surströmming - they all trigger that animal instinct to stay the fuck away because they smell like a literal bloated rotting corpse and my lizard brain says "you're going to get sick and die if you touch that shit."
Hey man, kimchi is awsome. A friend of mine's grandmother brought her recipe over from South Korea and it's some of the tastiest stuff I've ever had served with rice.
Balut aint even fermented, it's a fertilized chicken growing in its egg that is then boiled alive-ish and eaten
:disgust:
surströmming is how i imagine it is for other countries to eat Vegemite
dont talk shit about sauerkraut
Sauerkraut is so awful that it caused two world wars
