I started working in a bar/club on Saturday. First day was really tough but the pay is nice. £48 per night I work there (which is really good, £6 an hour considering minimum wage for under 18s is £3.50 or similar). It was tough (I'm not the fittest of people, and picking up bottles, mopping floors and taking out rubbish in a crowd of 200 drunk/drugged people for 8 hours straight is no easy deal) but rewarding. I'll be working friday and saturday nights. I was really tired after last saturday but I guess it teaches you the value of money and hard work. Get a job, you won't regret it. Its only been 3 days and I already found it a good experience. Plus you get to meet new people!
ye i think im gonna go get a job 2 can't decide if i wanna apply @ a grocery store or a blockbuster ya know cuz blockbusters suck......
Put up a lemonade stand.
This, but make sure you get the right balance of lemons/sugar and DON'T BUY TOO MANY ICE CUBES AS THEY'LL MELT OVER NIGHT.
Oh dear, why did I post this thread on a web forum where 96% of the members have no experience past playing on a computer.
You wanted help from the community by insulting others? You sure will get the "boost" you were asking or.
My first job I worked at was at a large retail store as a "box boy", basically I would unbox shipments all day in the back and help customers bring heavy shit out to their car when it was needed. On wednesdays, new shipments would come in, and pretty much the entire back store crew had to help unload the truck of supplies. It wouldn't have been bad if it weren't for the fact that managers were anal about us talking on the job, and I didn't have to close all the time. Closing for box boys = either sweeping the entire floor of this football sized store or cleaning the bathrooms and getting the trash. My second job was as a political phone call person. Basically, I would call up and coming politicians and ask them to use my boss's phone messaging service for the campaigns. Politicians can be some nasty people. I wasn't too particularly fond of the job. In a nutshell, I wouldn't recommend either. I'm applying for a Subway soon since one of my good friend's dad owns it, hopefully I'll have a better work experience there. Just thought I'd share my experiences.
I recently started working in a amusement arcade, today I had to attach a wheel to a crane because the wheel had become majorly bent. Also two days ago I put some black tape over a coin slot, because a coin was stuck and I couldn't get any of the coins to move. After about 10 minutes someone decided to stick a another coin down there anyway. Still the right job can be enjoyable at times, if not you still get paid.
I am 16, almost 17 and a Sophmore in highschool.
What the fuck.
Oh dear, why did I post this thread on a web forum where 96% of the members have no experience past playing on a computer.
Hey, I've been working for Kroger for a year starting out as a Courtesy Clerk and worked up to Cashier/U-Scan Attendant. I started with $7.25 Minimum wage and now I'm making $7.45 an hour.
What the fuck.
That seems like the normal age in US?
This, but make sure you get the right balance of lemons/sugar and DON'T BUY TOO MANY ICE CUBES AS THEY'LL MELT OVER NIGHT.
What you just said reminded me of this game. Very useful for learning how to set up a lemonade stand.
When you apply, include a resume. Since you're a denizen of FP, be sure to include "Admined "SERIOUS DarkRP server for 3 weeks", and "Runs a guild in WoW". If this is actually true for you, also add "Inventor of several memes", knowing that FP's launched around 3. I'll let you take credit for mine, because I know taking a job means a lot to you. Be sure to add a nice watermark to your paper, probably a giant lolcaption that is faintly visible. And when you print it out, paste it to some black posterboard, and add a demotivator caption to it. The employers enjoy a good demotivator every now and again.
A sixteen year old with no prior work experience can't exactly afford to be picky about what kind of job he gets. Don't expect anything glamorous, you're going to have to work through the shit in order to prove to higher-level employers that you're qualified enough for more responsibilities. Fast food, supermarkets, and grocers are the sort of job you'll be looking for. My first real job was working at a restaurant as a busboy. My duties included: mopping up spills, cleaning tables, bringing dirty dishes to the dish-washer, and refilling drinks. For this I was paid five dollars an hour (I was fifteen, this was an off-the-books arrangement. Working for a family friend's friend sort of thing) plus a three or four dollar cut from the waitress's tips at the end of the night. It was a shitty job. After that, I graduated to being a bagboy at a grocery store, then a dishwasher at a different restaurant, and then a Subway sandwich-maker-guy. Jobs for kids in high school are generally very unpleasant.
I was lucky with my first job, it was counting stock at a local supermarket on a sunday night. With unsociable hours and sunday working pay, I had a salary of about £8.30 an hour. Wasn't too bad! However, it was only once a week so I couldn't really pull in a lot of money. I have had a few jobs since then and my experience is that you need to have something on your CV / résumé that makes you stand out above all others. For mine, that is being a Special Constable. The last couple of jobs, I'm sure I wouldn't have gotten it if it wasn't for my experience.
I work at Menards as a cart pusher, or "carry-out", and it isn't bad. $8.25 weekdays, $10.75 on weekends. Don't expect to get a call by applying at 2 places, I applied at 24 before I got a single call. Don't expect this to improve your schoolwork much, you'll be so tired after work in the first few weeks you'll want to pass out right after. It isn't easy, and it's a little late bud, most places hire march. Early April probably isn't too late though, give it a shot. What have you got to lose?
Your minimum wages sound so low, in australia i would reject anything under $12 an hour and consider anything above $18 an hour. Im trying to find a job aswell, for the roles im applying for the median income is on average 35k a year so im hoping for around $19-20 an hour working full time

How long days would you do? If you would do 8 hour per day and got 20$ per hour you would get 60,000 a year.

It'd work out about £26k per year. That's an average full time wage for a university graduate.
If you're willing to go through the training, lifeguarding is always a viable option. I started at 15 (18 now) and made tons of money over the summer. It's easy as hell, and chances are you'll meet some chill guys and girls. Also try to play to your strengths if you have enough selection. For instance, right now I work at this big tutoring company for little kids because I had good enough grades and love kids. If you don't have that many options, just take what you get. Money is money.
The most important part is the resume.
My first job was (and still is) maintnance at my college. Pretty awesome work, considering that the bosses are pretty cool people, and it's a student-job, so you just need to give them an excuse and you just don't work for a day. Cleaning around the place isn't bad, and listening to books/music the entire time isn't a bad thing. The best/worst thing about it is the bathrooms though, seeing that there's the classic Janitor's Story from the Depths of Hell situation, like a shat pair of pants, or a fucking bottle of glitter spread out over the entire fucking bathroom requiring a vacuum to fully clean :argh:
Hullu v3, let me offer you some examples to support my case, also $20 an hour does not work out to be 60k a year, closer to 38.4k a year, assuming 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and 48 weeks a year. these are ads from the australian job site seek the first one i've applied to is a newsagent addentant which is advertising a hourly rate of $20-$25 another is a dta entry role in a transport company which offers the same hourly rate and the third is a retail assistant role in a furniture store offering a 36.4k a year salary with superannuation, and uncapped commisions
Whoa, minimum wage is way too low in your country. I only work on Saturdays at a store (cashier) and earn 24 USD/hour. 20 year old student still living at home (Uni. is only 15 min away from here) :O.
It seriously took me two weeks to get a job at a restaurant as a dishwasher. When that restaurant went out of business it took me 3 days after filling out 5 applications to get a job as a cook at another restaurant. It's easy as fuck, just put in some effort and be polite. Dressing nice is always a plus.
Im 17 and i have applied for 7 in the last 2 days :buddy:
It seems that anybody who asks for help with jobs here gets flamed to death.
Why is FP becoming the diary of every teenager in the English-speaking world? Not to be an asshole, but nobody honestly cares that you either: • You found a shitty ring from LOTR • You're "considering" getting a job • You were a social failure but now you're not
...I really think a job would benefit my self-esteem, and cause my grades to improve a lot more, of course I'm unsure of that because I have never had previous work experience. ...I really am the type that enjoys work, no matter what type of work it is
You answered yourself in the very first post...
