Is that Cassiopeia on the upper right in the lower image
Seems to be. Astrometry was unable to identify it until I gave it some coordinates.

NGC 869 (Open starcluster) on the left too. With longer exposures and proper filters you could probably also see some of the Heart and Soul nebula in the top left corner.
Where can I use this astrometry thing?

Nevermind I checked out the link of your image.

too bad it was lost at sea...
RIP Falcon, you did your job, then paved the way for future landings

Dem artifacts.
Ordered a dew heater for my lens. Shipping will probably take a while so I probably won't be using it until next Fall (only a few hours of proper darkness left).

SpaceX has stopped ULA from buying RD-180 engines from Russia, atleast temporarily: http://arstechnica.com/science/2014/05/spacex-says-rocket-purchases-violate-russian-sanctions-gets-injunction/
I wonder how long that will ground the Atlas V?

I'm wondering how many engines they have in storage, if they have enough they might be able to pull through just fine (or at least minimize the damage it will do).
Otherwise I suppose it depends on how long the sanctions against Russia are going to be in place.

I think this is the most my kit lens can do with such a small object.
If you go up and a bit to the right, you can see the comet C/2012 K1.
I changed my major from 3D animation to Astrobiology because space
I changed my major from 3D animation to Astrobiology because space
That's quite a big change. Glad you're pursuing your bigger passion, though.
I changed my major from 3D animation to Astrobiology because space
You can major in astrobiology? I kind of thought that was something you just did with a biology degree.

Finally got my camera-telescope adapter, so now I can start taking pictures of space stuff.
Was a bad day for Jupiter, so I tried to get a moon picture as a start.

Was a bit cloudy, and barely above the horizon near some trees, but I think it was ok for a first test.
Should go better next time
A group of people are raising money in order to make equipment to turn the ISEE-3 probe back on and bring it into an orbit around L1.
They have the full money but they still need money in order to use the Deep Space Network so that they can accurately find its location.
There are only 4 days left in the campaign - there is still time!

Dat throttling
I just bought this http://www.astroeq.co.uk/purchase.php
Allows me to hook up my laptop to the telescope so that it may act as a GoTo unit, but as well as tracking stars and doing all other kinds of cool stuff.
Now we wait until summer is over and my camera getting fixed. After that it's time for epic shots.

Crazy fuckin' map that show's the average distance between the planets, as well as scaled images, in which one pixel is equivalent to 3747.8 kilometers. Or, in other words, one pixel is the size of the moon.
I scrolled through the whole thing holding the right arrow key, stopping only to gawk at planets and read the little quotes he left in the voids between them. It took me about 40 minutes, which, using the final distance listed at the end of the page, and according to my calculations...
Means I was scrolling at an average of 8.2143 times the speed of light. It took me nearly an hour to clear Pluto at over eight times the speed of light.
And, according to the map, it would take another 6,771 more of these maps before any other point of reference appeared.
I mean, take my calculations with a grain of salt, I did fail calculus, but I'm fairly certain I did the math right. I'd welcome anyone to check the math for me (approx. 40 minutes scroll time, final distance, 5,914,297,239 km, speed of light used is 1,080,000,000 km/h).
But still. 8 times the maximum conceivable speed, which even that is a hair short of impossible for any craft we can theorize to reach, and it still took me almost an hour to get out of something as astronomically microscopic as the orbit of Pluto.
Just when you think you understand the scale of the Universe...

Should get some filters too to eliminate all the light pollution.
I was looking into Baader modding my camera, but can't seem to find anyone who'd do it in Finland and wouldn't want to try myself ending up breaking the camera. + I should probably get a better lens first anyways.

I like the shape of the original dragon capsule better, but the things this capsule will do are absolutely amazing.
Look at the space in that thing. This is like the SUV of capsules, and the Souyez in comparison is as tight as a f1 cockpit.
This is only vaguely related, but how awesome would it be to get a tesla sport with spacex seats?
