Damn I'm jealous. That's one of Celesteron's cassegrain scopes isn't it?
Yup, CGEM 800
Yup, CGEM 800
Are you going to do astrophotography with it? I've seen some pictures taken using that scope. They're absolutely stunning. Hell yeah I'm gonna take pictures with it, tried taking one of saturn tonight by just sticking my dslr onto the back of the scope and came up with this http://i.imgur.com/jMrBnGN.jpg (large unedited photo) I've got a ways to go but this was actually the very first picture I took and it happens its the best of tonight
I like space.
good to know! thanks for sharing <3

Got my AstroEQ unit that now allows me to control my mount with a computer. Here's how the controls look like. It's pretty badass. I can manually control it or chose any point on the map and it'll slowly slew there automatically. [t]http://i.imgur.com/hncgPb9.png[/t]

Took some images of the moon with my telescope (Celestron 130 SLT): http://imgur.com/a/47cTy

Space question: I was watching this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pw0IZg7_4mo and it said that Mars' moons were moving closer/further from it. Why does this happen? What causes the orbits to drift like that?
-nvm- they're not ecentric probably some form of resonance between mars, deimos and phobos [editline]20th June 2014[/editline] [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/db/Orbits_of_Phobos_and_Deimos.gif[/t] [editline]20th June 2014[/editline]
Because the orbit of Phobos is below synchronous altitude, the tidal forces from the planet Mars are gradually lowering its orbit. In about 50 million years, it could either crash into Mars' surface or break up into a ring structure around the planet.
possibly refering to this
Went outside with my telescope and looked at some messier objects. I looked at M57 and M56 with my 80mm refractor, though hey both didnt look like much other than patches of diffuse brightness, but the ring nebula actually looked like a ring when I saw it out of the corner of my eye. The other one was a globular cluster, and it just looked like a faint glow. M57 is the Ring Nebula btw. The viewing conditions where I am are complete ass.
well even though space-x has been scrubbed today, have some other stuffs i found [t]http://grin.hq.nasa.gov/IMAGES/SMALL/GPN-2000-000617.jpg[/t] [t]http://grin.hq.nasa.gov/IMAGES/SMALL/GPN-2000-001543.jpg[/t] [t]http://d3.static.dvidshub.net/media/thumbs/photos/1302/861970/450x360_q75.jpg[/t] [t]http://d3.static.dvidshub.net/media/thumbs/photos/1210/714652/360x450_q75.jpg[/t]
Scientists noticed a 'magic island' in their photos of Titan's lakes that appeared briefly then disappeared. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/magic-island-appears-out-of-nowhere-on-titan-saturns-biggest-moon-then-quickly-disappears-9555110.html
Im going to get a T-adapter and a T-ring so I can attach my DSLR-A560. I already have a 2x barlow with threads for a T-ring, and according to the manual for my telescope it already can focus properly for prime focus photography without a barlow.
Had to stay a few nights in phoenix to get a surgery done, really makes me thankful I live in a city with some fuckin laws against light pollution Now if only I had the strength to take my telescope out
53 days until complete darkness (Sun at least 18° below horizon). Can't wait to try out some new lenses.
Man, why do people like this exist? Vid in question https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBNxyGd3PeI But really, people like this disturb me. What must they be like in real life?
The moon is an illusion created by our reptilian overlords obviously. wake up!!!
The moon is an illusion created by our reptilian overlords obviously. wake up!!!
Looks like I'll have to kill myself to be teleported to the alien spaceship that's trailing Hale-Bopp [editline] [/editline] Wait fuck comets obviously aren't real
My T-Ring for the sony alpha mount came today. Just finished balancing everything for use with a Sony A560 camera, and its clear weather so I will try to image Saturn, Mars, and M57 tonight. I also finally got my equatorial mount set up for proper polar alignment, so my motor drive should track stuff nicely with some fine tuning.

Did some imaging, and got off to a good start I think. I have a motor drive, but it only drives the RA axis at a speed I control with a knob, and it also means I cant use the slow motion controls for the RA axis. Declination I have to point manually, and I can use the slow motion controls in most cases, although when I look around vega the motor drive blocks the use of the slow motion controls. I got some p. good first images of the moon, and some HD video, as well as a few images of Saturn. The seeing conditions today where especially bad though. One day I will go to space and take really cool pictures
