First Cosmos episode tomorrow (Monday for us Europeans)!
got it set to record in hd, so stoked
The official Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey soundtrack has been released on Spotify if anyone is interested: http://open.spotify.com/track/3Uoq4CpyMNdb0TiLvLXxHp
Would the Cosmos episodes be uploaded online? I know some TV shows upload full episodes after they air.
Probably not. They want to capitalize off of it. It might be on a paid service of some kind like Hulu.
Expedition 39 just occurred. Three astronauts have left the station, and for the first time, a Japanese person is in command of the station.
Here are some pictures from the livestream of the souyz leaving.

And a very good comment.

Took some space pictures with new T-adapter that came in. Hopefully they turned out good.

Decided to look at birds with the telescope.
[editline]13th March 2014[/editline]
I wish I could have taken a proper shot, the details were amazing. One of the birds yawned and I was literally looking down its throat, seeing the shape of its tongue and all.

Is this the first evidence of extraterrestrial life?
CRS-3 launch scrubbed. Launch set for NET 3/30 - 4/4. Above countdown no longer correct.
I imagine most of the people who frequent here have read about it already, but here's a mention of it anyway:

Gravitational waves and expansion etc. Read Johnny's posts to understand it. (And also the paper itself if you're really interested).

My Mechanics lecturer (An Astrophysicist by trade) was practically skipping when he came in to the lecture today. We spent about a quarter of the lecture discussing it, even though I'm guessing most didn't understand enough to appreciate it.
I went outside to use my telescope and I was wondering why I couldn't see anything.
I didn't take the lens cap off.
Whoa neat, another Sedna has been found (and news agencies are calling it Biden for some reason?)

russia today is blowinggg ittttt
just straight up false reporting. the concept art is from 2004 and of Sedna, not VP 113. also measures distances from the earth not the sun for some reason.
First attempt at some telescope photography!

If I had a camera for my telescope I would probably have some p. nice pictures of jupiter, mars, and saturn by now.
Hopefully they don't delay the CRS-3 launch again.
At least the launch is going to be at a great time for me, instead of the previous 4 or 5 AM.
I've been looking at some information regarding telescopes on these pages, and I really need some advice. From what I've been able to gather, relfector and compound/catadioptric telescopes with an aperture of about 150 to 200 mm are great for viewing distant planets and deep space objects. I'll be bringing this telescope with me to a country place with a beautiful night sky, far from town. My sister also has a system camera, so I'll have access to a great camera that I'll hopefully be able to connect to the telescope.
I'd love to be able to view mars, jupiter, saturn and maybe even some galaxies, I just need some help getting started with some advice on what to be looking for in a telescope. Basically, what I'm looking for is: portable but still powerful, "GoTo" capability, compatible with system cameras, and a decent price (I'm ready to pay 5000 sek/760 usd and a bit more).
Preliminary googling has led me to something like this: http://www.celestron.com/browse-shop/astronomy/telescopes/nexstar-130slt-computerized-telescope.
Catadioptric are very expensive. An aperture in the range you specified would probably be out of your budget.
Anyone know if there's any way to get Cosmos episodes legally? Are they showing re-runs of all the previous episodes ever?
Plasma blob with spots.

Shot this through a window with iffy focusing (telescope got front heavy with both the camera and filter on, so focusing was very challenging), gonna try getting a sharper shot a bit later :0.

Didn't have the guts to try looking with an eyepiece on first try.

Hulu Plus is the only place I know of. I got a 7 day trial and caught myself up but I realize I probably should've waited.
Hulu Plus sucks dick is the only problem. I'd never pay for it. You pay for the service, get less content than Netflix, and it still shows you about 5 minutes of ads throughout each show.

Only 3 weeks until episodes start being taken off

You don't need plus to watch it though.

As it turns out I'm wrong on all accounts actually, because not only this, but yeah you can totally just watch them on Fox's site.
If you want to watch it on a Roku tho, Hulu Plus is required. Intelligent people hook their computer up to their TV anyway so that's a non-issue.

My flight-suit I got for my birthday finally arrived, and it fits perfectly thankfully. Just need to get the patches for it next. Having difficulty with what size of NASA meatball insignia patch I should get so that it will fit on the upper right
so any help with what size I should look for would be appreciated, along with what size national flag patch I should look for, which i'm planning on sewing onto the left shoulder of the suit.
Be sure to catch Mars!

It's really bright and visible at the moment. Considering taking out the scope.
