Never thought I'd see Gex of all things.
forgot that series even existed.
That's so disappointing to hear that the game isn't really good.
It has so little new or original things to it. It really just is a HD Banjo Kazooie rip, would prefer a original new platformer..

Supposedly he revised his opinion on BOTW but still thinks it isn't a true Zelda

I mean that is literally exactly what they marketed as, and they got 2 million dollars under that pretense, so I guess they succeeded?
Meh. After putting a few hours in I still enjoy it. I feel like the issues are getting blown out of proportion. It's lacking here and there in some areas but it's still really fun and enjoyable. The content that is there is pretty well polished.
If you liked Banjo 1 and 2 I still think you won't be disappointed with this game. I'm having lots of fun with it personally.

"true zelda"
I hate this type of thinking. Kills creativity and innovation.

I don't think it's wrong for someone to want a series to be like it already was. I mean, at what point is a game in a series still wholly part of said series and not just riding on the prestige of the name.
I'm not saying I don't think BotW is true zelda, I haven't played it. But I can understand why fans of a series would like the devs to stay true to the series.
For example, I'm a really big fan of the Persona series, but if SMT5 ends up being like a persona game—I'd go apeshit dude. There's lots of things I love about the SMT series that I would hate to see go, even if it was getting replaced by other things I love.

I mean we can even go a step further: how would you feel if the next Zelda ended up being a AAA WW2 Online Competitive shooter?
and then an old school zelda fan goes "wtf man this isn't really Zelda"
would you go "stfu dude, way to restrict the developers' creativity"?
That's obviously a slippery slope fallacy, but that's kind of my point, where do we draw the line?
I feel like I'm the only person in the world that likes Banjo-Tooie over Kazooie. It was everything the first game was and more. And I played it very recently and still liked it a ton. (Also giant post warning.)
Besides that, I'm enjoying Yooka-Laylee so far but I do agree with Dunkey's points. The doors feel especially strange. Maybe I've been spoiled by Breath of the Wild? Or other modern games...but the different areas of the world are usually all interconnected without any loading/black screens. I'm actually curious if the black fade in/outs are even loading anything? They sometimes feel like they're just there because the old games had them. But the old games had them because of the limitations of the hardware. This feels like it's doing it just because.
The truck also controls really awful. You can't turn in place and instead it moves like a real car, where it has to move forward and turn. I understand it wouldn't be realistic for a truck to turn like that, but when you have the truck doing platforming on small platforms and you need to turn without moving forward, that's really really awful.
I also feel like it's missing something...I know everything is brand new but it doesn't feel new? If that makes any sense? I dunno. Like I said I'm still enjoying it but it isn't the big comeback I was hoping for. It's more like an addition to the old games with no new stuff on top...oh well. I'm still gonna play the crap out of it.
I just had hope that it was gonna be big and new and bring platforming back! Ah well... :surrender:

The scifi theme is so catchy I still have it in my old ass music folder.

...What the FUCK does that mean though? Complaining that BOTW isn't a 'true' Zelda game is so fucking stupid it's kinda incredible. The series has always been pseudo open world, and multiple times in the series you've been dropped into a big world and told to just go "do whatever". Other ones have had durability, other ones have had crafting, dungeons in your own order.
Breath of the Wild is just a fusion of all the 'open' aspects of the other games, mechanically it's nearly identical to control as many other earlier titles, just with a dedicated jump button.
Please, please tell me where his bullshit reasoning comes from, I rarely get so invested in someone else's opinion unless it's extremely incomprehensible

Like I said, I haven't played botw nor am I really a fan of Zelda in general. I was just going against the point shadow_oap made that wanting a series to stay true to itself is inherently bad.

Kind of like the nation's demographics and collective gene pool.
I'm playing. Of course it's not so white and black, but the whole "true" whatever way of thinking is flawed imo because things change all the time. Ocarina wasn't like the first Zelda's, so what makes that any more truer? And an argument can be made that the new BotW is closer to the originals.
It's just a cop out traditionalist viewpoint to claim something's not "true" because it's different. I'm sure Jon had more to say that I didn't hear but I'm just commenting on the ideal in general.
Yeah, I get that. I suppose I was being overly pedantic. That's my b.
and multiple times in the series you've been dropped into a big world and told to just go "do whatever".
Like the very first game.
He brings up some great points (like the Rextro games being garbage), but also some downright ignorant ones (Unity being a bad engine).
But, dunkey is more of an entertainer (and a very good one), so I guess I'm more willing to let the more ignorant points slide.
I think the game is alright. Could be better, could be worse. Worth the $15 I put into the Kickstarter, and it delivers on what they promised, but I won't disagree that it could've been so much more than it is.
I guess it helps that I didn't go in expecting it to be the "True comeback of 3D platfomers!" like a lot of other people were. I expected a B-K esque game, and that's what I feel like I got, even if it doesn't quite reach the same level as that game.
Game looks alright, definitely want to get it when it comes out on the Switch (As long as the port isn't total shite).

I'm actually curious about one of the loading quotes on the Switch version. :v: One of them says "If cartridges were still popular, this would have loaded already". I'm wondering if they're not gonna have that on the Switch version lol.
Dunk acknowledges Gex?! Shitty or not, I really like Gex: Enter the Gecko and Gex 3!

I still wonder why people were even calling it a "true comeback of 3D collect-a-ton platformer" when A Hat in Time clearly put that genre back in the spotlight for this generation, ignoring the fact AHiT is taking 4 years and was probably forgotten and this only took 1.5 years. I can understand if people say it's because of Playtonic made of former Rare developers, in which they made fucking awesome games back in the SNES/N64 era.
For developers that can't stop acknowledging their days in Rareware, they really missed the mark in making something Rare
But in all seriousness, it really sounds a lot like a case of trying to follow the wrong game. Banjo-Tooie isn't as appreciated nowadays as Banjo-Kazooie is, but they followed Tooie to a fault. They've got some neat ideas, like the Tonics, but a lot of the UI, sound design, and polish just seem.. off, like the game isn't quite finished yet or something.
Is it weird for me to say that I much preferred Tooie and DK64 over Kazooie? v:v:v
Supposedly he revised his opinion on BOTW but still thinks it isn't a true Zelda
if this kind of thing can come out of his mouth i couldn't imagine what else he might say
Is it weird for me to say that I much preferred Tooie and DK64 over Kazooie? v:v:v
I feel almost exactly the same...We're like the only people in the world, man. :v:
Only thing is I would rank Kazooie above DK64 personally. But Tooie goes above both of 'em.
i do not trust jontron because he thinks breath of the wild sucks dick
but is he worse than Jim?
I'm really glad he mentioned the energy bar. Finally someone can speak for me
Also... why is he shitting on Unity? There are so, so many games that are awesome that run on Unity
