As long as you keep their basic needs fulfilled then you are doing better than what most do with their pets.
From the sound of it, you are doing well.
Caring is the most important part and you sir, care.
I demand pictures.
Preferably cute ones.
I felt the same way with my old ass bird. He's like 10 years over the life expectancy of his species. So one day I took him out of the cage and he freaked out on me. I should have realized he was senile when he started eating his own shit.
teach one of them martial arts. Then buy 4 turtles. Pour toxic waste on the turtles, and put them close enough to the martial-art rat that the rat also absorbs the radiation. When they grow, release them into the sewers, and they will have fulfilling lives.

:sigh: Yeah... Just what we need, MORE dumb animated animals with bad voicecasting and trashy jokes that's been done a million times already.
When will the movie industry come up with something original for once?
Yeh rats won't really get bored or anything on the same level as humans, they are probably happy with food, water and space.
Everybody knows that rats attempt to take over the world every night.
You should let them have access to a lab full of james-bond-super-villain stuff if you want them to have a worth life
I have had pet rats, only one at a time. I mostly kept them in the cage, but sometimes I would walk around with my rat on my shoulder (not with my favorite shirt on though). At the very least you've saved them from being snake food!
You should hold them more often. Pets love that.
I have a few rats myself, 3. 2 of them hate coming out of their cage but 1 loves it. I always take the 1 out and whenever i can i take the others out. I also got them a huge cage. I think if they should have to spend most of their life in a cage, they should at least have a big one. Also, i've heard you should take your rats out for at least an hour a day. You don't really have to play with them though, that's the fun part, closing an area and letting them run around is really fun for them. Anything out of their cage really.

Fuck animated movies.
They can just have a shitload of rats in a room playing baseball with mini bats and mini balls and mini attention spans.
No, the movie probably wouldn't end out well...
No, you're not.
You think your not picking them up enough, pick them up some more. :v:
I had 2 rats. Brown. One was a male and one was female.
I was a animator back in the day so i needed tons of quietness. But i kept them in a cage in my room. I heard tons of squeels and i said "Son of a bitch" and went to my room.
And boom. Alfro (Male Rat) Was on top of the female rat trying to revive it. It was on it and pushing. At first i thought they were playing but i saw the female rat wasn't breating.
I quickly got it out, Closed the cage and drove to a nearby pet doctor. It was pronounced dead on arrival. She was really cute. I always see her in my dreams.
I was 16 back in 2005 when this happend. Now im 21.
Get a hammock (correct word?) for them and watch them all cuddle up.
I had 4 female rats and they ran around my room freely. I usually have lots of people comming over who all want to play wit them so they got enough attention.
I also build a large wooden and mesh wire outside playpen for them.
Have you made your rats fetch your wallet for you?
No idea. He just kinda fell over one day.
That happened to one of my rats once after I got home from work. The rest were in their house sleeping and he was sitting on top of it by himself, kind of shivering. He looked frightened. I picked him up for a minute, then went to have a shower and I was going to put a towel on my bed and sit him down and pet him to calm him down, but by the time I got out of the shower he was dead. He looked like he was in such pain when he went, I felt so bad. The weird part is that some kind of odd looking gelly stuff came out of his penis, he must have had some really fucked up, painful disease. He was my favourite one too.

That's a lot of rats, buddy. As long as you keep them clean, well-fed, and entertained, there should be no issues with their contentment. Rats are pretty social creatures, so try and take ten or fifteen minutes a day to play with 'em a bit, and you should be aces. How did you choose their names? I name all my rodents after philosophers.
Do you have a rat named Socrates yet?
The thing about animals is that they are content with just having enough space/water/shelter/food.
It's not like they want to aspire to become the world's best baseball team.
They can still become bored. Although I'm not sure what entertains a rat.
Man I had rats once. I loved those little guys but I felt the same way as you, I never spent enough time with them. My advice would be show them more attention, When they die and you just have that thought running through your head, it's horrible
I once had a pet rat. He died when he fell over on the ground and start spazzing out and twitching. :saddowns:
How the fuck is this funny?
I like my girlfriends fish that I have to watch for three weeks, that's about the closest thing I'll get to actually owning a pet. Haven't killed it yet!
The life of a Rat goes abot the same as a Duke Nukem quote:
"Eat shit and die."
You're already giving them a life of luxury.
Well, I tried that and bedding in the home-built cage just falls out and gets all over the floor..
Also some woodchips can give them respiratory infections.
I see a lot of people use sawdust. Have you tried that?
Rate me late or bad reading if this has already been answered.
Like Big Dumb American said, they are fairly social, so they will enjoy attention. I remember a friend of mine who kept rats, and they would snuggle up to you when you picked them up. :)
Other than that, your rats seem to be fine. Just spend some time each day with them.
I remember that my friend used to have rats, he gave them cola and monster.

He would be a great parent
I accidenty sat on my rat when it escaped the cage, when I was about 6 or so.
My pet hamster once jumped off my hand and fell on her head, she stared in front of her for like 1½ minute
OK, thanks. Right now I'm in Barcelona, and my grandparents are feeding the pets at home.
makes me wonder the same thing about my Chinese hamster :frown:
[editline]12:56AM[/editline]
she is 3 1/2 years old and has cateracts
I had two rats, both females, one died from a tumor, which is nearly unavoidable for female rats, and the other one is going to die the same way. They used to live in a beautiful 4 foot tall cage with lots of stairs and all, but I had to move them, as the tumor didn't allow them to run around much :saddowns:

Note, It would cost hundreds of dollars to remove them, and they aren't in any pain, and there would still be a chance they couldn't remove them.
