They just own GameTrailers and that's where that video's from.
Making the terrain is pretty easy aswell.
But you don't have very much control. You can do the same in Hammer by drawing a picture, using a modelling program to use that as a displacement, and then export as a vmf to Hammer, it's just not that useful because you can't make anything very good looking. Crysis' editor is simple because it's basic, you can't go as in depth as Hammer or the UDK, for example.
i hope someone posts the video on Vimeo
Viacom has infested Youtube
Valve took the video down for a reason. Besides, that guy has leaked another Valve project before.
Remember the Marriage Proposal level / video? The idiot leaked that too, got 800k views from it.

have you ever even used the crysis editor because i can tell you (after having actually used it) that all of this is bullshit
the crysis editor is insanely featureful and useful and the only reason i'm using unreal instead of cryengine is because of licensing issues and a bad scripting interface. the cryengine editor is amazing
What in the fuck is happening
Just because Valve's ad was shown on Spike TV doesn't mean that it can be directly owned by Viacom.
I always say viacom when I wan't to make people laugh. You know why? Because their a joke.
oh god i read this whole thread and i haven't seen the video yet fuck shit i'm missing out on heaven
Hammer lacks a lot of the features that other more updated editors have. I started off on Hammer and I don't plan on going back till it gets updated.
Things it lacks:
Exporting level as obj files
Importing Models
Importing textures
visual texture editor
Flash support
Preview lighting
play from editor
At this point it feels like working on the Doom editor, comparing it to everything else.
I can imagine this editor being stupidly useful for Machinima. Not all-purpose, for obvious reasons, but in making a simple space to someone's specifications, It's DAMN fast.
Does it say if you can then export these maps to Hammer?
I was looking through youtube and found the video again. I really don't like going against valves wishes but I find it unfair that half the community gets to see it and the other half is refused the chance. So here it is, snag it before the user is forced to take it down.

Cyborgmatt? The Dota 2 patch analyzer guy made that video? sweet
Why does Valve keep using Hammer? It's a pretty shitty editor to be honest.

quick someone copy this and upload it on a video site that isnt youtube.
or media file it
The way you modify the walls and floor reminds me of Sketchup. Looks cool, should be fun to play with for a few hours.
For the first time since it's release, I'm actually impressed by something Portal 2 related.
I hope there will be ways to make more complex chambers (ie. in the 60s/70s/80s Aperture chambers style)
Holy shit that's just amazing. I've always had problems with coming up with my own test chambers for Portal 2 and the fact that you can just drag & drop and easily assemble a quick basic level to get your idea fleshed out is fantastic.
I love how easy it is to play other maps too, just browse, click and play.

Yeah I hope so too, I'm sure Valve will continue to update the hell out of this, but in the mean time you can still easily edit the textures to rustic/dirty version or old aperture once you open the map in Hammer, then slap down some debris and foliage and there you go.
It's awesome, I hope they release it with the CSGO SDK soon !
But will it be free.
But will it be free.
Knowing Valve, I doubt you're going to have to pay for it
It looks like they had console manipulability in mind for the editor, though, so it'd be pretty rad if PS3 players could make puzzles too :D
I have updated the first post with working video.
Hammer looks insanely hard to learn so this is going to be fun and addictive.
Ok can you upload SDK maps to the workshop? Because I'd love to do some non-euclidean type levels.
I really appreciate Valve for making this, it can only really be a benefit for the game, and looks very easy to use.
But, seriously? Why only now are developers starting to create these basic modification tools for first person shooters/puzzle games? Halo 3 introduced forge mode back in 2007 yet barely any games have expanded on its concept. It's in a different genre to Portal 2, but still. This should have been included at launch.
