The contraption made of cardboard is actually picking up that subplot they started in Season 1 where Abed can predict what each character will do. It's started with those little episodes he was doing that predicted what the study group would do, and now he runs simulations about what's going to happen. I don't think it's much of an analysis of Abed's character... it's more like an analysis of what he thinks the others think about him.
Man, remember when Abed was making movies to be understood? Remember when he made movies? And Jeff was trying to help him be more comfortable with people? It's like they've thrown all that out the window and just try to make him as weird as possible. He's come a long way from when he made Jeff and Britta play his parents, or having to overcome his mother having a new family. I guess with having those two episodes down they think they can just cruise through now or something. The "analysis" in this episode wasn't profound, it was pretentious. And, if anything, proved that the characters have degraded since the show started. Abed's social tendencies getting so bad he holds stock in a contraption made of cardboard isn't development. It's the writers taking what they think made him funny in the earlier seasons and making that his whole character. And geez, I completely forgot they were even taking biology.
No, it's a representation of the insecurity that Abed still feels around people. You can see the development of his character just in his general behaviour in seasons. This was a great episode, felt like a real Community episode, and it had some quite profound moments I think. It wasn't an analysis of Abed, it was an analysis of Abed's perspective of his place in the group.

He considers himself disposable, because he's only 'that quirky guy.' I think they're slowly adding some humanity to Abed as the episodes go on, and making him learn how to be more normal.

Yeah, they flanderized the hell out of him but in a way where it made sense and it was a plot point
Huh. Alright, well first, I was referring to analysis in general, not analysis on Abed, sorry should have specified. Thing is, I guess I thought they dealt with the feeling disposable thing already, I mean, that issue already came up in season one when they were trying to get Abed to ask out that girl and then white Abed/brown Joey came in. He said he wanted the group to feel like they could help him so they wouldn't just ditch him. Arguably, you could say that point was a bit open ended, but with Jeff saying he would help Abed in the chicken mafia one and, hell, even through the whole series so far, it felt off to bring it back in again. Especially since the issue was brought up again due to the fact that his social tendencies seem to have regressed since early episodes. Troy didn't use to worry about him for instance, Abed was capable of living on his own, (sort of, he lived in the dorm,) but he was capable. It just doesn't feel like development to me, but I guess it's my own issue. Thanks for the replies, they were constructive.
its a sitcom that almost got canceled at one point youre digging way too deep into it, they just like to add a little drama every so often
i'm really sick of this dreamatorium bullshit
Latest episode also had the lowest viewing figures yet, tis a shame I thought it was a good episode.
I had to check I wasn't accidentally watching an old episode when I was watching the latest episode. Honestly the show is really repetitive it feels like the characters are having the same catharsis every few episodes over and over again and why do the characters even need to be self actualising at all? I don't care I just want funny things to happen on my tv
I agree, the appeal of the show used to be that it didn't take itself seriously at all now its becoming a lot more mushy gushy
Man why can people on Facepunch never just enjoy TV shows? Seriously, all anyone does on here is talk about "the good old days" when everything was supposedly so much better. With shows like Dexter where the quality did drop significantly it's perfectly understandable, but let's face it, not much has changed with Community. Sure a bit more drama has seeped in, but the humour style is the same and it's still perfectly entertaining. This half of the season got off to a rocky start with two episodes that didn't really feel "right", but the few after that have been perfectly fine Community episodes.

I enjoyed that episode quite a bit
Well, tonight's the Law and Order episode.
That was absolutely brilliant. "You don't order ketchup. IT'S A CONDIMENT!" *punches wall* Kind of a weird ending though [sp]I mean, did they really just kill off Starburns?[/sp]
shit i didn't expect a really good episode at this rate but was i wrong [editline]27th April 2012[/editline] speaks for itself

The tag was great. "Troy and Abed, off to Dreamland Catching the train to Sleepytown And when they wake up, the Dean will be here Staring at you"
This episode was pretty funny.

I've noticed something about the good episodes vs. the worse episodes. The good episodes generally actually have something to do with the community college theme. It was a good idea and it worked well in the early seasons but then they tried to get away from it which kinda defeats the point of the show. This is the first episode in a long, long time that actually really used that theme again.
Dan Harmon is a fat faggot that doesn't realize the show is 100 times worse when shitty side characters get more screen time then Chevy Chase
Dan Harmon is a fat faggot that doesn't realize the show is 100 times worse when shitty side characters get more screen time then Chevy Chase
totally yeah true!! he must be OBESE if he thinks that!!!
Dan Harmon is a fat faggot that doesn't realize the show is 100 times worse when shitty side characters get more screen time then Chevy Chase
chevy is boring anyway, he's only there to please the children who watch it, with his fart jokes and penis jokes. he's sometimes funny but he's there for younger audiences.
