HYPE HAS BEEN JUSTIFIED.
Presenting Half-Life 21.
Starting back in the summer of 2010, the estimated time for this run was thought to be roughly 27 minutes. However, after almost four years of painstaking planning, theorycrafting and execution, we have arrived at our final time, smashing all of our wildest expectations.
Not only do we owe this new world-record time to all the new tricks we've discovered, the new routes we've found and the new ways we've
learned to manipulate the game. A lot of the improvement from the first estimation and the previous world record (29 minutes, 41 seconds)
comes from the very hard work and countless hours put into perfecting each and every segment, no matter how short or trivial. This run has
truly been an endurance test for everyone involved, and we're extremely happy to finally be able to share it with you.
Enjoy, Half-Life in 20 minutes, 41 seconds!
Technical details:
* This run sets the new world record for a segmented speedrun of Half-Life on Hard difficulty with an improvement of 9 minutes. (29:41 » 20:41).
* Runners, in order of total amount of segments: quadrazid, CRASH FORT, coolkid, pineapple, YaLTeR, Spider-Waffle, FELip.
* The total amount of segments is 317, 249 of which are shorter than 5 seconds.
* This run is heavily scripted using the in-game console, the most widely used scripts are jump spam, duck spam, 180º turn for gauss boost and precise use-key actions.
* To use the better demo functionality and the support of higher FPS values in the Steam version, a mod have been made to restore the gameplay to the way it was before the anti-bhop patch back in 2001. The mod also features a lot of new HUD elements to aid speedrunning. Read more and download here: http://wiki.sourceruns.org/wiki/Bunny...

Last of all, we'd like to thank everyone who supported us during this run, and thank you for watching!
Imagine the looks on the faces of the scientists and enemies when they see some dude flying through the halls like that.
What's interesting is how they segment it. With hundreds of different mini-segments they can try each separate one hundreds or thousands of times with tiny variations to shave off seconds. The amount of trial and error must be incredible.
I like how this is a collaborative project.
Jesus Christ, the last one was insane..but this...this is just unbelievable.
holy crap 1440p.
I nearly pissed myself when he just slammed the sample into the machine

Then he suddenly takes off into the stratosphere. I was laughing so hard
What the fuck when he rocketed into the room with the lasers shooting into it after the test chamber section. I remember in the previous speedrun they never did that.
0/10 no blown up microwave casserole :v:
4700 hp at 16:06. how?
that was slick
also gets an over 4000 hp boost and finishes with 1
Holy shit.
Too bad we can never see these things in third person or filmmaker perspective. That would be pretty cool.

Holy shit that was fucking amazing On a Rail has to be my fav meet the one man freeman train.
4700 hp at 16:06. how?
The door he gets stuck in has a damage penalty of -1 (which means it adds 1HP per frame), so they crank the FPS to the max and gain 1000HP each second.

Also I beg of you PLEASE download a copy of this and watch it in 60/120FPS right now, it will be SO much more enjoyable.
4700 hp at 16:06. how?
bug where the door adds HP instead of decreasing it, they messed up somewhere while coding the door
[editline]12th April 2014[/editline]
that section before lambda core holy shit
Freeman, you fool!
Also landing those jumps without taking damage is exploiting the player's collision box at the very last frame by crouchjumping just before you land so the game thinks you're only landing from the height of your jump.

constant, belligerent screaming :v:
Awesome to see the end result after following the google doc for so long. I love how the music synchs up. Also that jump off the ichthyosaur and using that scripted to die scientist in blast pit to get health were fucking sweet. Also jesus those level transition jumps he did through walls were nuts.
4700 hp at 16:06. how?
That door's damage is bugged, instead of taking HP, it gives HP
I love speedruns that just leave you in confusion and awe.

I think they edited the music in themselves, in the download version there's two tracks that include either the game audio plus the music or just the game audio. Still nice how they set that up regardless.
This is absolutely beautiful.
Is finishing the game with 1 HP some kind of tradition among speedrunners?

Oh god I tried it.
It's at it's best if you pause it when he stops/goes slow.
