And now we take time to inventory the state of modern gaming:

The fuck is he talking about, bunny hopping is incredibly impressive because if you fuck up you lose a lot of your momentum.
how does he survive all the fall damage is what gets me like he just slid down the entire elevator shaft and landed on the ground without any damage, is there some trick to jumping right when you hit the ground?
crouch 1 frame before you hit the ground and the game calculates it as if you had hit the ground from a normal jump.
Because they share their perfected save....?
It doesn't say that anywhere....?
But thanks, that makes much more sense than everyone having their own game.
Imagine Freeman's Mind was commentating on this entire speedrun.
It would have to start with him mentioning all the coffee he had that morning, and then he'd do nothing but talk insanely fast throughout the whole 21 minutes.
the way these guys figure out how to get a height boost amazes me
he just jumped off a fucking snark

How else would it transition off perfectly with the exact same stats, position, and current momentum?
I'm pretty sure he isn't actually at one health at the end, because when the hp exploit is used it goes beyond what the hp meter can read.
I love how valve kept the "negative damage value gives health" quirk from Quake 1
I remember I made a map for Q1 with a "health station" that did that and my excuse for the character's pain screams was that you were getting injected
Also those soldiers deserve 1000 medals for managing to capture supersonic freeman
i'm just laughing when the guard goes "gordon!" and he's just zooming away
don't download it in 120fps if you don't have a 120hz monitor, it will stutter like fuck if you don't.
Agreed. I thought for myself "Huh I got a 75hz screen so maybe I can get more out of the 120fps file than the 60" I watched the 120 and noticed there was some stutter. The 60 worked better and felt smoother.
EDIT: I've never seen people at 4chan get this pissed at a comment.

No, there's a script they have running that shows the true health value for the meter in the HUD.

That's because a 120fps video will only display at 120fps if your refresh rate is 120hz. It's like playing a game at 60fps on a 59hz monitor (those things shouldn't even exist, whoever made them has a special place in hell).
FPS = frames per second
Refresh Rate = how many times your monitor's screen can be updated with new information in a given second
At 60Hz your monitor can update the picture 60 times in one second. If you're trying to view something that spits out frames faster than your monitor can display them, some pretty weird shit can happen. It works a little differently for games. Pretty sure the reason it doesn't work correctly with videos is how they're actually rendered and encoded.
Yes I know that, I just didn't think about it.
I mostly guessed that VLC would do something magical and force the video to adjust to 75 and not have any visual stuttering, that I was wrong about.
In other cases it can be that a screen is 240hz but can only show 120fps.
I love it when they jump right past that guy in the suit. What the hell was he doing in that level with all those soldiers? Was he scripted to die or is he an easter egg or something?
In other half-life related segmented speedrunning news, the team at SourceRuns are hard at work on a Half-Life 2: Episode 2 segmented run and a new Half-Life 2: Episode 1 segmented run since the current run uses old engine which has bunnyhop as opposed to accelerated back hopping which can be found in the segmented Half-Life 2 speedrun DWaHMoV.
Here is a route a member of the Episode 2 team made for the strider battle, it will probably be faster in the final run but as a concept it's quite good
Is finishing the game with 1 HP some kind of tradition among speedrunners?
I'm guessing it's effeciency, if he'd used a health charger earlier in the speedrun for even 1 hp less he would have died, but 1 hp more and he would have lost some time.
I believe Half-Life is a fine wine that should be savored and enjoyed slowly over the course of many boxes.
Freeman can traverse Black Mesa in a matter of minutes but still can't show up to work on time.

Doubt it since they had picked up health several levels earlier at several thousand hp per second.

The G-Man? You're joking right?

Actually I'm pretty sure he's using a glitch where he can't get anything BUT 1 hp.
By the time this vid finished my Dad would've just gotten into the test chamber
Shit freeman, I know you're late to the test chamber but damn that doesn't mean you can break the laws of physics like that
Gordon is a highly trained professional.
Canon.
that was a thing of beauty
By the time this vid finished my Dad would've just gotten into the test chamber
Your dad is moving so quickly that he has to create the deliberate illusion of moving at the right speed to prevent you from going insane.

At 31:50 an annotation pops up saying that if you fire an AR (whatever that is, an SMG's grenade I guess) below you while holding crouch it will always leave you with 1 hp, I don't know if the same applies to grenades though, I doubt it.
I like how he killed Nihilanth in less than a second. I can't even figure out what he did there.
I died when during the level transition to Xen you hear "Freeman, you fool!"
I love it when they jump right past that guy in the suit. What the hell was he doing in that level with all those soldiers? Was he scripted to die or is he an easter egg or something?
Do you really not recognize the most important character in the series other than Gordon himself
I would really like to see a commentated version of this because there are a few parts that are outright insane in their manipulation of the game
