Wait? Countries still draft people?
if people throw rocks at you, please don't shoot them

Hope you survive your time there, and good luck if they send you into Libya. I ain't saying that Israel's going to Libya, i'm just offering good luck if Israel ends up sending troops into Libya, however unlikely it may seem. Nonetheless, where is the IDF generally active asides from the Middle East nowadays?
Cool, I'll be drafted by the end of this year. Will be fun time (Our army is more of a very long camping vacation).
So, you have to serve 3 years in the military and then go to college?
It ain't as bad as they say. At least you will have a good physical condition after that.
My enlistment date for National Service is probably sometime end of this year. :c
Farewell, you will never see facepunch again because you will be too fucking manly to come back here after you go trough the israeli military training.
though I only have to serve 2 years
So, you have to serve 3 years in the military and then go to college?
Most people in Israel don't go to college, they go directly to universities. I almost got into some part of the army where you study at the university first for 3 years and get your first degree, and then you serve in the army in a better-than-average post for 3 years, but then you have to stay there for an extra 2 years, but it's like a job, you get some good money and stuff, and you get experienced in whatever you do. I got accepted into the university but from what I understand, if the army needed X people out of the Y people who made the cut, I wasn't among the X best people. To make it clearer, if 100 people made the cut, and the army only needed 50, I wasn't on the top 50. But at least I know that once I leave the army, I can join the university and don't have to study hard first. By the way it's not like I'll never be on facepunch again for the next 3 years, I'll be home for about 50% of the weekends during my service.
OP, I might not agree with you 100% of the time, but good luck.
Most people in Israel don't go to college, they go directly to universities.
So at what age does the average person go to university? And what age do they leave school?
So at what age does the average person go to university? And what age do they leave school?
I have no idea, most people don't go to university straight after leaving the army, I'd say on average it'll be like 25-26, and for most people the minimum age they can begin studying there is 21, after serving their 3/2 years.

So when you said college, what were you referring to?
Ah okay. So when you said college, what were you referring to?
We don't really have colleges here, I mean yeah we have some, but it's not common to go there. For example I'm not planning on going to college, I'll just go straight into university seeing as I'll probably be accepted there without too much problem.

Because in my country it generally means a university, or a faculty within a university. Is it just what I know as high school (age is generally 17/18)? Does the IDF give you subsided education?

Maybe I'm mistaken. Yeah the IDF pays for some of my tuition fees for the university, but not for the whole thing I think.

Also, let's hope that Gadaffi gets UAV'd before your basic training's over, so you don't have to bazooka his villa or anything. Although that would be quite a badge of fame, being the guy that ended Gadaffi, even if it's a very remote chance of it happening, let alone you being the one who takes him down, since that's probably the job of agents or commandos.

Ah, well that's good.

Let's go beat some palestines down mo'fucker
Why are they using olive drab camo? This isn't 1914.

בהצלחה. Best of luck, I'll be joining you in half a year.
