Just like a zombie post apocalyptic world is the best setting for human drama too.
Try reading the comic. The zombies are just a catalyst for a change; the focus is and always has been on the human characters. It's the same for the show. If you're watching just to see zombies, you've completely missed the point of The Walking Dead.
I've read the comics. I think you guys are missing the point. We are talking about the tv show. No one is watching the tv show because they care about whether or not Rick finds out Shane boned his wife. What people are watching for is to see who will get eaten next by a zombie, or if a zombie will get its head blown off or bashed in. This kind of problem crops up on a lot of shows. On Lost, the show's writers wrote it as if anyone cared about who Kate winds up with(and other 'human drama' stories), when what people really wanted was more about the island and its mysteries. The best parts of Walking Dead involve stuff that happens when the zombies are in the mix, the worst parts are with the humans only.

It is classified under drama, not action. Anyone who comes in expecting this to be about zombie killing fun is entirely misinformed and needs to find another show.
It's a fucking shame that it's like that though. If the writers actually put any effort into the characters then it would be amazing. I desperately want to care about the characters in a show like this.
You're describing what YOU watch the show for, not what the show is supposed to be about, which is the characters. I'm watching because I want to see what happens to the characters, zombie related or not. The most excited I've been for the whole season is when I saw the teaser for next week showing [sp]Merle's return[/sp] because of the drama that would stir up (of course after the preview on Talking Dead, I get the feeling Daryl is hallucinating after his fall). To put it in a different perspective: do you watch Breaking Bad just to see Walt and Jesse cook meth? Or Sons of Anarchy for the motorcycles? Or Game of Thrones for the sword fights? Or Dexter to see him kill people? If so, you have very shallow tastes. Try paying closer attention to the character interactions.

I haven't felt much depth at all with the characters. I understand it's a drama but it doesn't have the same charm I got from Season 1. The character development is very important but that's no reason to shrug off the world around them. I want to enjoy the show but I really can't. Season 1 had me excited for the next episode and Season 2 has me recording them. There's a lot of character interaction but none of it is really captivating because the cast hasn't been given much character yet. The only person I'm enjoying is Shane because of last episodes transformation. I'll still with it until the 3 month break and then, depending how it ends, will decide whether or not I return in 3 months.
When [sp]Merle[/sp] appears in the promo, he says [sp]I just don't think you're going to make it,[/sp] it sounds a lot like [sp] a hallucination[/sp].
Yes, honestly, I don't think they're going to just reveal [sp]Merle in the promo if he's actually alive or being reintroduced. Most likely a hallucination.[/sp]

I think they're good enough. I get the feeling that I know most of the characters well enough to be able to predict how they will behave in one way or another. And I find the actors believable as well. Although some characters I have lesser ideas about, an example being Carol or that chick that play with guns. Overall I've been enjoying this show.
So, how is Season 2? Never really got around to watching it.
Starts shit, but episodes 3 and 4 are my favorites in the series so far, barring the pilot.
If you enjoy watching characters being dumb but still hoping they survive, it's alright. Writing is getting worse and worse though.
Daryl should be the main character, he's so awesome
I find it funny how Rick can convince anyone to have it his way with his accent alone. "No, Rick, you can't go to a badly hit town naked and unarmed with the children with you! It's a bad idea." "Trawst, me, it's the AWNLHY... WHAY." "Oh, alright then."
Daryl should be the main character, he's so awesome
I find it annoying how both Shane and Daryl are the only ones that are seemingly believable and actually likable. Kinda fucked how its easier to sympathize with Shane over everyone else, no one gives a fuck about Sophia or Carol.
Was it just me or when Shane was having is speech about Otis, was there something off about the way he was saying certain words? Just don't remember noticing it before
Was it just me or when Shane was having is speech about Otis, was there something off about the way he was saying certain words? Just don't remember noticing it before
He sounded a bit retarded
Yeah I know he has an accent but when he was saying words with I think "o" or "s" in them, it sounded really weird
Daryl is an awesome character at least partly because he can function so well in this zombie infested world. Shane became an interesting character when he took action in a zombie related situation. Compare to the mom with the missing kid. All she does is snivel and complain, she has no interaction with zombies and her character sucks. What first made Glen interesting? He was scrounging around in zombie infested territory. This is no coincidence. The zombies are the context that allows these characters to shine. Without the zombies no one would give a shit about any of these people, except maybe Daryl and Merle because I bet a show about those two would be hilarious in any setting. The zombies are a very important ingredient.
Daryl and Merle because I bet a show about those two would be hilarious in any setting.
Spin-off :v:
I think the show's biggest problem is that they focus so much on the Rick and Lori. Rick's just sort of dull and cheesy (take off the fucking sheriff outfit bro, you look like an idiot), and Lori is a massive bitch. Carl is just sort of a generic little kid, but he's probably be pretty rad if he was like 18 or something.
This show and Terra Nova are locked in a race to see which show can have less of what everyone is watching the show for. The ironic thing is both shows have a small segment of fans saying "Terra Nova/Walking Dead isn't about the dinosaurs/zombies."
But.. it isn't. The writers even flat out say it.
Oh, and didn't they sort of find a truck filled with water earlier this season? Why the fuck are they in need of some shitty wellwater? Sloppy writing again I guess.
Truck water wouldn't last forever anyway. Wells are long-term.
Must have been at least a couple of hundred liters of water in that truck, so I don't see a reason for looking for water in wells.
Must have been at least a couple of hundred liters of water in that truck, so I don't see a reason for looking for water in wells.
I assume they had to leave it behind, really no means to transport it
I assume they had to leave it behind, really no means to transport it
Surely they could have loaded quite a bit of them into the RV.
Oh, and didn't they sort of find a truck filled with water earlier this season? Why the fuck are they in need of some shitty wellwater?
Must have been at least a couple of hundred liters of water in that truck, so I don't see a reason for looking for water in wells.
The reason is simple: you don't break out your emergency supplies unless you have to. They may have some of that bottled water in the RV, but why use it if there's an alternate supply where they are camped?
