I just watched it, and [sp]I don't remember Merle from the comics, and they seemed to combine the time that Rick meets Glenn, and when they go back to the city to get guns[/sp]
But I loved it, it was pretty intense.
every single person in the world has seen a zombie movie

Well what if THIS:

And my PC's sound is broke.
I wonder if we'll meet racist versions of other left 4 dead characters, although racist bill would just be any generic old guy in a green beret
There is a [sp]military guy later on in the story[/sp]
God I love this show. This episode was even better than the first.
And for those who complain "Blah blah how wouldn't Rick know it's a Zombie Apocalypse the second he woke up?!"
You do realize that in almost every show/movie/game about Zombies, Zombies don't actually exist in their cultural media. No one has ever even thought of the concept let alone even see one. That's why they're not as knowledgeable as us. I thought that was obvious. Besides, if you haven't noticed yet, no one in the show has even uttered the word "Zombie." That's because in their universe, Zombies never existed.
The "not calling zombies zombies" is just a trope. They do it in Shaun of the Dead for example.
I've read the comics yet I'm still equally suprised by a lot of the content they're using i.e that tank scene and a lot of stuff this episode was not in the comics.
So if you really want to go ahead.
Also who said the zombies weren't acting realistically, they're zombies for gods sake not to mention if you haven't been paying attention this series doesn't use the normal zombie cliches it's more inventive therefore zombies might not act to how you're used too i.e the fact you can smear blood all over yourself and hide from them, also they seem to remember bare basic memories (morgan's wife returning to their house), also some are able to move faster then others (likely based on how broken down they're as a corpse) and it appears they don't have much vision perception and depend a lot on sound. Also some seem more intelligent then others i.e one attempted to climb the ladder while all the other did nothing, another also smashed the shops class with a stone.
For all the people still whining about the tank, god knows why such a tiny detail has been such a huge focus, firstly the tank as it has been pointed out is a Cheiftan which is 15 years old and from what I've heard bloddy insanely hard to operate. Plus who knows what the condition of the tank is? Anyone assume it could be broken? But seriously lets not focus on it and move on..
What is all the talk about the start scene with him and in a coma, he probably knew they were zombies but thats besides the point, he saw weird walking corspy hand in that the room and that rotting corpse, he also had no weapons so of course hes just going to try to get the fuck outta there, whats all this talk about weapons and gun he had nothing at that point.
Give the series a chance you can't expect the most epic crap ever in the first episode (not that it wasn't bloddy good anyway) but most of that was character development which I happily welcome, from here on out things are only going to get better and the last episode of the season 22 will probably be insanely awesome.
i didn't say they 'weren't like zombies' i said they weren't convincingly acted and i DIDN'T LIKE the sounds they made, not that the sounds didn't sound like zombies

what is that nickname they call them in this show? geeks? why?
Because they're all slow, decaying and try to grab passing by women
Who wouldn't try to grab passing by women? :v:
That guy who was Left 2 Die (see what I did there), kinda reminded me of Francis.
The only thing i hate about The Walking Dead is, they are just zombies. Typical zombie movie. It would be pretty sick if it was something like a rage virus, and that the infected could run. Just like in 28 Weeks/Days Later. It would be more exciting.
What the fuck. Why do everyone say it's a dumb cliffhanger? [sp]They all obviously drive to the safeplace. If they wanted you not to know anything they would have ended the episode right after they have left with the van in the city, so you don't know what will happen to Glenn.[/sp]
I'm watching the first episode. This is creepy as shit.

That's speculation, it's not obvious at all because all you see is the survivors get in the truck and drive, then you see Glenn driving down the empty road. THAT'S IT.
Kudos to Frank Darabont for being able to creep me out with zombies again.
Only thing that annoyed me was that you could easily see that the zombie extras tried to walk correctly, while trying to make serious faces. It just annoyed me because it looked like some of them tried to focus really hard.

But it is the same road which Rick came from. It is probably the same way you take to get to the safeplace as well, because if you remember from the first episode Rick was transmitting his voice over the radio when he was on the highway and the people at the safeplace were asking themselves if they should warn him about the city. They would never consider that if they were too far away from the highway.
Actually nevermind, I forgot that Rick came in by horse. He was at highway 85 when he was driving and he was a long way from the city by the looks of that too.
I didn't understand the whole zombie guts all over to mimic the smell of the other zombies.
He had a fucking grenade, couldn't he like throw it off the building and watching zombies follow the sound of the explosion?
Or just simply drop the grenade in the middle of the zombies trying to break in through the glass doors?
He didn't get to use his fucking grenade which he found from the tank!

I never really pay attention to the zombie masses. They all seem believable, and this time they are a bit different. I recall seeing some black skinned zombie at the alleyway down the ladders who didn't even seem to have too much zombie make-up, seemed normal. I don't mind though.
Good series altogether.
The episode had a few extremely silly moments such as the zombie guts thing, zombie in the sewers, and the extremely stereotypical black guy and racist guy.
Not exactly up to par with the quality of other AMC shows but it was still quite good.
Black dude tripped on a box of tools, black hater Francis is gonna take revenge on them when he finds them

I don't see it that way..
Rational Francis would just try to cut through the chain and make a run for it and forget about the others.
No I think there may be a small possibility of him finding the other survivors.
Finished watching the second episode, AWESOME. But fucking hell, Ricks cop buddy fucks his wife. GOD DAMN IT!
Finished watching the second episode, AWESOME. But fucking hell, Ricks cop buddy fucks his wife. GOD DAMN IT!
Definitely needed that scene, you don't see that scene in the comics at all it's just mentioned alot later on but for TV it's kinda required.
The tv show is very different so far but as long as the main plot points are still there everything that has happened/will happen will have consequences so watch for the little things.

Zombies are often referred to as ghouls.
So, you'll get a lot of nicknames for them for the same reason soldiers call the enemy by nicknames ("hadji" for example). In these cases nicknames dehumanize and/or mystify the threat. As for zombies, calling them nicknames other than zombies allow the people fighting them to not face the horrific reality of the zombie.
So instead of ghouls, they call them "Gs" or "Geeks."
Instead of Zombie they'll call them "Z" or "Zed" or "Zack."
Now I know that this will come out near the bottom of the thread, and most won't read it (I though TOS for FP was to read the entire thread before posting?), but hope it is useful for the few who do read it.
At the risk of not reading any spoilers or unwanted information that was posted on the past few pages, can someone let me know if they will be reshowing the second episode sometime this week? I didn't get a chance to catch it on Sunday.
Why do they call zombies "geeks"?
Eh? I could swear they were calling them "dicks".
Seriously.
Just watched the first episode, I wanna watch the second :frown:!!!
