Zombies are often referred to as ghouls. So, you'll get a lot of nicknames for them for the same reason soldiers call the enemy by nicknames ("hadji" for example). In these cases nicknames dehumanize and/or mystify the threat. As for zombies, calling them nicknames other than zombies allow the people fighting them to not face the horrific reality of the zombie. So instead of ghouls, they call them "Gs" or "Geeks." Instead of Zombie they'll call them "Z" or "Zed" or "Zack." Now I know that this will come out near the bottom of the thread, and most won't read it (I though TOS for FP was to read the entire thread before posting?), but hope it is useful for the few who do read it.
Actually, most zombie media never uses the word z-word.
Actually, most zombie media never uses the word z-word.
i.e. "walkers" in this one
I watched the two series that are out and its awesome i saw that chick from prison break. So this better get a 3-6 season :D
I have never read the comics, but I think i might pick them up now.
I hope they pick up the terminology from the comics actually, as far as I remember it's Rick that comes up with the "Roamers" and "Lurkers" names after observing the hordes for awhile. Roamers being zombies that constantly move about searching for food and Lurkers being zombies that just sit or stand in one place untill they see/hear food near them.
And interestingly, hordes aren't name hordes, I was quite happy with the term herd.
second episode was much better than the first will keep watching i liked how the car alarm went to the beat of the music
You better keep watching, the more ratings the better, I want this show to last. [editline]9th November 2010[/editline]
And interestingly, hordes aren't name hordes, I was quite happy with the term herd.
They don't call them zombies or anything like that either, they're called biters, walkers, etc.
i.e. "walkers" in this one
Walkers, Zeds, ZedHeads, Whiskey Deltas, Geeks, Zacks (there's a few more but I can't remember them right now)
Luv this Show!
You better keep watching, the more ratings the better, I want this show to last.
He probably doesn't watch it on a TV channel so he doesn't count, he's null, like me. NULLL
I laughed when it seemed like the only thing that saved his ass while he was in a coma was the gurney in front of his door at the hospital.
I laughed when it seemed like the only thing that saved his ass while he was in a coma was the gurney in front of his door at the hospital.
Yeah that was kinda stupid.
Not really, no one just entered his room. He was probably the only comatose patient in the hospital. The zombies in TWD don't really sense people, they follow smell and especially sound. They probably followed the escaping people out of the hospital.

When he was in the hospital (in a coma) his heart rate was much lower and he generally didn't make any noises considering he was stuck there. The hospital running for their lives and screaming would have drowned out any possibility of them sensing him.

The Rage infected also had a VERY good sense of smell, so the only reason he survived was because he had been comatose, so he hadn't taken any deodorant etc.
This movie is so politically correct. It has all races in it, whites, africans, indians, asians.
It's not a movie and really, don't you think there'd be survivors of every race?
It's not a movie and really, don't you think there'd be survivors of every race?
Racist Francis would disagree.
Wait, that fatish black guy is Tyrone? I remember him being a bulky, strong motherfucker in the comics.
that's supposed to be tyrone? bullshit, they don't meet him until [sp]the camp is compromised[/sp]
The current fat guy is called T-Dog.
The current fat guy is called T-Dog.
Oh, okay. I thought I heard them call him Tyrone, but I wasn't sure.
Made me chuckle a few times.
i'm sort of glad that they're changing things up from the comic otherwise it'll be too predictable. i still hate the fact that andrea is some old lady rather than a college student.
Is it me or are the Walkers faster when they're in a herd?
*herd

[sp]She's still really young for Dale.[/sp]
Its just a tank, probably got it from a collector or something, getting US military equipment involved in a production usually means having to promote the military through the show positively, like they did in Transformers for example, something the shows producers would probably want to avoid given the very bleak outlook they are setting up here.
There are businesses dedicated to renting out vehicles for shooting movies. Modern US Military vehicles being chief of them.
