I thought of that too. I believe he still has it, and my guess is it will eventually come in handy.
So what I take from that final scene, Merle lured the zombies back to the camp, and I presume disabled the traps around the camp as revenge? They had wires with cans tied to them as alarms didn't they? Which is why there were zombies everywhere.
So after this, Carl should be getting a lot more attention hopefully. I want to see some action from that kid to see if his actor will be good, or piss me off later in the series.

I thought Merle may have led them back to the camp, too. It doesn't make sense for such a large group to randomly show up for no reason.

No because remember last episode I think, there was one zombie eating a deer. Then they said the zombies are getting hungry and are going deeper into the mountains in search of food.

Watch the encore. It's a pretty great episode. Best so far. Blends a lot of action and some intense drama towards the end.
