If you liked the show then you will love the comics. Have to warn you though, you'll be disappointed when you run out of issues to read. I wouldn't buy the books, they're more expensive with not much of a benefit. You get a hardcover, I think it includes each individual issue's cover, and bonus content whenever there happens to be any. You can go with the compendium like Pops said, you get way more for your money. I'm pretty OCD and wanted all the comics in one format. I'm not gonna wait for 48 issues to come out each time I want to read more, so I decided to go with the Volumes.
Already bought the book, I didn't have enough in my bank for the full #1-#48 thing, I knew it was a better idea but I kinda just wanted something to read.
The writers would be dumb not to implement the Governor. A major antagonist like him would make the series much better, if it isn't good already.
Book arrived (free one day delivery, <3 amazon) and I like it already, definitely ordering more.
Are the books or comics worth buying? I only saw the TV show first and I absolutely hated it.
It was a good thing they fired the writers.
The comics are so superior that it's not even funny.

The show was really far off of the comic series.
I would recommend the comics if you have to choose between the show and comics. If you have the money they are worth buying.

Also, the excuse that we'd know everything that happens is stupid.
There are so many people that haven't actually read the comics and only got into it because it has zombies.
Besides, they chose bad actors and actresses for the roles and screwed with the pacing with that awful CDC subplot that was extraordinarily pointless.
And the writing was so hammy that it ruined just about every dramatic moment in the show.
I hate to tell you this but, they botched the show royally.
The first episode was ace and then it just went down hill from there.
Now that they've fired the writers, the show might be better when it returns and I'm hoping it is because I was hyped beyond belief for it when I first heard that it was being made.

The most interesting characters disappeared halfway through the series, and the doctor in the end goes Al Gore / misanthropist in the end blatantly ripping on the usage of fossil fuels and babbling about how overpopulated the world was anyway, nearly killing the surviving cast over grief of killing his own wife.
If you think this was a good show, you need to open up a book once in a while. TV needs better writers damn it. The writers weren't even subtle about their views, they just threw them out there and it only made it look even less professional.

I'd give the show more time. It's too early and the show hasn't really explored the theme of moral conflict yet, which is what the comics are centered on. As the story in the comics went on, it became less and less about the zombies and more about the humans and what moral choices they had to make in their situation. Sure, the tv show might deviate plotwise, but once it incorporates that main theme, I'm sure it'll turn into a great show.
Just watched all 6 episodes. I am in love with this show.
