Thinking more about it.. assuming John Hurt counts isn't the next Doctor the 'last' Doctor?
Yep. But apparently by the end of the 50th he's [sp]forgiven and erased[/sp]
I can see this working out quite well. [thumb]http://marlamin.com/u/2013-08-02_00-30-2614565061.jpg[/thumb]
Thinking more about it.. assuming John Hurt counts isn't the next Doctor the 'last' Doctor?
Moffat will find a way around that
The people that filmed Matts interview last time placed bets on him the days leading up to his reveal. There's been nout on O'Dowd. If "100 people minimum" were told it was him this morning, surely the bets would've reflected this. Nobody at BBC can keep a secret to save their life.
Roy as The Doctor, that could be um, odd
They can't cast him and expect people to take him seriously. If any machine/device goes wrong at all in the show, people will just think "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" and chuckle to themselves. It won't be him. It just wouldn't be wise.
Outpost Skaro has joined in. The press release tonight is apparently "HUGE" but they've signed an NDA. it includes quotes from Moffat and Matt. They agree it's worth waiting for.
Moffat will find a way around that
Yeah but when it happens they'll probably have to spend like a series working around it.
Eh, last time there was controversy around it so I wouldn't be surprised if there was extra measures taken to stop that happening this time.
Yeah there is no interview this time. It's revealed live instead. Big studio audience. A group of celebrity fans. People involved with the show. And a LIVE interview. The next Doctor is not an unknown. Will be a very familiar face.
Dan I don't understand your obsession with spoilers. I see sort of, but I'd so much rather wait.
Press release is probably going to announce the live announcement special on Sunday anyways?
So there's going to be a midnight Doctor Who announcement today? Are they just announcing the 12th Doctor reveal on sunday or something extra?
I hope it's something extra like a trailer or something. Or even the announcement that they will show a trailer. I mean pretty much everyone knows at this point so yeah.
Just announcing the live show. But apparently it's very big.
Midnight as in 10 minutes from now?
I watched I'm Alan Partridge to pass the time. it worked.
What's happening?
What's happening?
BBC announcing the announcement of the Next Doctor. EDIT: Yeah, that was all. Everyone go home. See you sunday.
Widely regarded as one of the most hotly contested roles in British television, the show's host Zoe Ball will unveil the 12th Doctor in the first ever interview in front of a live studio audience set against the backdrop of a swirling vortex, amongst Daleks and the TARDIS. The half hour show will include live special guests, Doctors old and new, as well as companions and celebrity fans. Excitement will reach fever pitch as they speculate and recall their favourites, plus feature clips and moments from across the show's 50 year history. Current Doctor Matt Smith and lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat will both give interviews about one of the biggest roles in TV and set out just what it takes to be the Doctor. Steven Moffat says: “The decision is made and the time has come to reveal who’s taking over the TARDIS. For the last of the Time Lords, the clock is striking twelve.” Charlotte Moore, Controller BBC One says: “BBC One is the home of big live events and this special live show is the perfect way to reveal the identity of the next Doctor and share it with the nation. The Doctor is a truly iconic role and I’m more than excited about the booking” Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning says: “We can't wait to unveil the next Doctor with everyone live on BBC1 on Sunday night. Amongst all the speculation and betting, there has been lots of fun and intrigue at work as we've been using the codename Houdini as a decoy! It’s the biggest secret in showbiz, even those working with the new Doctor on other projects at the moment have no idea they are in the presence of the 12th incarnation.” Keep up to date with all the latest news about the show and special guests as we build to the big climax over the next few days and follow www.facebook.com/BBCOne, @ BBCOne and @bbcdoctorwho and bbc.co.uk/doctorwho The special live show is made by BBC Entertainment and Events for BBC One, Guy Freeman is Executive producer and Pinki Chambers is Executive Commissioning Editor.
Just had the rather depressing thought that none of The Doctors who will be in the 50th, will still be around when we sit down to watch the 100th. Unless they're incredibly old. Can you imagine 10/11 NOT being hyperactive? The 50th is probably the last time we'll see David being his usual hyperactive 10th Doctor. By the time The 60th roles around he'll be 52. His performance in The Specials was already a lot slower and less energetic than when he started. He's already said his performance in the 50th is slightly different and more toned down. I can't help but feel there will be some disappointment from The Tennant Fangirls when they see their older slightly cuddlier Tenth Doctor doing considerably less (if any at all) "YES!" and "AAHAAA!" while jumping and skipping around. Actually there will always be disappointment from Tennant fangirls. A lot have already hyped up The Tennant years to way more than they ever were. They'll either watch the Special and realise Matt is actually very good, or blame Moffat for The Tenth Doctor being different and use it as an example of his crap writing. Can't wait.
Lol announcing the guests specially!?
An announcement for an announcement. Wow, this is redundant.
It's only meh since it was leaked before-hand. I'm sure for people that don't keep up with this stuff it's a real surprise.
Best midnight announcement ever. No not really, it would've worked better though if it hadn't leaked. But oh well, Sunday is going to be awesome.
I think you're all missing the fact that WE'LL KNOW WHO TWELVE IS ON FUCKING SUNDAY FUCK ME YES YES YES
Well I'm excited either way. [editline]2nd August 2013[/editline] hope it's clarkson
They have a little trailer and everything. Woo. Night.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01dlmj4 thanks for the lights show bbc it'd be really funny if they made the next doctor the announcer for the trailer and nobody realized
Who was the announcer, sounded like Chris [editline]1st August 2013[/editline] O'Dowd not Eccleston
I dunno about Chris O'Dowd as the Doctor. Really, I don't have an opinion on any actor playing the next Doctor. Whoever it is, I'll reserve judgement until I actually see them as the Doctor. I think I said something similar a while back, but hey, my opinion on that hasn't changed. I mean, if O'Dowd is the next Doctor, it's just gonna be IT crowd joke after IT crowd joke in the newspapers and everything, but to be honest, I wasn't sold on David or Matt when I first saw them, and they were brilliant, so whatever. I think something ridiculously different would work for Doctor Who anyway. Yo, where are those audition script things from a few days / weeks / whatever back? How do they sound in an Irish accent?
