Peter Capaldi used to write aggressive letters to Doctor Who fans, and show off and try to be a bigger Doctor Who fan than everybody else. He wanted to be head of The Doctor Who Fan Club. He annoyed the shit out of Keith Miller (who was head of the fanclub) who declared him an arch nemesis and has been writing books about how much he hates him ever since.

It could be (given how secretive this is and how few people the BBC want involved until after tonight) that the new Doc's photo is from a publicity shot that he's done for another role. I did a bit of image googling with some of the names we've discussed above, keeping an eye out for the specific shape of the light on the shoulder but nothing so far. I don't have the time or patience to do it properly, but it might be worthwhile!

Just somebody cut the shoulder out into a separate image and search for the image. It's likely some BBC lacky just throwing some shit together. It's probably Capaldi or Tennant.

Somebody on GB who very occasionally posts spoiler says it's worth putting a lot of money on Capaldi for reasons they're not at liberty to share. Personally I've given up on hope of Capaldi
