I replied to this tweet 'Aren't you only in for the 50th? Did you just spoil something? :D' and then minutes later the tweet was deleted.
Indeed. There was a reputable news outlet (can't remember which) that said Hurt was going to guest all the way through Series 8. We dismissed it as a mistake on their part.
But now..
Maybe series 8 will be a series completely focused on the time war. :v:
EDIT: Or the John Hurt Doctor redeeming himself/obtaining 'The Moment'.
I don't know. I'm still hoping that it was just a mistake by the news outlet, a mistake by whoever tweets for Hurt, and a false rumour from OS.
I don't want Capaldi overshadowed by another Doctor in his first series.
Unless wibbly wobbly complicated happens and The Hurt Doctor becomes an Alt-Doctor. The 9th Doctor that could've been. One that never healed after meeting Rose and became gradually evil.
The Valeyard.
We've got a Timelord enemy who isn't The Master. It's The Doctor himself. Get him to be played by the best of British actors who can't play The Doctor due to be too old or too big.
daft idea: series 8 stars the hurt doctor and capaldi doesn't actually start until 2015
I don't think Capaldi would be over shadowed. If anything it would make it even better.
Think about it, he would be born into a quest already. No time to explain no time to wait just get up and go. He'd be doing stories before he'd even figured out who he was and it would lead to a series based on not just the Hurt Doctor but also a series of discovery of who he was. It could be like having a 'new Doctor's first episode' over an entire series while also learning a bit more about an older Doctor.
EDIT:
daft idea: series 8 stars the hurt doctor and capaldi doesn't actually start until 2015
Actually.. this is a great idea (sort of).
It would suck waiting for Capaldi don't get me wrong but think about this. It's a surprise regeneration. Matt starts regenerating and everyone in the country is expecting Capaldi to pop out - suddenly it's Hurt.
Nah. Hurt is just too old for it. The filming schedule is famous for being gruelling for The Doctor and companion. Up at inconsistent hours in the freezing cold. Standing around doing nothing most of the time.

It wouldn't matter the hours would still be insane. A 73 year old man isn't built for that. It would be totally unfair saying "Here's Peters first season as The Doctor you'll learn all about him but first... JOHN HURT IS THE DOCTOR LOOK AT JOHN HURT HE'S THE DOCTOR. HE'S HANGING OUT WITH US and he's The Doctor."
It's a recurring role anyway. It will be a River type role according to the rumours.
I just don't buy it. I think he will be erased at the end of the special and we won't see him again.
I also firmly believe Matt will do at least 3/4 of his Christmas special before becoming Capaldi.

Would like this
Well he directed The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poison Sky, The Power of Three and Cold War so you can tell from that.
He directed half of Jekyll too, oh my God I loved that show, so many props to you, my friend
FYI, I loved the direction of The Power of Three. But as a classic Series 7 "A Few Mis-Steps At the End" story - I have little desire to watch it again for a while.
Which unfortunately goes for much of Series 7 - despite enjoying them all on the first watch. Asylum, Snowmen & NOTD are probably excluded from the untouchables list. Hide could have been, but the last minute balls-up at the end completely destroyed that episode as far as I'm concerned.
So Moffat got the start, middle and end right.
Yeah those three listed above are the only three I've rewatched this series.
I've watched Bells a few more times. I really liked the direction and overall feel of the episode.
Bah-bah-bah-ba-ba-ba-ba... DUN-DUN-DUUUUUUN-DUUN.
I left Bells off that list. Of course Bells is on that list. Of course Clara's third debut is on that list.
I remember Dan telling us that the episode's scenes would all have to be like 30 seconds in length to fit it all in - and it would all be a rushed mess. What with the San Francisco and Tokyo trips. Not to mention The Doctor's plane ride. :v:
But it was a very enjoyable start to the second half. Aided by some fine pieces from Gold and superb directing. When watching 'Rose' recently, it was good to think that The Doctor and Companion going across Westminster Bridge wasn't going to get old, eight years down the line.
I think I've watched The Doctor's ride to the Shard & Clara's new-new introduction to the TARDIS too many times.
"Is this the plane? The actual plane?!"
Ah I forgot about Bells too! I was certain it would be a mess. It was the best nu-series companion debut in my eyes.
Unless you're counting Asylum as Claras introduction.

Every year the stories I'm most excited for become the most disappointing and the ones I dread end up being the best.
[editline]14th August 2013[/editline]
Still not over how much of a mess TARDIS was. Plays like a messy first draft made entirely so they had cool stuff to put in the trailers and marketing.
Disagreed on Bells, but agreed on Journey - that was by far the episode I was most looking forward to, but it ended up being so disappointing.
The best intro for a new series companion is The Eleventh Hour hands down.
Literally does not put a foot wrong in my eyes. Bells and Asylum can go suck it

OH MY GOD. Just found out Michael from Alan Partridge was in Doctor Who. My life is officially 100 times better.
Now I actually have a reason to watch Love and Monsters.

They're being blocked from viewing in North America.

Well, I'm definitely going to this.
I smell a potential thread meet. It's around the 50th too.
The weekend before the 50th.
Probably the weekend the Mcgann prequel will drop. Wonder if it will be online before or after CM.

The Mcgann prequel? I recently bought the tv movie with him in it and eric roberts as the master, what's the story with this if you wouldn't mind explaining, it seems interesting to me.

Many people think there's going to be a prequel to the 50th anniversary showing [sp]how the 8th Doctor regenerated into John Hurt's Doctor[/sp].
I actually just watch the 1996 movie
I love how 7 just straight up gets shot
