This is actually an okay theory.
It's been suspected that 12 may have a role (or at least appear) in the 50th for quite a while (even before Matt announced he was leaving, I believe).
omg Iain Glenn is going to CM?

i'm sure he's totally going to appreciate the charm and originality of that
Are you fucking kidding me. I'm getting PMs from people who think I'm somebody else because we have the same avatar. Haha hasn't this gone far enough? :tinfoil:

Makeup artist hints on Twitter she's already done some filming for Doctor Who. Apparently in an iconic location. Doctor was present.
The general fan consensus is: [sp]they filmed the regeneration scene in Big Ben[/sp]
No idea where they pulled that tibbit of speculation from but I can imagine that tying in nicely with the opening of Eleventh Hour? [sp]Newly regenerated 11th Doctor flies overhead on TARDIS moments after regenerating (eleventh hour). As he narrowly dodges Big Ben the clock face lights up a golden colour as inside 11 regenerates into 12 as the clock strikes 12[/sp]
He would have to wait 3 hours.
Crush my dreams

My god I love that picture. It's The Three Doctors.

Price is a bit too steep.

Uh. Can you imagine if the rumours are true and the 50th was going to be Nine-Ten-Eleven not Hurt.
I'd cry.

Also on the missing episode scandal: The guy who writes all the stories for Outpost Skaro says they've received press releases in the past and been told to cancel them shortly after.
The missing episodes being found was originally intended to be announced in March (when Doctor Who Online and Blogtor Who said an amazing classic-series related announcement was coming which never did) and again in July. Apparently there's 5 big announcements coming in November.
So I was going through a TV magazine and found an advert for this.
That is ADORABLE.

The Doctor Who Christmas readthrough was lovely - and rather moving. Matt Smith has been a terrific Doctor, but he's also a true gentleman.
Also £250
At some point someone with a Capaldi avatar is gonna start talking to themselves and we're not even gonna notice
Just randomly came into this thread and saw the thing about the missing episodes, lots of numbers going about, internet seems to think 90 or so episodes could of been recovered. It would be amazing if it's true but I'm throwing extreme caution to the wind here, could be less or none at all.
The guy who runs Outpost Skaro didn't think it was 90 either. In the last week he has changed his tune. He says that to his surprise he's seen proof the 90+ rumour is true.
However pretty much all of them are episodes that were never destroyed or have already been returned. There's a lot of doubles too. Then there's a few odd episodes like Evil of the Daleks Episode 1. Tenth Planet Episode 4.
The only stories that are completed by the find are: Marco Polo, Enemy of the World, and Web of Fear. Which is being referred to as "MEW" on the internet. Last night there were reports MEW has become EW. Apparently Marco Polo is a bit fucked. But things are back on track again and it's MEW once again.
The find is really hard to negotiate. Apparently there's an archive in Hong Kong so un-orgaised they were using a rare lost Jackie Chan film as a door stop. That's what an inside said when he was asked about the rumours.
The press releases have been distributed numerous times and then cancelled at the last minute. Now they're hoping to announce a release in November as part of the anniversary count-down. But things only started progressing at a steady speed in the last few weeks.
It's not just Doctor Who fans these rumours are floating around with. Lots of episodes of other things have been found too: Morcambe and Wise, Dad's Army, The Sky at Night, and more. At one point the official page for Dad's Army actually said episodes had been found and more info was "coming soon". It never came.
[editline]5th September 2013[/editline]
To be honest the speed of how quickly things change could mean anything. Next week they could decide all the episodes are too damaged to ever release. Things change lightning quick.
For example. Earlier in the year the rumour was Christoper Eccleston met with Moffat to discuss the 50th. A week later the rumour said Chris had been given contracts and was interested in signing. A few hours later the rumour said there was problems with the contract. Few hours after that came the news Chris had dropped out. A day after that came the rumour John Hurt would be playing a 9th Doctor to fill in for Chris. Then about 3 weeks after that came rumours they had filmed new scenes for The Name of the Doctor to fit John Hurt revelation in. The original end revel
This time next week we could be saying how 90 episodes were returned but only one is in working order. And William Hartnell will be played by John Hurt.
Getting copies of something that has already be returned isn't such a bad thing if they turn out to be better quality ones than the existing copies.
Yeah apparently a few were actually.
Expect more DVD re-releases of stories already out there BUT NOW IN BETTER QUALITY. Love to see how they handle The Tenth Planet if it really has been returned..

It wouldn't surprise me if they show it on TV before they release it on DVD considering the interest in the serial.
I do wonder one thing though, do 405 line era Doctor Who episodes have to be upscaled to the more modern 576i?
I'm not too wise on the restoration process. All I know is they remove the flim grain, dust on the film, and any jumps or static. It's a really arduous process. It's why the DVD's look so nice compared to some of the streams and torrents you can find online. The vast majority of those online versions seem to ripped from original VHS recordings.
If you can navigate the site you might find something about upscaling and shit, some episodes are occasionally shown on TV http://www.restoration-team.co.uk/
If they are holding back press releases to make November bomb-tastic with DW material, it's a little annoying. I mean, yes, November's gotta be big, but the anniversary and all the specials that come with it should be able to support it. Wouldn't it be just as well to build up hype with big Who news during the run-up to November?

Considering how much crap they are rumoured to have which all needs to be sorted through, cleaned and digitised it's no wonder they're waiting until November. Problem is they can say "Oh we've got X Doctor Who episode/s recovered" before they're examined because it might turn out that it's mislabelled and something completely different or it's completely unusable.
As the people incharge of missing episodes keep hinting: there's a difference between "found" and "have".
All rumours suggest it's a very delicate situation. Nobody is really sure on details but it could be any number of things. It could be whoever owns them doesn't want to go public so doesn't want to give them up. At one point somebody who is incharge of locating missing episodes warned fans to stop talking about it as it could "scare people off".
You also run into problems with actors unions and certain rights. What if a supporting actor doesn't want it to be shown? What if a director wants a big pay out? What if the people who have it want a big pay out? What if the films are all damaged beyond repair?
Can you imagine if they announced "WE FOUND EPISODES" and then a few days later had to come back and say "Oh... erm... nevermind you can't see them sorry".
That's why two press releases have been cancelled. Apparently the people behind it want to announce it in November as it would be special and really the best time to announce it. So they're rushing everything and putting in extra hours to do that. But at the moment that's just the dream. If it wasn't the fact it was the 50th this year they'd probably announce it a bit later.
[editline]5th September 2013[/editline]
Also Outpost Skaro gave away another series 8 detail. It's not plot specific or anything so don't worry about spoilers, but I'm putting it in tags anyway: [sp]Sonic screwdriver is getting an "Old school" redesign[/sp]. Bet that's a Capaldi request, the old fanboy.
Unpopular opinion: Never liked the current design.

Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what happens.
The 60's dude. What contracts? Paul McCartney only got the rights to The Beatles music this year, people just didn't think of stuff like that back then.
Once the episode aired they never planned to air it again. There was no such thing as home release or re-runs. No need to get anybody to sign anything.
I guess, but I still really doubt it's to do with paying people.

A reminder: I'm doing the first of my 50th anniversary run-up streams tonight (it's scheduled for Sunday, but I'm busy all weekend).
It'll be starting at 9:00 PM GMT (or 4:00 PM EST), so you can still vote for your favourite First Doctor serial here:

As it stands, I'll be streaming The Daleks, but there's still time for the vote to swing one way or the other.
Why is Karen beautiful and famous?! How am I supposed to have a chance with her like this. FFS.
