it begins
Stay up for an hour to see what was already announced? Or go to bed and miss something new?
I'd be pissed if I waited up for nothing, but missing a trailer is equally bad.
[editline]10th September 2013[/editline]
There's nothing in that poster that says anything for anything before 2005. Even Bad Wolf is in there. A story arc from 8 years ago that would be forgotten if it wasn't for Tumblr.
Is it real? I really don't want Bad Wolf to be any part of the 50th after it was hammered into the Series 4 finale for no real logical reason. But then full body shot of Hurt and Tennant-new-hair makes me think it's real.
It's a poster for a cool story. But just nothing about it is very 50th.

Bad Wolf is either a red herring or another classic Rose warning.
[sp]In this case, warning that 'The Moment' is coming ; ) [/sp]
It's getting people excited and happy. Let the people be excited and happy. It's the first time I've seen excited and happy about the 50th.
Of course it's a poster for a cool story. It's the poster for the story. Not a poster for "The 50th Anniversary Celebrations of Doctor Who." If the 50th had eight Doctors in starring roles, it might look different :v: There will be enough of that out there come November.
Looks like the poster for a 50th anniversary story to me. :D
Okay if you say so dude. It's probably just me.
But to me it looks like a poster for a really cool multi-doctor story and a great guest spot by John Hurt. You could completely erase everything pre-2005 from existence and that poster would still work- while the on set photos and officially announced stuff suggests there's a lot of stuff from the past returning too.
I have no doubt the special itself will celebrate 50 years of Who, I'm not one of those people. But the poster itself really does look like a 10 year anniversary thing without Eccleston.

That's probably the point - for the poster to work without pre-2005 material. We know there are some nice nods in the special itself, so it doesn't really matter.
Just noticed the red sonic in John's hand.
That IS cool.
Makes me excited for Capaldi's.
Tennant looks old :(
Tennant looks old :(
well, he has aged but makeup is a thing.

I kinda want him to have a dark purple sonic screwdriver, sort of ultraviolet-esque. I think it could be cool.
[editline]10th September 2013[/editline]
That is, unless he's the kind of Doctor that doesn't rely on the screwdriver as much. I mean, I guess he could sort of have one handy every now and then, but it would be pretty cool to see him using his brain more than the sonic.
All this stuff gets 'leaked' yet a trailer from a packed hall remained under wraps :v:

Now THAT'S more like it.
See I can't imagine Moffat would replace Chris' role with a new Doctor for nothing. He says it's exciting having a new Doctor in an anniversary like it was with The Five Doctors (the recast did technically mean it's a new Doctor) but I don't doubt for a second he would accept it as a replacement.
If the Hurt role was for Chris originally, then I'm willing to bet Chris still appears in some capacity. Also as he wasn't replaced by a classic Doctor they must be involved in another way too!

See Outpost Skaro say he gets an "oldschool" one. Which makes me think it might be red and shaped more like the classic series.
I'm not spoiler-tagging that because every Doctor has their own screwdriver (even if the 9-10 change was minimal) so it's a given Capaldi would get a new one. I just hope it's not overused.
Tennant looks old :(
Aye. But he looks good for his age regardless.
He looks more huggable at least. I really like his hair.
Tenth Doctor is always so modern. Even after he's died.
Now we know this post is quite wordy but we wanted to let you know about ALL of the other things happening across the BBC to mark our very own #DoctorWho's 50th anniversary in November - and there's a lot - so here goes...
ON #BBCTWO:
- In a special one-off programme, Professor Brian Cox will try to answer the classic questions raised by the Doctor – can you really travel in time? Does extra-terrestrial life exist in our galaxy? And how do you build something as fantastical as the TARDIS?
-The Culture Show will present ‘Me, You and Doctor Who’ with lifelong fan Matthew Sweet exploring the cultural significance of the BBC’s longest running TV drama, arguing that it’s one of the most important cultural artefacts of modern Britain.
- BBC Two will then wrap up its coverage with the previously announced ‘An Adventure in Space and Time’ written by Mark Gatiss
ON BBC Three:
-'Doctor Who: Monsters and Villains Weekend’ will countdown to the top Doctor Who monster as voted for by you.
- 'Doctor Who: The Ultimate Guide’ will introduce those less familiar to the show to a wealth of archive material and act as a guide to all things Who.
- We also have one further exciting commission to be announced later this year which will see the celebrations finish with a bang.
ON #BBCFOUR:
- Audiences will be introduce audiences to the first Doctor, William Hartnell, with a special re-run of the first ever story, which marked the start of 50 years of history. The four episodes are being shown in a restored format, not previously broadcast in the UK.
There will also be programmes across #CBBC including two live #BluePeter specials.
ON BBC Radio 1:
- A documentary will look at 'Time Lord Rock (TROCK)' as a genre of music inspired by the Doctor and his journeys through space and time.
ON BBC Radio 2
- 'Who is the Doctor' will look at the lasting appeal of Doctor Who and ask how much of its continued success can be attributed to its basic formula.
- In ‘The Blagger’s Guide to Doctor Who’, David Quantick will give the iconic Doctor the Blagger’s treatment. He’ll be finding out the answers to questions such as why do Americans think Tom Baker is still Doctor Who? How many Doctors have there really been? Were the Daleks really named after an encyclopaedia?
- Finally, Graham Norton will be broadcasting his weekly Radio 2 show live (Saturday 23 November, 10am) from the Doctor Who Celebration in London.
For the lazy

I hope Alex has politely and respectfully chosen not to take part as he doesn't like the show and won't use it as an excuse to get on the radio. :v:
Also Norton is broadcasting live from the celebration? Why not Ross he's an actual fan? ...Oh yeah.
Though the thought of Ross and Tennant phoning the father of Peter Davison and shouting "HE HAD SEX WITH YOUR GWANDUGHTER" is amusing.
Yeah, I'm one of those people who can't look at the trailer without going "that could have been Chris"...
It's just cuz he was my first Doctor, you know? I got into the show because of him. Really feels like they're just shoving him aside. I really hope the special proves me wrong and he appears in some capacity- after all, Bad Wolf did start with his Doctor.
Chris turned it down - is the line. So no shoving him aside. We won't know for sure *what* - but it was turned down.

There will also be special content across the official website bbc.co.uk/doctorwho and on BBC iPlayer.
Oh wow all that hype stuff sounds pretty good. I wonder if ABC will show any scraps of all the hype BBC is doing. I have a feeling ABC News Radio or RadioNational might broadcast those Radio things, they always take stuff from BBC radio.
You know, the fact that the words 'Bad Wolf' are used in the 50th explains why the 10th Doctor was so scared of them at the end of series four.

did you skip series 1?
you skipped eccleston didn't you?

Or maybe because they're a phrase scattered across time by his previous companion to get his attention and she shouldn't be able to do it again as she was supposed to be sealed in another universe.
I'm going to guess the only reason 'Bad Wolf' is in the poster is because it's there to symbolise Rose in the marketing.
I'd say it's because even though she did it once, her omniscience did it in every time and situation required in a split second. Pretty sure it'll be a physical plot device, just like every time.
Anyone else get all happy when they saw that Tennant/Smith 50th anniversary poster? It's like my mind registered that this really is happening.
I just felt immediate sadness because Eccleston isn't in it.
Then got kind of hyped again.
Yeah I always pictured Eccles as Time War Doc and it just makes me sad seeing Hurt standing in the Gallifrey ruins.
The poster itself didn't really cause much emotional reaction at all really. The announcement that Tennant would be in it made me all giddy as hell. The on set pictures were exciting. The video of them together was exciting.
But the poster was just "eh, cool design". But it's just Daleks and Doctors which they've sold the hell out of already. Could've fit Rose or a Zygon in. Or QE1 or Kate Stewart. I'm sure there will be more like it closer to the time I guess.

Maybe I'm just mixing it up with someone else saying that it was overused?
EDIT: Also how was Eccleston the timewar Doctor? In the first episode he acted like he had regenerated recently - until John Hurt I was under the impression it was Paul McGann.
Radio 4 Extra add? Didn't see it originally.
Meanwhile, Radio 4 Extra travels back to 1963 with a three-hour special programme, Who Made Who?, to look at the world that inspired the television series. Doctor Who may have come from other times, but his roots were very much in the present of 1960s Britain. This distinctive programme combines audio from the archive, new interviews and extracts from audio versions of Doctor Who. Additionally, the station will broadcast readings and dramas featuring the great Doctor.
Also Davison's quote, has it been posted?
I've heard lots of rumours, none of which I'm allowed to tell you anything about. I'm privy to them actually, yes, I have got a copy of the script which has got my name embossed across it, so it's top secret, but there's other stuff, lots of other things that are going on that people should keep their eye open for around the 50th Anniversary Special!
Like his film :v:
That poster is AMAZING.
