Perhaps I'm not giving the classic series audience enough credit, but I was watching a Peter Davidson - Cyberman EP and thought, how did the audience of that time understand the plot, it's a bit complicated? Fans of the Matt Smith series would hate it as it doesn't feature a baby saving the day.
Ah yes, we were all extremely simple minded in those days
Australia has it's own anniversary synopsis. No spoiler tags. Just a link. Click at your own desire.
Ah yes, we were all extremely simple minded in those days
I wasn't born until 1988 so I wouldn't know, but the stories of the classic series are generally less in depth than the new series, this serial wasn't though and after all it was a children's show. So why did you dig up that post?
Fifty years ago today Donald Wilson (Head of Serials, BBC Drama Dept) wrote an angry memo to the editor of Radio Times. Wilson was annoyed and disappointed that Doctor Who was not going to be given the front cover, despite earlier promises that it would. Wilson was a very strong supporter of Doctor Who and his memo contains the tremendous line - "I myself believe that we have an absolute knock-out in this show and that there will be no question but that it will run and run." How right he was! Wilson of course famously objected to the idea of the Daleks, and tried to stop Verity Lambert from going ahead with Terry Nation's scripts. But the production team had nothing else to use so they carried on regardless. After the first couple of episodes of that story had been broadcast Wilson called Verity to his office. She expected to be told off for going against the wishes of the Head of Serials, but he praised her for making the show a hit and said that obviously she knew what she what she was doing and that he wouldn't interfere anymore!
Old, but that applause
I was just thinking, why hasn't the Doctor ever asked the Daleks what their plan was after taking over the universe?
I was just thinking, why hasn't the Doctor ever asked the Daleks what their plan was after taking over the universe?
'cos we'll get another episode with River in it saying "spoilers"
I was just thinking, why hasn't the Doctor ever asked the Daleks what their plan was after taking over the universe?
I'd imagine they'd turn on each other after taking it over, they can only feel hate after all.
That or with no more driving motive, they'd just shut down and the lifeforms would die in their armour.
FYI
Doctor Who stars David Tennant and Matt Smith will both be guests on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, November 22, it has been confirmed.
oh my my
RoboChimp I was around when the Peter Davison episodes were on, in fact at that time I was already an adult. I thought it amusing that you thought people wouldn't have understood the plots - why would you think that? But I didn't mean to offend you.

Only after I grew up the 6th doctor grew on me.

Been rewatching Skins recently. He's great in Sid's second series episode (3:03 in that video is one of my favourite moments)
Thought I should post this here. I did this watercolor painting of the Tardis, and was wondering if anyone was interested in buying any prints. If you're interested or just wondering about prices and sizes and stuff message me.
I probably wouldn't buy prints (no offense) but that's REAL good!

Because if so, amazing job! I mean yeah, amazing job regardless, but bonus points if. :v:
From the paddington link: Every time I see Capaldi in some sort of smart-looking outfit I'm going to assume it's his Doctor costume.

(If it wasn't for the swearing obviously).
In a weird way. I can totally see The Doctor in Sid's Dad. (If it wasn't for the swearing obviously).
Probably because it's the same face.
No I mean in the mannerisms, tone of voice, and that glint behind the eyes. He could play The Doctor just like Sid's dad in a Doctorish-outfit, without the swearing, and it'd be The Doctor. I could easily imagine The Doctor losing it at a companion or somebody who made an innocent mistake and then falling down the stairs as he makes his proud get-away. Even when he's shouting words for "EMPHASIS". Something else I could see The Doctor doing. In contrast, there's not much in Malcom Tucker that goes well into The Doctor despite having the same face. I think an easily annoyed Doctor who is a little out of touch and a bit of a grumpy old man could be very funny. Specially when he dials down and has those heartwarming moments. [editline]6th November 2013[/editline] Official Doctor Who website has added The Master to the Monsters page. A bit like the time they added GI before he returned in Bells of St John. There was already previous speculation/rumour that after the 50th [sp]Gallifrey is restored, and the Timelords give The Doctor a new set of lives. But the last time we saw The Master he went back to Gallifrey with the rest of the Timelords so surely if Gallifrey returns he does too? [/sp]

[editline]6th November 2013[/editline] Hey! John Simm. That's the fellow from Life on Mars!? That show was the shit yo!

Excellent, confirmation of another long-running rumour. GB leaves me with few surprises in my life.
Somebody somewhere will complain it cut into precious Atlantis time.
