The only doctor who episodes that I can think of to support the claim, "kids wouldn't understand", would be the 6th doctor's dickishness. Only after I grew up the 6th doctor grew on me.

Looks brilliant, I'd say the only problem is the top corner (top right of the door) as it should be following the same direction as the base, but it adds a quirkiness to it

Probably because it's the same face.
No I mean in the mannerisms, tone of voice, and that glint behind the eyes.
He could play The Doctor just like Sid's dad in a Doctorish-outfit, without the swearing, and it'd be The Doctor. I could easily imagine The Doctor losing it at a companion or somebody who made an innocent mistake and then falling down the stairs as he makes his proud get-away. Even when he's shouting words for "EMPHASIS". Something else I could see The Doctor doing. In contrast, there's not much in Malcom Tucker that goes well into The Doctor despite having the same face.
I think an easily annoyed Doctor who is a little out of touch and a bit of a grumpy old man could be very funny. Specially when he dials down and has those heartwarming moments.

There was already previous speculation/rumour that after the 50th [sp]Gallifrey is restored, and the Timelords give The Doctor a new set of lives.
