[sp] This thread is getting me way too hyped for the potential of an Eccleston regeneration [/sp]
I watched the minisode again. Then discovered the Adventure in Space and Time trailer. Then the Day of The Doctor Radio Trailer came on 5 Live in the other room. In another two hours, Brian Cox meets The Doctor! Doctor Who - everywhere!
I think we may have had something confirmed, read the last line
[sp]Q: Finally, running a show like Doctor Who is always going to be hard work… But how much fun was it? Bringing back the Eighth Doctor?
SM: Oh, it was a complete treat! It was always frustrating that we never got to see more of him! The completist in me… the ‘box set man’ in me wants every box ticked and I wanted every regeneration scene! And we get to see the Paul McGann Doctor regenerate into the John Hurt Doctor! I love regeneration episodes – there’s nothing more exciting! And in the anniversary year we get to see two regenerations… That’s pretty cool![/sp]

I think he's just referring to Matt's regeneration at christmas. Let's try not to get ahead of ourselves, folks. :v:

"Doctor Who will take over TV"
Isn't that what they said?
Speculation
[sp]Final shot, Hurt regenerating, flash of light, off camera you hear 'Fantastic'[/sp]
When is An Adventure in Space and Time being aired?
Rawr rawr... BBC ashamed... Moffat doesn't care... Rawr rawr... hardly see in the trailer... Rawr rawr...
Eat your words. Eat them all!

Nope. Fairly certain it's [sp]just archive[/sp]
I think it's ultimately why [sp]Chris said no. Because he didn't have a big part anyway[/sp]

I really hope I get this McGann interview. He was SO good in that clip.
reply to dan's spoilers
[sp]Trust me. If Chris had said yes he wouldn't have had a small part like that.[/sp]

Wait, didn't we hear multiple times that [sp]Chris had a big part, but he said no, and that's why Hurt is there?[/sp]
that minisode
OH MY GOSH
New Ident Interruption should be coming online.
Moffat numbering quote in full
Technically, if you really counted it, the David Tennant Doctor is two Doctors, on account of the Meta-Crisis Doctor… It’s not a matter of counting the regenerations, but of counting the faces of the Time Lord that calls himself the Doctor. There’s an anomaly Doctor slotted in somewhere, that’s all. In the script to The Day of the Doctor, Matt’s Doctor was called the Eleventh, and David’s was called the Tenth, so the numbering stays exactly the same – and we call Peter Capaldi the Twelfth Doctor.
[editline]14th November 2013[/editline]
I’ve been really, really quite careful about the numbering of the Doctors. He’s very specific, the John Hurt Doctor, that he doesn’t take the name of the Doctor. He doesn’t call himself that. He’s the same Time Lord, the same being as the Doctors either side of him, but he’s the one who says, ‘I’m not the Doctor.’ So the Eleventh Doctor is still the Eleventh Doctor, the Tenth Doctor is still the Tenth…
This line of the minisode is delivered so well.
Hey is it possible that the Valeyard is [sp]Meta-crisis Doctor? (David Tennant)[/sp]
[sp]I'm counting John Hurt as the real 9th incarnation and David Tennant as the 11th and 12th due to Meta-crisis (Journey's End)[/sp]
Brian Cox is annoying but can't resist The Science of Doctor Who on BBC 2
(MINISODE)
[sp]I've never seen the TV movie, so just judging on the Minisode I feel that McGann could have been an excellent doctor to have had bridge the gap between the classic and new series.
I really doubt we'll see more of him which is a downer[/sp]
[sp]There are always audio adventures. Everyone who listens to those adores him.[/sp]
reply to dan's spoilers
[sp]Trust me. If Chris had said yes he wouldn't have had a small part like that.[/sp]
Actually he would.
Basically here's how the Chris/Hurt thing really went down from what the sources have figured out. They all went batshit wrong:
[sp]-From the start Moffat was planning it only to be Tennant-Smith. As Tennant is the public favourite and Smith is current. It's present meets past.
-Hurt Doctor was always planned. From the start. The story hinges on him being a forgotten violent war-Doctor. It couldn't be accomplished with Chris. He's seemingly freshly regenerated in Rose and it would tarnish his Doctor by making him an utter dick. Infact Hurt Doctor is going to continue to have effects on the show judging by the latest batch of rumours.
-The rumour Chris was replaced by Hurt was a huge misunderstanding. The BBC didn't want it to leak that Hurt was The Doctor. So in all the details he was listed as "Omega". Hence being two rumours, one saying he was Omega and one saying Doctor. They nearly got away with it too but when the 50th started filming people started stealing script pages and shit. Then The Name of The Doctor leaked and it all came out. But it seemed some people assumed the reason Hurt went from Omega to Doctor was because Chris dropped out. Then after seeing he was the Timelord doctor they started rumours he was replacing Chris. Hurt was already involved before Chris was having his meetings. It really was a giant misunderstanding.
-So if it was always planned as a Tennant-Smith-Hurt thing, which everybody insists it was. It means Chris could only oh had a cameo or minor role. And as it's already leaking that he gets his regeneration scene, and it had already come out that it's archive footage, we can assume that Chris was originally going to have a SURPRISE CAMEO as Nine after the regeneration. But he obviously didn't see much point in it. Makes you wonder if other Doctors have surprise cameos.
-Also one more thing worth thinking about: Fish Doctor is getting no publicity from the BBC. Wasn't the excuse that the classic Doctors were at BBC studios because they were filming the Davison movie which was going to get full BBC backing? Then the rumour was they were at the studios under the guise of Davison's film to record stuff for the 50th. The rumour still seems more likely to me[/sp]

He's so fucking good. He really should've been The Doctor in 2005.

Moffat the completist. Only has one more regeneration left to fix.

They look like the coolest fucking band on the planet.
I think... I think McGann is my favourite. Seeing him in the modern-style was so... exhilarating.
Buzzcocks
Oh my! I didn't know this was going to be on
Jesus christ i wish paul mcgann stayed on as doctor
everything about the way he did it was just perfect
He actually looks better as The Doctor now than he did. At the age of 54.
Bodes well for 55 year old Capaldi. Also Tumblr is LOVING McGann.
Eh, I'm glad RTD chose to have a completely new Doctor for the reboot and not 8. If he had chosen 8, people would have had to go back and watch the TV movie, and then they would have to get into the whole "Who's the Master? What are Daleks? Cloister Bell, what??" and have to watch a bunch of classic episodes to get it.
With 9 they got a clean slate.
How it should have looked:

Can we just awkwardly edit Eccleston on top of everything?
The Day of the Eccleston.
Let it be done.

So Paul lied (I believe) about not being involved... Could this mean additional lying from other Doctors? What if it's all just really elaborate?
[sp]-From the start Moffat was planning it only to be Tennant-Smith. As Tennant is the public favourite and Smith is current. It's present meets past.[/sp]
[sp]The entire theory falls down from here. Moffat has a ton of ideas and plans before he starts actually writing. He will have had multiple variations drawn out in his head, most likely expecting Chris to say no (because of the way he left) and that's why that was the main plan. Same where he had plans for Tennant if he stayed, but expecting him to say no he had eleventh Doctor plans as the main ones. If Chris had joined up the story would accommodate that, and they almost certainly offered him a full role in it. Trust me on that.
I dunno where the 'Chris being replaced with Hurt' theory came from though, it probably would be the same as it is now but instead of Matt + David watching the War Doctor it'd be all three of them watching if he'd signed the contract.
Honestly, I'd always thought of McGann as the timewar Doctor before Hurt came along. I thought that due to the timewar McGann regenerated into Chris at the end after he used 'The Moment'.[/sp]

The full sized version isn't too bad: https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/1400509_694944377205135_867847836_o.jpg
