He felt he was being bullied on set by a director. A director who was struck off Who and never worked on it again, despite previously doing high profile episodes. Him and John didn't get on at all either. It was just awkward. But it's important to remember that the bad blood isn't what stopped him coming back. It was a mix of things. He had other work (Thor 2 reshoots) and his queries simply weren't responded to. All press interviews gave at the time give the impression he absolutely wanted to return "I really want to return to that character, I feel like I'm not done" was said early in the year and later he said "[when asked about the 50th special] I can't tell you anything or I'd have to shoot you *Big grin*". But there was a cock up in communication, Chris lost confidence, and he politely refused. It wasn't entirely Moffat (who often gets the blame). It was just a series of unfortunate circumstances. I'm sure Chris regrets not doing it, I'm sure members of the Cardiff team regret not dealing with it in a different way. But at the end of the day the special worked fine, Hurt was great, and the rewrite to accommodate for Chris dropping out has opened the show up to a rather unique opportunity to jump ahead to a story people have been waiting for forever. I hold on to hope that one day The Doctor of my childhood, who put a twinkle in my eye, who gave me confidence in school- will return. How better to celebrate 10 years than an adventure with the current Doctor and The Doctor that brought it all back. I'm sure one day somebody will write a tell-all book about what went down here. BBC Wales' triumphs and failures in the year that was impossible to get right.
That's what I mean though, he didn't turn it down because bad blood with the show
I wonder what the soundtrack to the 50th will actually consist of when it comes out, since it was pretty much this all the time.
It's good enough to be all it is. It's a seriously good track. The only problem is that it's so goddamn close to Mass Effect 2's Suicide mission soundtrack.

Similar patterns. I noticed this myself when I started playing both themes on piano. Sometimes I would start playing I am the Doctor and end up playing Suicide Mission instead.

So it pushed him to step down.
I remember this, almost remember. How can you forget this? You wont remember any of this.

No... you're quite obviously destroying the reaper base. Silly Doctor! Moffat was pleased that the First Doctor mentioned Gallifrey for the first time in the special.

You know Eccleston has a twin, why not just get him in for the regeneration? :v: [editline]25th November 2013[/editline] Am I the only one who thinks the piece of music (http://youtu.be/OrFpjh4KF4U?t=49s) is used so badly? It's supposed to be dramatic and then it's used in the most ugly ways. Like in this scene, at the end of the 50th and when the Doctors walk into the unit place. It just straight up never fits.
I don't know why the [sp]Tom Baker[/sp] scene gets my so feelsy. [sp]He was before my time. Never even seen an episode of his.[/sp]
I once heard, on top of that, they had also already approached Tennant before Eccleston had made a final decision - in the rush for a second series. So it pushed him to step down.
Blimey. Poor Chris.
The blu-ray says it's in 3D. Does anyone know if the 3D part is optional or not? I'd like a normal blu-ray. :<
Up to 11.8m viewers. Sunday added a huge 1.6m.

Also Moffat confirms Matt is the 13th and final Doctor, regeneration limit to be plot of Christmas: http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/doctor-who-christmas-spoilers-matt-2847509
Wait, but he's the twelfth?
Up to 11.8m viewers. Sunday added a huge 1.6m.
Somebody told me the BBC was expecting 14 million overnight and was disappointed, after marketing it on EVERY channel they own. I told them to fuck off, 10m against the X-Factor is always impressive. Though it's a shame it wasn't the most watched thing of the day :( [editline]25th November 2013[/editline]
Wait, but he's the twelfth?
1 - Hartnell 2 - Troughton 3 - Pertwee 4 - King Baker 5 - Davison 6 - Baker 7 - McCoy 8 - McGann 9 - Hurt 10 - Eccleston 11 - Tennant 12 - Tennant 2 13 - Smith The Journeys End regeneration will be explained as counting. So Matt is the 11th Doctor. But the 13th incarnation.
Well, here's hoping it goes well, but the fact that the Christmas episodes tend to be a lot more childish worries me.
From the rumours about.. this one is pretty dark, some territory in this one that The Doctor has never entered before. It's still got a lot of Chirstmas imagery. 11 is still wacky. But regeneration episodes tend to be the darkest, as do ones featuring Weeping Angels and Silents. Should be a poster tonight/tomorrow. Poster of The Doctor.

25th of December can't come soon enough.

Legit?
I second this. 3D movies used to have a whole separate box from Blu.
Most 3D Blu-rays come with a 2D version on disc for non-3D players.
