wait did clara say the doctor was her boyfriend
damn it
Well, would you expect her to to just say "time-travelling buddy"?
Oh my great galloping Gallifreyans.
[sp]And they're dating now. Darn, I was hoping for a little bit of DonnaDoctor2.0 action. But no says the Moff, for his ships will always sail.[/sp]
wait what they are
Pretty sure she was just lying
I guess she probably was just saying it to have her alien friend have Christmas with her without suspicion but I was really hoping that they would leave that kind of thing completely out seeing as he already had a girlfriend and a wife in the last few series. And then there's the girl who was characterised to be not his girlfriend, and then one who was characterised to be specifically his friend, and then one who was after him who was the mother of the wife of his and his father-in-law and the husband of the girl who was after him was there for a foil for the wife no matter how cool he was.
I just want a companion that's female and chill, damn it. :C

technically, he still HAS a wife. There's no knowing just when she might pop in. When he married that woman, she married her for always and never.

Don't forget he married Elizabeth as well. And was engaged to Marilyn Monroe.
Chris had a Fantastic Christmas special? Where?
The best christmas special so far is still the Michael Gambon one. Ripping off good old chrismas stories always works!
He didn't do a Christmas special. But he did a Christmas story, the Dickens one!
I'm guessing (from how he was mentioned in Bells of St. John) that Clara's telling her dad that The Doctor is her boyfriend, because he seems like quite a nosey individual who wants to make sure Clara's okay all the time.
Something that won't really work once Capaldi becomes the Doctor but would've been great for Matt is a female companion with an older dad who assumes that Matt is young and foolish so always presumes to know more than him, usually getting him into trouble.
It might happen just for one episode!

I like how Capaldi got a gasp and a cheer on a second viewing :v:
ETA: Damn it, part 3. Moffat telling everyone what a lovely guy Matt is and how he affects the crew.
=(
I've never followed the Dr Who timeline particularly effectively, as my experiences with the old series were random afternoon episodes when I was a kid. I've followed the reboot from 2005 onwards closely so that's all fine, but I've just watched that Night of the Doctor prequel and I'm a tad confused. Can anyone clarify how that slots into the timeline exactly?
I thought the time war was basically frozen right? So why does the 8th Doctor randomly decide to go and try to rescue some lady (not sure if she's an important reference to an older series' character or something) during the time war? And then he regenerates into Hurt's doctor? I don't get any of it... The impression I've always got is that before seeing even the first Doctor's incarnation way back in the 60's, he'd already dealt with the time war and such by that point and was adventuring the galaxy, so why does he only now (as the 8th regenerating into Hurt) decide to go BACK to the time war (somehow?) and try to end it as per the 50th special?
I probably sound like a complete moron to you proper Dr Who fans, but the whole thing's just done my head in and I wouldn't mind getting an understanding of it all. An abridged timeline to connect all the dots perhaps? Cheers.
The Time War started during the 7th-8th doctor era. The 8th doctor didn't go back in time, he was the current doctor during the early time war.
For the Doctor, the Time War started during his 8th regeneration I believe. So by that point he wasn't just visting, he was living the time of the war, avoiding it. Then War Doctor and full involvment, then timelock.
wibbly wobbly
and he's got longer hair than he usually has, which he had before the christmas episode filmed, so he's got the look of his doctor down it seems

I'm tempted to make that my spray in Garrys Mod.
According to Smith & Moffat at the Celebration -we will see what was behind 11's door in The God Complex.

it better not just be himself.
I wouldn't mind that still.
But AWESOME!

I kinda assumed it would be the War Doctor, but if it's still to be revealed, I'm not too sure.
"The culmination of all the Eleventh Doctor's stories" is the headline.
But then this
"Dig as deep as you like, nobody has a negative story to tell about Matt Smith."
"The crew work faster when he is there. He comes on to the set joyously every day, hugs everybody, says hello to everybody, knows everybody's name, everybody's kids names and has been an extraordinary ambassador for the show. The way he has carried himself as The Doctor has been something of which The Doctor himself would be immensely proud."
"What I can say is that the Christmas Special features Matt Smith's finest ever performance as The Doctor and the finest performance of any Doctor."
Shows the regeneration of Troughton to Pertwee near the end.
On another note, if we were to end up having an Eighth Doctor Spin-Off, would you guys care if it was lower budget then normal Doctor Who? And what would it be called? I myself think they could just call it Doctor Who : Dark Eyes and make it take place during that time period.
And on another other note, I really hope David Bradley appears as the First Doctor in New Who. It would be really great to have him and possibly Claudia Grant playing Susan, as she seemed to enjoy doing the scene recreations, in a Multi-Doctor special.

For the 8th doctor? I'm seeing a two-season spin-off where the first season sees him just travel about for a good half season before the war starts and his involvement starts and ends when he ragequits and attempts to adventure while ignoring it. In the middle of season two, the hurt regeneration will happen just as we saw in the short, at the start of a 5-part story that then ends as he walks towards the iron-age hut on a desert planet and from there, the 50th carries on.
We'd essentially get to know both Doctors without investing so much time in them, that the current doctor becomes unimportant. What it'd serve to do was fill out the blanks with both doctors and give fans a view of what the war actually was, how it started, what it was for and such. Reintroduce the Daleks in the main series running up to the 5-part hurt story and you've got a total success!
I sound like i'm pitching, don't i?
