A Scottish Mackinnon? Nonsense!
Nawww. I quite like them popping up in Who every now and then as a neat treat. I'd rather have a UNIT spin off.
A bit late but you guys aren't thinking straight.
What you really want is a McGann spin off. That would be amazing.

that would literally just be doctor who
I do sorta wish there had somehow been a season for the Eighth Doctor. McGann was far better than the movie he was in. He deserved more time.
I did love him in Night Of The Doctor, however.
Edit: I have a question for UK Whovians. . .what's your general opinion of Paul McGann's Doctor? Yes, it was an American production, made for NBC in 1996, and the TARDIS barely showed up. As an American viewer, I felt it was a great performance in a somewhat lackluster film, but for UK audiences, how do you feel he did? Did you feel Eric Roberts was a poor choice for the Master? Did the film FEEL like Doctor Who to you, or did it feel like a watered down, Americanized version?
Edit 2: Overall, I liked it, but felt some of the fan service was a bit forced, like the Doctor asking the policeman if he would like a Jelly Baby, or seeing Tom Baker's scarf. Like an American director with only a basic understanding of Doctor Who had seen maybe five episodes from different eras, and said "Okay, I got this shit."

Writer and director of the TV movie were British and grew up with Doctor Who.
The problem wasn't that it was American, just that it wasn't very good. The TARDIS appeared plenty enough it was just watered down and empty. Roberts could've been a good Master, he really had nothing to work with.
Also the plan for the series was cheap. The idea they had was to just remake classic stories which was lazy.
McGann stands. He was and always will be a great Doctor. I hope the rumours of an online-based mini series featuring McGann come true. I never understood the reasoning for starting the new series without him. Apparently he was on RTD's list of actors, so he was considered. RTD's ultimate reason was to separate the continuity but I really don't think most people would've noticed or cared. It was still a Doctor they wouldn't know. But I guess Eccleston's Doctor says a lot more about our time than McGann's.
Eccleston was definitely the better choice for the time. They really needed to update the show and start a fresh, so new viewers wouldn't feel alienated if they hadn't seen the TV movie or episodes before that.
(please more mcgann though)

pretend the movie never existed
Not really a spoiler, but if anyone's interested, I consulted a source after Time of the Doctor, and basically at one point, the clock tower scene was supposed to be the actual regeneration, and Capaldi's first scene would be as Clara walks into the TARDIS. The scene with the Daleks was supposed to be the last moments of the Eleventh Doctor. There was dialogue just before Clara goes into the TARDIS where Tasha Lem tells Clara to go and be with the Doctor, who is still alive, as they saw him regenerate. Clara asks her to come with her and she says it's too risky because of the Dalek inside her, and that she can never see him again, before walking into the distance.
Presumably, they wanted to give Matt a proper final scene, instead of a shouty scene in old man makeup.

There was also a cut scene where The Doctor gets grabbed by an Angel. His leg starts to turn to stone. Next time Clara visits The Doctor reveals he removed the leg to stop the infection and replaced it with a wooden one. Which is why he walks with a cane and a limp.
This spoiler actually came out before the episodes. Many assumed because it wasn't in the episode it was just a false spoiler. But apparently there's another version which had the scene intact. All scenes related to the leg thing were seemingly cut.

Also. More rumours. Episode 1 is being filmed first because it's "needed first".
Begin Easter special speculation.

Trackboy also says it's only 12 episodes this year not 13. The 50th needed more budget so one episode was knocked into that.

Thank you for responding. Thank you for your avatar. And thank you for proving your custom title wrong.

or it could be because the Easter episode doesn't get counted

Word getting out that Moffat mentions Series 9 commission in DWM - and unbroken series runs.
Hopefully will get a copy soon.
Capaldi interview is meant to be superb, too.
Last year Steven Moffat confirmed that Series 8 would not be split. He reaffirms this in the new DWM and adds that this will become the standard format of broadcast.
He said: “We’re not going to do splits, and the same format will repeat exactly the following year like that. So it will be the traditional form.”
The mag also confirms the first three blocks of filming on Series 8. Block one is directed by Ben Wheatey. Douglas Mackinnon will return for Block Two, and Paul Murphy will then direct Block three. No further writers are revealed except Moffat’s Victorian opener. This week the BBC announced Phil Ford for episode 2.
With producer Marcus Wilson leaving, Nikki Wilson and Peter Bennett have returned to fill the void. Tracie Simpson will act as line producer.
