Really didn't like this episode. I thought the whole "Jekyll and Hide" thing Smith was doing with the Cyber Planner was incredibly lame and cheesy. The previews for the next episode look fantastic though.
I dunno, at least the brothers weren't stroppy for no reason like the girl in this episode.
I think I liked that thing. Also, the episode in general seemed to have a bit of a Warhammer-y edge to it; [sp]a vast Imperium, extreme measures that involve destroying entire planets, and a cybernetic army that slumbered beneath the world for a very long time.[/sp] I was honestly wondering how the Doctor and his friends were going to get out of that one, what with the whole [sp]cybernetic infestation and disfigurement; I mean, even if the pulse disabled and eliminated the Cyberiad presence, they'd technically still have the cyber-stuff implanted in their faces. That way the Doctor could do some medical surgical stuff to remove the implants later.[/sp] It's probably nitpicking, and you can't expect much from measly budgets like what the BBC gives them, but still. That aside, the kids weren't alright; they were just chess pieces for most of the episode.
"Put me down. I hate you." Angie knows how to deal with Cybermen. Wasn't fond of much of the dialogue in this episode at all. Smith had a lot asked of him and saved it for me. What could have been some development for Clara was implemented poorly.
I'm even more scared of the cybermen now. :<
Yeah Clara just went "Okay I'll command a squad of young people in battle- oh one of them died? I won't show any reaction".

Very 'Handsome Jack' Doctor this episode. I'm intrigued as to whether the next episode will be as groundbreaking as we're led on to be.
Anyone: "Hey Angie, you drop your keys!" Angie: "WHY DO YOU HAVE TO RUIN EVERYTHING! I HATE YOU! GO FUCK YOURSELF WITH A RUSTY SPIKE YOU WHORE!"
It's time for everyone's favorite, say it with me... YAY OR NAY! Does this episode deserve to take its place among the greatest episodes of Who, or should it burn in hell together with atrocities like Love and Monsters? Last week's episode, The Crimson Horror, got yays across the board. Can Neil Gaiman's second episode get the same? Let's find out.
Expectations were a lot higher because it was Gaiman writing it. As the episode goes it was alright, but nowhere near up to the standard most of us were expecting. Nay. But then, The Doctor's Wife was always going to be a tough act to follow. Also, what was the Sixth Doctor reference in this one?
Also, what was the Sixth Doctor reference in this one?
Turns out it's just a coincidence after-all. Like the lights going out in basically every episode. An editor would have realised and stopped any repeated themes, tropes, and plots but for something was undeniably fucked up behind the scenes. Otherwise Carol Skinner wouldn't have been fired. [editline]12th May 2013[/editline] Apparently Moff isn't bullshitting when he says this next episode will change the show forever according to at least one reviewer on Twitter. [editline]12th May 2013[/editline] Getting the sinking feeling Vastra, Jenny, and Strax will die in this episode. Can't fathom why. I bet at least one does (for good this time).
Also, from the BBC advert for Name of the Doctor: http://i.imgur.com/kuZu7nr.png [sp]That'll be the Doctor's timeline that was mentioned in a leak aaaages ago then.[/sp]

11th confirmed for 2014... not sure how I feel about extending his stay so much... might as well give him tenure.
11th confirmed for 2014... not sure how I feel about extending his stay so much... might as well give him tenure.
Not true at all. A series hasn't been confirmed for 2014 yet. Only Jenna and Steven have said they're on board. Matt has always said until 2014.
http://io9.com/matt-smith-confirms-hell-still-be-starring-in-doctor-w-464794392 Dunno if you consider this proof enough. Or a red herring?
Matt seems to be getting better and better for every episode, in a way i want to see more of him, and in another way i want him to leave on a high.

Or a red herring?
The interview Io9 is quoting is from was conducted in January/february and he was talking about the 2013 series. Was already debunked on GB a while back. Totally reliable people who are never wrong (and told us about a lot of things in this series and the 50th before they were official) says Matt is 100% leaving [sp]Christmas day[/sp]

They'd have to build up his regeneration similar to the "He will knock four times" theme in near the end of Tennent's era if they are going to make his regeneration hit the fans in the tear ducts.
Sorry but who are those children? Did I miss a bit of exposition somewhere? Is modern day Clara working as a nanny, or did she adopt them?
Sorry but who are those children? Did I miss a bit of exposition somewhere? Is modern day Clara working as a nanny, or did she adopt them?
She is a nanny if I remember correctly.

It should be short and sweet like Chris. In the 50th [sp]we briefly meet the 12th Doctor which alerts 11 his time is coming to an end[/sp]. That's as much foreboding you'll get. [editline]12th May 2013[/editline]
Sorry but who are those children? Did I miss a bit of exposition somewhere? Is modern day Clara working as a nanny, or did she adopt them?
I think she was hired as a nanny but the mother died not long after and she didn't want to leave them after that so she hung around, she got a room and everything. But then she never left because they became so attached to her and she didn't want to upset them again. It's why she regularly goes home. Something like that. [editline]12th May 2013[/editline] They should really get Babelcolour to recolour all the black and white episodes. It would be wonderful.
They weren't like real characters at all. Are they there so another children's spin off can be made or do they mean something in the context of the "Clara's identity" story arc? Guess I'll find out next week [editline]12th May 2013[/editline] Didn't they recolour some Jon Pertwee ones that were originally made in colour, then wiped, then b&w copies were found in a BBC employee illicit recordings amnesty or something
They were just backing for Clara. To show she's a good hearted person. They shouldn't have been forced on us beyond that. As for Claras identity (reliable spoilers, don't click if you want to keep the secret): [sp]modern Clara is the real original Clara. Next week she splinters herself across time to help The Doctor in all his incarnations whenever he was in inescapable danger. She does this after The Great Intelligence infects his time stream and undoes every victory from The Doctors life, slowly killing The Doctor as a result.[/sp] [editline]12th May 2013[/editline] BEHIND THE SCENES INFO FOR THIS EPISODE A poster on GB who is trusted and known to work with Gaiman on his scripts has revealed a ton of info about other drafts of this story. OLD DRAFT: Originally it was much longer. Too long. It started with a scene where the kids discover Claras double life. When the episode was shortened this was stuck on the end of The Crimson Horror (scene written by Moffat). There was then a scene where The Doctor refused to let the children join the TARDIS crew. But Clara convinced him that essentially she was just a child compared to him. So he let the kids on-board. Artie had all sorts of ideas about where they could go but The Doctor dismissed them all as boring and takes them to the themepark as he has a golden ticket- from here on it's mostly the same. There were a lot of character moments cut and nice scenes with the children. Moffat didn't want to loose these scenes but had no choice. In post production a lot of the children were cut too. The Cybermen also stalked the soldiers for a bit longer and had built in sniper rifles. This episode really suffered from not being a 2-parter. OLDER DRAFT: The first draft was totally different. The children were called Beryl, Angie, and Godfrey. Three children. They were also Victorian. The original plan was Clara was for her to be the Victorian Clara from Snowman. Every episode would start with her living her Victorian life and end with her Victorian life. The children were going to be way more important then their modern counterparts. Gaiman wrote a large chunk of the script but then left his laptop on a plane and never got it back. Two weeks later Cardiff told him the plan had changed. Bonus info: Neil wanted to write a novel version of The Doctors Wife with all his deleted scenes included. But he is only allowed by contract to work with one Publisher and they couldn't secure the Who rights. In the script Neil specifically said The Cybermen should move silently. He repeated this multiple times. He stressed it. Late in post production they added the stomps and told Neil it looked silly without them. This is when they cut a lot of the scenes where the Cybermen silently stalk the soldiers.
Here are the real working titles... First there was Steven Moffat's descriptor title in the series 7 pitch document, which was "The Last of the Cybermen." Neil Gaiman's called his first draft "Silver Ghosts," due to some ideas he abandoned in the next drafts. The middle drafts were called "Nightmare in Silver." The shooting script was "The Last Cyberman," more in keeping with the original pitch document title. As it moved into post-production, he toyed with changing it to either "Last of the Cybermen" again or "Saviour of the Cybermen," before finally settling back on "Nightmare in Silver."
The David Tennant Satan 2-parter was heavily re-written by RTD
Heh, I noticed that when the images of the Doctor show up in today's episode, it's the same stills as used on the BBC 50th anniversary website:
The Hartnell shot was nicely colourised
