In my opinion, Eleventh Hour was much better as it didn't over complicate things. I must have watched that about eleven or so times at the time of release.
Eleventh Hour had the advantage of starting over completely.
Paternoster got in the way, IMO.
i think eleventh hour also really hit the nail on the head with the proceeding doctors flashing by and eleven walking through it. that really sold me
- "Don't worry I can keep more air in my lungs- KISS ME". I've seen less contrived lesbian kissing in porn. Clara didn't need to do it to survive. We didn't need a dramatic close up. We didn't need the sequence at all. Why not just have them kiss naturally without it being a giant plot mechanic that needs all the attention drawn to it. It was tacky and weird.
Well, we've not seen them kiss before which is odd for a married couple. Then again I don't recall Amy and Rory kissing, but I don't have the best memory... I think The Doctor and River Sue kissed. And I welcome any open display of LGBTQ affection on national television that's not Gaze-y.
My personal theory on [sp]that crazy lady at the end[/sp] is that [sp]she's some sort of crazy time travelling lady with a creepy crush on The Doctor[/sp]. Not much of a theory but I'm not going to leap to conclusions. It's been too long since I've followed any sort of series with a narrative.
The new intro looked great in the cinema although some of the other effects looked cheap compared to what is usually seen in movies.
The Q and A was a bit meh, though it was good to think all 450 cinemas and Odeon Leicester Square were all together in asking things Zoe Ball didn't really read out many audience questions and asked her own questions a lot of the time.
Little children were at the showing and it's great how, as Moffat said in answer to a question, the show is written for any age from 70+ year olds to 4 year olds. He also said that in his opinion a show like Doctor Who is better than "art"
I enjoyed it but completely agree with all the points Dan made.
Looking forward to seeing the Doctor get darker though.
was there a prequel
There was a shortish scene with Strax talking about the doctor's previous incarnations and Vastra and Jenny also appeared, but I wouldn't really call it a prequel as such.
After the episode and before the Q and A they showed the behind the scenes Extra, but I had already seen that - and since everyone in the cinema was a fan who had paid money to see something they could have watched at home for nothing I imagine they'd all seen it too.
When I was waiting to go in ventilated asked me if it was going to be in b&w - I took that as a bit of his quirky humour
When the doctor says [sp]He recognizes his face, is he saying he recognizes his own face, or hes recognizing it because of Peter's previous character in Pompeii? Or is there some sort of metaphorical thing going on?[/sp]
I loved this, but I sort of feel as if I missed an episode. Didn't feel like that with other regenerations.
They said they were subtly address why the doctor looks like he does in this episode. I didn't catch it at all

Do I have to spoiler tag this? Not sure. His appearance [sp]was to do with Clara trusting him[/sp] he can't currently remember where he got the face from, I took that as a possible reference to his having seen this face in Pompeii?
Little joke I didn't like was [sp]thinking about a big scarf when he was cold then rejecting that because it "looks silly". Tom Baker is my favourite Doctor from old Who I reject absolutely suggestions that he looked silly[/sp]
Little joke I did like was [sp]the Doctor (being Scottish) saying he could "moan about everything" and "blame the English". Also the comment about his eyebrows wanting to declare independence from his face[/sp]

Come now..
[sp]He didn't say it looked silly....[/sp]
No, no, no...
[sp]he said it looked STUPID[/sp]
pretty sure he said it looked silly
I hope all the fans who were complaining about Capaldi being too old have shut up now as well. It's nice to have an old doctor again in my opinion

I like to think that in the episode [sp]Vastra wasn't just judging Clara, but in a way the show was judging the people who complain about an old doctor.[/sp]

Definitely stupid.
At first I thought [sp]she was Tasha Lem, but it's a different actor so woops[/sp]. According to the credits [sp]she's called 'Missy', and is played by Michelle Gomez, a Scottish actress. Definitely going to compliment the casting of Capaldi[/sp]
She was introduced as [sp]The Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere[/sp]

Also
[sp]Missy = The Mistress = The Master[/sp]
Was the volume a bit too quiet at the beginning of the episode to anyone else?
I like to think that in the episode [sp]Vastra wasn't just judging Clara, but in a way the show was judging the people who complain about an old doctor.[/sp]
Yeah I got that impression a lot throughout the episode that it was a subtle dig at the people complaining about the new Doctor not being young and attractive.
[sp]I was not expecting that Matt Smith cameo at all[/sp]
Reminded me of Robot when The Doctor keeps opening the door to an exasperated Brigadier and Sarah who need his help
Oh my god people are supposedly getting their trichotillomania 'triggered' by the scene in the restaurant where the doctor pulls a strand of Clara's hair out. God help us.

Why do these people honestly think the doctor who writers need to look out for every special snowflakes mental disorder? If they did they'd never be able to put anything in the show.

My sister has trchotillomania. It isn't triggered by seeing someone's hair get pulled out by someone else
snip pretend this isn't here, go about your daily business, nothing to see here xoxo
I feel sorry for her. She probably should need to blame the show. But I know of her. She's an intelligent young woman who has a large following. She's raised so much awareness for her illness on TV and Youtube. She's a genuine good person.
It's a horrible horrible hideous illness and I really sympathise for her to be triggered by a much loved programme. I'm sure if I was in her shows I would feel the same. Just because your sister is one way doesn't mean somebody else is the same. If she was triggered we have to respect that. I don't think anybody should speak down to her or dismiss her. Thats unfair. Hugely.
The fact is though she can't blame the show. You can't expect the world to be bubble wrapped against every possible offensive illness. But I hope she's okay.

coincidentally, trichotillomania is not a special snowflake disorder. My sister is mentally handicapped. She's 16 and she barely acts 12. She doesn't watch Dr Who, or go on tumblr. She listens to music and draws and that's pretty much all she does. She gets severe anxiety about school and family situations. The anxiety manifests itself in trichotillomania. She pulls out hair in a certain patch of her head over and over till it's bald there, and then she keeps picking till it bleeds.
This is helped by medication.
It's not a special snowflake disorder.
