I sympathize with her - but it's unfair to attack the production.
coincidentally, trichotillomania is not a special snowflake disorder. My sister is mentally handicapped. She's 16 and she barely acts 12. She doesn't watch Dr Who, or go on tumblr. She listens to music and draws and that's pretty much all she does. She gets severe anxiety about school and family situations. The anxiety manifests itself in trichotillomania. She pulls out hair in a certain patch of her head over and over till it's bald there, and then she keeps picking till it bleeds. This is helped by medication. It's not a special snowflake disorder.
I'm not saying people with the disorder are special snowflakes, I'm talking about the kind of idiot who would moan on twitter about the doctor who writers not taking every single possible mental disorder into account when they make an episode. Particularly considering as you mentioned that it doesn't even get triggered like that.
It's not a special snowflake disorder.
100% this. I expect Doctor Who fans to not be judgemental or cruel about anybody. Especially those suffering with an illness. I thought this show would help people be understanding and not dismissive of somebody who is going through a struggle. Especially to be so rude and insensitive in a public place. She was upset by an episode. She's an unstable young woman. What right does anybody have to be upset by that? She's entitled to feel how she likes especially when she can't help it. She's not starting a fight. She voiced her opinion on a social networking site. Be respectful. Especially when it comes to health.

You can't blame the doctor who team for this as though they were somehow careless for not taking every single mental disorder into account when making an episode.
Oh god what have I started

She was upset. People do daft things when they're upset. They pick a target. They look for somebody to blame. She isn't right to blame the people she chose as it's an unpredictable outcome. Nobody could forsee she would be triggered. Everybody is different.

I objected to your attitude and terms.

But I do find it ridiculous how she was 'triggered' by a 10 second scene.
It's happening!
Considering it apparently isn't even triggered just by seeing someone pull out hair, I assume the person in question doesn't even have it and is just looking to moan about shit on the internet.
This is the most upsetting post I've ever seen here. How dare you accuse somebody you don't know of being a liar. Here. Watch her rip out her hair regularly. There was a This Morning interview which isn't around anymore where she talks about it. I had told you a couple of times she's well known. I told you she raises awareness for the illness on Youtube and TV. You ignored it and just made a generalisation about a person you don't know without even looking it up. I'll tell you the same thing I've been repeating since this thing started: People are different. If she was triggered we have no right to judge that. We just move on. Was she right to blame producers and writers? No. But she was upset and people lash out. You've dealt with it really insensitively.

Why are there ads aaaah
Why are there ads aaaah
Wait, BBC America does advertisements? We didn't get any in the UK showing, outside of an advert for BBC shows before and after.
Wait, BBC America does advertisements? We didn't get any in the UK showing, outside of an advert for BBC shows before and after.
Over here in Canada on Space network or whatever, they play ads almost every 10 minutes into an episode. Also; Fairly good episode, but Iunno. There isn't that 'thrill' or 'rush' that you used to get with the other Doctors. Perhaps it's just the new direction they're going in? I'm not sure. I cannot really judge off of one episode, so I will remain optimistic!
Wait, BBC America does advertisements? We didn't get any in the UK showing, outside of an advert for BBC shows before and after.
Spaced out enough adds to make it last from 8:15 to bloody 10 o'clock. First 15 minutes. was their live preshow with that guy from the Nerdist and Wesley Crusher's actor. Have an aftershow on, too. At 11. They need to spend an hour to premiere some new show called The Intruders first.
so wait [sp]wasn't the half-face man just in the TARDIS at the end? I just assumed the Doctor had pulled some wibbley wobbley shit out of his ass and uploaded half-face man's consciousness to the TARDIS and "Missy" was just a different personification of the TARDIS. I saw some people talking about how she might end up being the main bad guy of the season or something[/sp] were there leaks or something that elaborate on this?
Not to sound cruel, but Cognitive Behavioral Theory was developed for a reason. You can't honestly expect the world to change every potential trigger for everyone. that's impossible and a totally unrealistic aim for anyone to strive for. So, it is way easier to just change the thought process of the individual than the external world. Man that confrontation [sp]where he calls the guy a broom and starts going on about how he's changed so many times he probably doesn't remember where he got his own face from and it so relates to him and wow [/sp]
I really like the new theme tune. It's not perfect but it's getting better.
Oh my god people are supposedly getting their trichotillomania 'triggered' by the scene in the restaurant where the doctor pulls a strand of Clara's hair out. God help us. Edit: oh god
[TRIGGER WARNING] Deep Breath by Steven Moffat
Does anyone know what the name of the piece of music (it might be the leitmotif for the 12th doctor?) that plays when the Doctor is getting out of the bed? It sounds like it's composed entirely of clock sounds -- grandfather clocks, pocket watches, wind-up clocks. I've been trying to find it for about 30 minutes now.
During the broom scene this was all I could think about:
Deep Breath was watched by 6.7 million viewers in the UK (outside of cinemas/DVR/iPlayer) and was the most watched programme of the day by a healthy margin of 2.6 million. It highlights how poor the BBC are performing on Saturday nights - and how safe DW is. Highest series opener since The Eleventh Hour and given recent viewing trends, it's little surprise it didn't top it. We'll see what the timeshift holds.
Now let's wait for people to call it a sign the show is unpopular because they compare it to Series 5 ratings. Comparing today's ratings to ratings from a few years ago is a bit like comparing the price of something today to something ten years ago.
BBC News at 22:15 was in third place. They need a better Saturday lineup :v: Next week, ladies and gentlemen... Doctor Who takes on Simon Cowell.
[B]1 …. 6.8 (32.5%) …. Sorry if it's already been posted but this bit is awesome, they used a Smith mask. :v:
I think at the point when Capaldi said [sp]Was it The Doctor?[/sp] Clara should have said "No, it was you" as a way of accepting his new face, or something similar.
