I actually really liked Capaldi which is more than I can say for my first Tennant and Smith episodes
Deep Breath has currently timeshifted to 8.4m in the UK - surpassing Asylum. Not holding my breath, but our ratings insider believes it could still see another 1m on top despite us hitting the working week.

I'm so excited for a Dalek story without Time-War baggage and drama. Like the classic series. The Doctor doesn't have to hate them quite so vehemently anymore. [editline]26th August 2014[/editline] I'm so excited for a 45 minute adventure. I'm so excited for Capaldi fully as The Doctor and not in a post-regen crisis. A whole episode in his costume. I'm so excited for another 12 Saturday's of Who. This is so much more exciting that Deep Breath.

I like how there is a cable that goes in to the monitor.
whenever I hear "bring back david tennant and rtd!!" i get unreasonably angry
It's totally reasonable. It's TV's equivalent of people saying "If only Diana were here!". If you say that without irony, I want to resort to fists.
They DID bring back David Tennant. It's not a valid complaint anymore. [editline]26th August 2014[/editline] If only Diana were here

From now on, Doctor Who Extra is being made available to non-UK viewers on the BBC YouTube channel.
Remember this gem? [t]http://manilapop.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/doctor-who-series-7-episode-2-dinosaurs-on-a-spaceship.jpeg[/t]
Which reminds me: we're apparently not getting movie-style posters anymore. Was that just a series 7 thing then?
Which reminds me: we're apparently not getting movie-style posters anymore. Was that just a series 7 thing then?
I mean we sort of are.. just without the text.
Which reminds me: we're apparently not getting movie-style posters anymore. Was that just a series 7 thing then?
Yeah the theme of Series 7 was a mini-movie every week. Hence no two parters. The movie poster thing was part of that.
I mean we sort of are.. just without the text.
But now it just looks like Peter Capaldi is playing a dalek and Jenna Coleman is playing Peter Capaldi
Director Ben Wheatley, who performed such a stout job on the opener for Doctor Who, Series 8 lends his cinematic gaze again for a few moments here but this is a more pedestrian effort; and like Deep Breath there's an odd lack of cohesiveness at times.
Why did Wheatley have to sabotage his own work :v: http://blogtorwho.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/preview-into-dalek-spoilerfree.html Interesting last line - heh.
Wheatley ended up being a rather flat an uninteresting Who director.
Watching the Time Meddler, the First Doctor had some brilliant lines: Also:
DOCTOR: Yes, it's a bit rusted but, er, it's not as old as that. Tenth, eleventh century? England. Well, there you are, young man. What do you think of that now, eh? A Viking helmet. STEVEN: Oh, maybe. DOCTOR: What do you mean, maybe? What do you think it is, a space helmet for a cow?
Sheer poetry indeed.
Wheatley ended up being a rather flat an uninteresting Who director.
meh, there's not really much directors can do with the material. I don't think I remember there being any amazing cinematic shots/stand out directorial flair in any episode. Apart from maybe the opening two parter of s6, but the location lent itself to beautiful shots. The writer has much more impact on the outcome of the episode than the director in Doctor Who's case, imo.

Amazing director on Who. He added a blockbuster quality to the look and feel of the show before it was fashionable to do so. I can think of plenty of directors who have done amazing jobs.

I can think of plenty of directors who have done amazing jobs.
go on then I never liked Deep Breath. I just like Capaldi's Doctor when he becomes himself (which to me is the moment he rips the face-mask off). I think Paternoster is overused and epitomizes everything that is wrong with Moffat era Who. He's trying to create another Tyler family when he's just not very good at human relationships or emotions, everything has to be fantastic or unique with him. Deep Breath is pretty childish and doesn't really suit Capaldi, especially the first half. It was a Smith story.
that dude who directed cold war was pretty good
that dude who directed cold war was pretty good
Dick Makickin?
go on then
Adam Smith Toby Haynes Nick Hurran Graeme Harper Euros Lyn Joe Ahearne Sure these guys got to work with great scripts. But they captured a magic in their episodes. Smith's idea of the photos as The Doctor's memory in Eleventh Hour. Or how he caught that gorgeous piece of lighting when The Doctor gives Amy the apple. It was his flare throughout all his episodes that really made Series 5 a thing of beauty. The atmosphere Haynes creates in Pandorica is enchanting. From the Indiana Jones esque moment they explore the Pandorica tomb to to the spectacular looking spaceships in the sky. Never once looking tacky or cheap. Harper and Lyn made the template that the show followed for years. I wish Ahearne wasn't allegedly such a dick to Chris, because he made the Daleks seem more threatening than they have in any story since. [editline]27th August 2014[/editline] And I will never accept "he's just not very good at human relationships or emotions". Did you miss The Girl in the Fireplace? Blink? Amelia and The Doctor? The War Doctor and the new Doctors? The Doctor and Clara relationship in Deep Breath? The frankly beautiful stuff he's done with the characters in Sherlock? I've had my heart broken by Moffat.
Just reached the horse scene again. "He's not ready to leave his bed!" The "ooooooiiiiiiii" sound Capaldi makes as he gallops past makes me laugh and I don't know why :v:
That reminds me, the "ohhhhhh" bit he does in the alley scene which follows with the line "I'm Scottish" sounds like the 10th Doctor :v: [editline]27th August 2014[/editline] Also, :v: Needs a 10 hour version
