I think that was the worst episode in a long time. I know it's still early on in the series and a single episode doesn't really indicate how the rest will be, but so much for things being darker and more serious. It also kind of ruined my expectations for Capaldi, the way he was in that episode just seemed so immature and wasn't at all like i think the Doctor should be.
I thought that episode was Gatiss' second best. I like how people actually die now. Capaldi was also fookin gr8. Thought the Golden Arrow thing was a little silly but eh.
I think that was my favourite episode in a long time. It was a little silly but I think it worked quite well. I enjoyed it more than Deep Breath and Into the Dalek, personally.

I think Capaldi is rocking it, really enjoying his take on the role.
you'd think alien lasers would be a bit better than that though
I thought it was something to do with the gold as they were gold plates, were they not? Where could there possibly have been room for a beheading in that final fight? I didn't notice an obvious cut. Good episode. Very fun.
if it was for the sheriff to be beheaded, it looked like he might have crawled out of the molten gold.
Ben Miller for the role of The Master please, the likeness to the old incarnation is uncanny.
Plottwist; [sp]Robin Hood wasn't a robot.[/sp]
[sp]Nice surprise :)[/sp]
Script spoilers for this episode regarding the cut scene. [sp]The beheading and reveal of the sheriff being a robot (and then putting his head back on) was before he ascended to the beam where Robin kicked him off.[/sp] Part of the script including this scene. Left in the bit at the end so you can easily place it.

I'm surprised that there wasn't even a nod to the last Robin Hood TV reboot.
I burst out laughing at the karate chop. Brilliant.
I'm surprised that there wasn't even a nod to the last Robin Hood TV reboot.
especially as one of the doctor who directors directed some of the episodes of it
I loved Clara's dig at the Sonic. I'm glad he lost it and had to use brains to solve the problem, Doctor Who is so much better when it's not the power of love. The Golden Age is Now!
For me, this has been the most consistent opening set of episodes for many a series. In a good way. By all accounts, Listen will follow suit. If not just because we appear to see the most interesting looking part of the TARDIS console being used for the first time - unless I'm mistaken about the 'first time' part. Always wondered what it was for.
i do think the arrow at the end was a bit of a deus ex machina we could have done without tbh
i do think the arrow at the end was a bit of a deus ex machina we could have done without tbh
it's not a deus ex machina, it's a chekhov's gun. a deus ex machina would be if the doctor suddenly found a golden arrow just lying conveniently around that previously had no story introduction.
well whatever it was i didnt like it [editline]6th September 2014[/editline] i mean it didn't detract from the episode, it just left a bitter taste
[sp]I think the arrow would have been fine if it did more than just stick in the side of the ship and somehow boost it out of orbit.[/sp]
My one complaint about Capaldi - He doesn't fiddle the TARDIS enough. All he seems to do is flip the lever.
My one complaint about Capaldi - He doesn't fiddle the TARDIS enough. All he seems to do is flip the lever.
We saw him set coordinates and spin the thing before setting the TARDIS off, tonight. His hands were mostly off screen, though. In a calm and collected manner, too. He seems to know how to fly that thing... better than before.
It was decent but by no accounts amazing, in my opinion. I found it to be less gripping to me than the previous two.
So the whole of the Tardis's interior is just that little looping circle thing rhat your cursor turns into whenever Window's is doing something? Also the next episode better be balls-out scary shit. Been too long since we've had a real horror episode. Idealy one where the monster doesn't just want a hug.
This episode turned out better than I expected. Definitely one of Mark Gatiss' Best written episodes. also still waiting on the code Grizz
Meanwhile, NeonVisual's blabbering on Facebook that he's convinced that Twelve is the Valeyard and will be gone next season because "THE REAL DOCTOR WOULDN'T DO THAT!"
He yells at clara, she's no longer a companion but now is a carer who "cares so I don't have to". There are already lots of clues scattered around. The real Doctor would never leave Clara to be alone with the clockwork guy in the sewers, he clearly only cares about her when he can get something out of it. Why else would Moffat cast an actor well known for being angry at people and not caring You wouldn't want to cast a lovable character from an actor who's acting range is distinctly toward the abusive end of the spectrum - he didn't even try to save the guy that got killed by the antibody, all he cared about was using his death to serve his own purpose to find out where it went. I bet Missy saved him Also, the whole hate thing with the Dalek was focused on. The real doctor would have hate, but not so much that it totally overrun the good in him. Don't just assume the Dalek focused on the hate because it's a dalek. The whole point was that it was capable of good but the doctor still turned it evil, just against other daleks. - Also totally didn't care that girl's brother had just died. That's not a very doctory thing to do - Oh, also, evil eyebrows that are incapable of being anything other than angry, feature in the title sequence too when we could have had a full lovable face instead like that which has come before
I quite liked that. From the "next time" glimpse last week, i thought it would have been too silly but I was pleasantly surprised. The Chekhov's Gun was nearly a literal Gun that was fired, no surprises there. Really enjoyable episode. I especially liked the twist where there wasn't a twist about Robin Hood. [editline]7th September 2014[/editline] Which could have been done badly, but was done well. Top stuff.
My one critism is that it looked like it got hit hard with the Welsh Quarry stick. [editline]7th September 2014[/editline] Just looked very cheap is all.
that was good nice music too

Robot of Sherwood - 5.2m Slightly up on last week, second place for the day - below The X Factor.
