i mean holy shit im in shock
i cant believe they used the 11th doctors theme in the next time preview i mean holy shit what
if anyone doesn't think that was a perfect episode i will fucking fight them
Best of the series so far and i loved the inception'esqe plot but for me its still a bit muddled. Thing on the bed for example was just discarded. And it felt wrong to just leave it like that, what with the doctors goal of trying to find 'it'.
If you want the canon answer to what was under the bed/who wrote the stuff etc here you go:
[sp]Sorry, I lied - there is no canon answer. Even the production team doesn't know. You'll have to make up your own mind.[/sp]

Clara says what it was, dude. It was a kid messing with them. The stuff with the TV turning off was explained logically, the coffee thing was debunked by the Doctor when he was the one who took it.
We readily believe the Doctor because Doctor Who usually has an alien/monster villain. This episode subverted that expectation and it was fucking 10/10

what about the spaceship stuff?
what about the spaceship stuff?
Orsum was alone for six months. He must have been going loopy. The Doctor explains the noises by the hull cooling explanation etc. They're all panicking because they believe the Doctor.
I thought this was all self explanatory, guys.
10/10 ratings surging in on DS and GB.
Golden age, EG. :v: Even if you just want to justify it was being this very moment, right now.

doors don't open themselves though, or knock 3 times.
doors don't open themselves though, or knock 3 times.
The Doctor explains it in dialogue! Listen!
The knocking - Hull cooling.
The opening - Automatic response to the pressure when the Doctor unlocked it.
doors don't open themselves though, or knock 3 times.
as the doctor said
it could just be the mechanics of the door, automatically opening when depressurized (and that causing the knocks)
doors don't open themselves though, or knock 3 times.
The dialogue throughout the episode offers up logical explanations for the occurrences. I've heard pipes make noises on repeat. Why not the hull of a starship? The door was also explained as being automated once The Doctor opened the pressure lock.
This episode might be my favourite of Nu-Who. It's utterly flawless.
THE GOLDEN FUCKING AGE
only thing i dont get is when the covers come off the person in the bedroom, you can see a blurry face and it looks a bit creepy.
When do random pipe noise make consistent knocking. and who the fuck designs a spaceship door to automatically open when there is a pressure difference.
Lots of familiar villains seen in Time Heist.

Maybe it detects a certain pressure change when someone unlocks it and automatically opens it for them. It's not too much of a stretch, it's just useful.
There was no monster. It was all in the Doctors mind. Everything can be logically and reasonably explained, the Doctor is in a fervour for the entire episode, he seems hell bent on proving his theory no matter what.
10/10. Golden age. Bravo Moffat. Bravo Freeze Sr.

clever camera work to throw the audience off realising its just a kid
man it really was so fucking clever
When the doctor has come across vashta nerada and that thing in midnight.
its not impossible to imagine a creature that can wear a bedsheet.

Don't get me wrong i got the idea of there being no monster just fine, mind playing tricks and all that but it needed a rounded resolution to it especially when throughout the episode i was reminded of the silence and that worm thing from ponds house which was always behind you.
I say 'needed', i mean if you wanted a definitive answer you never get one.
you're literally missing the entire point of the episode
EDIT: someone who gets it back me up pls
i think you're missing the point of the episode if you're 100% on it, even steven moffat doesn't know for sure if there was something there or not. this aspect of the episode was designed to be discussed and debated until the end of time.
the fear is the important part, not the source. if there was a monster under the blanket or if there was a boy under the blanket it doesn't really matter, being scared was the outcome regardless

The point was that he was playing off your expectations. You expected there to be a monster, but there wasn't one. It's really that simple. It had a resolution. It's like you both are saying that there absolutely needs to be a monster of the week, instead of a really interesting, well-written story. Like, if there actually had been some creature, the impact of the story would've been diminished completely.
also the direction was pretty great as well

Peter on wires :v:
The way I took the bedroom scene when they were all facing the window is that it was mostly from the childs' point of view. He's the one that became the subject in the scene and it's typically kids that have the most vivid imaginations for this sort of thing. What we saw wasn't primarily some 'monster of the week' (although it could have been, this is purely my own take) but instead what a kid thought was behind them.
The same somewhat applies for Awesome in the future, he'd been there for 6 months stranded and came to believe something was out there.
For someone who dealt with night terrors commonly for a decade, this ep spooked me out a lot.
Also, we've dealt with monsters in the dark before.

I disagree absolutely. My understanding of it was that the moment where the Doctor and Clara plant that idea in Rupert's head and change his entire life was directly mirrored by the time that Clara grabs the Doctor's leg and instantly alters the Doctor's path. Remember, the Doctor thought that everybody must have that dream once in their lives, but that was just a theory. When he actually asked if Clara had had that specific dream she was all like "I dunno, maybe?" Then, when they got to Rupert, he hadn't had that specific dream - he just thought someone was under the bed.
The Doctor was so hell-bent on the theory that "everyone has that dream -> maybe there's a reason -> maybe there is something under the bed" because there was something under the bed that night: CLARA. That moment followed him the rest of his life. Whenever he's alone for too long - without a companion - he remembers it and freaks the fuck out, and eventually decides "sod it, let's try and figure this out". So he grabs Clara, goes off, and without knowing it actually creates that fear for himself. But in doing so Clara also ingrains the idea of running away, of having a companion, of being the Doctor.
Essentially, this episode was a character study. Moffat wrote a story which pretended to be about the monster under the bed, when really it was about the scared kid on top of it.
I disagree absolutely.
I don't think that's possible :v: I think Freeze might have a chance of knowing what the intention of the episode was. Separate from our interpretation, of course.
Excellent direction, by the way ; )
