Just saw it and I really enjoyed it. Also, that thinly-veiled Malcolm Tucker reference when he's telling everyone to shut up :v:
RadioTimes rated 1 star. Very harsh IMO. I wouldn't rate it among the absolute worst of Who.
It is coming from the guy who thinks Cold Blood is better than both Amy's Choice and The Lodger. I agree that the mix is bad this series. The sound mixer for some reason doesn't listen to it on a regular TV to test it and only in perfect conditions. The music is oddly placed too, that last track made it feel like something else was going to happen (but it wasn't).
Time Heist was great, let's keep up the momentum here. It sure had a bad case of "if we change the colour of the lighting nobody will notice that we've been using the same hallway for ten minutes straight" though. Good to see the budget being spent on sets though and not on overblown CGI sequences. Animatronics for the Teller were really cool. [sp]That scene of the two Tellers [/sp] at the end was pretty silly though.
I guess classic Who really is back!
Every episode from this point I am eagerly anticipating. ROS and TH were two I didn't care for on paper. ROS was fun but TH was just not my cup of tea. Every episode post Caretaker has Listen-level hype for me. But I think Caretaker will be great fun too.
Ratings wise, we're in an unprecedented run of episodes in the top 10 at the start of a series. The golden age is real. (I'll keep that going for you, EG <3)

Just got around to watching Time Heist. It was an interesting episode and I really enjoyed watching it. It's definitely filler stuff but hey, it was still fun. Also the Teller looked so freaking cool.
RadioTimes happier with Caretaker
Hope people will love Gareth @OldRoberts953's episode The Caretaker as much as I do. Forget the naff trailer. #warmglow #DoctorWho
Adored this episode. Of course, I also love heist movies. The scene with them entering the bank to a spy tune gave me a great big smile.

thank goodness they're using the proper theme
The mixing on that was worse than the show itself! What did Danny say at the end?
Oh my God, you're from space.
At first I heard "Oh my god, you're a face" :v:

so I just watched Time Heist. I can't tell if it's because I'm running on four hours sleep with the hangover from hell, but I absolutely hated it. The transitions were really jarring, I guessed that the Architect was the Doctor as soon as I realised time travel was involved, Clara did literally nothing in that episode and wasn't needed at all. Worst episode of s8 for me and will probably stay that way considering every episode post-Caretaker has Listen levels of GOLDEN AGE potential. Capaldi was once again 10/10 in that episode though, loved the The Thick Of It reference and how he literally doesn't give a shit about people dying. He's a great Doctor. in summary: Thompson is a bad writer and I don't know how he keeps getting stories.
Time Heist was an alright episode, but the one thing i didn't like about it was that it was meant to be the most secure bank in the universe but it had hardly any security. There was [sp]the Teller and the large Vault door but that was pretty much it, other than about 2 guards. [/sp]
The cinematography when they entered the bank reminded me a lot of BBC's Hustle. Though I assume that was the point.

Nah security was pretty tight, with the DNA checks and the instant incineration if you were guilty. The Teller was pretty foolproof too. I just didn't like the concept of the episode at all. The editing was a bit ehhh too, it was too disjointed. I don't know if that was Thompson's fault or MacKinnon's fault (sorry if it was, Freeze). And was it me or did the solar flare shit just suddenly come out of nowhere? Like I don't know if I missed a reference to it earlier in the episode but it just seemed to pop up out of plot convenience.
you don't need to be sorry, just cause he's my dad it doesn't mean he's immune from criticism (for the record though I believe he wasn't around for the later stages of editing for time heist due to something unpredictable coming up)
Kill the Moon Golden Age Very-Slightly-Different Synopsis
The time-hopping companions arrive in the near future on a run-down space shuttle heading for the moon. Crash-landing on the surface, the travellers are confronted with the sight of a mining base full of corpses - while vicious, spider-like creatures wait in the dark, ready to attack. But just when she needs him the most, Clara is left wondering whether the Doctor is a good man after all - or even her friend.
Thompson like Gatiss is a great writer who can't do Doctor Who nearly as good as he does everything else. That said, those who haven't been feeling the series so far have ADORED Time Heist. So Doctor Who is different for everybody.
That said, those who haven't been feeling the series so far have ADORED Time Heist. So Doctor Who is different for everybody.
Yeah, the majority of Gallifrey Base is giving it an 8 out of 10 which is surprising to me.
Didn't even seem all that heisty to me. They did like two things and didn't really know what was going on themselves.
Yeah, the majority of Gallifrey Base is giving it an 8 out of 10 which is surprising to me.
I gave it 7. Disagree all you like, peasants.
I'd give it a 7.5
