Cultbox Spoiler Free Review
Except that this time it’s not the Craig-hugging chummy Time Lord. Twelve is far more arch and cantankerous, but for the first time since he put his pre-creased face on he seems like he’s actually enjoying what he’s doing.
Link
Finally saw Listen and Time Heist (no cable. . .had to download the episodes to my tablet). Time Heist, I felt, had a slow buildup. But it had a nice second half. And the opening scene (phone call, [sp]cut to memory wiped characters[/sp]) drew me in. It dragged at times, but it didn't bore me. And I liked the ending. The core characters were decently likeable. If anything, I felt it suffered from pacing/editing issues. Listen, however. . .was a fucking masterpiece. It was the episode I had been waiting for since Capaldi was cast. The opening monologue was beautifully written, and superbly delivered by Capaldi. The ending was touching. When [sp]the episode revealed that the "danger" was nothing more than the Doctor's own paranoia[/sp], I found myself grinning, and saying "Okay, Moffat. . .I see what you did there." When Clara [sp]realized who the child was. . .realized what barn she was in. . .when it cut to the flashback of the War Doctor. . .[/sp] I had my first real fanboy moment of the season. Time Heist was fun, but not much more than that. Listen, however, was a ride I'm glad I got to take. And, like any good theme park ride, I repeated it several times in a row. It just kept getting better with each viewing. [editline]24th September 2014[/editline] I also feel like pointing out that Listen gave us [sp]12's first use of psychic paper.[/sp] I'm shocked you guys aren't making a bigger deal about that. Because it was awesome.
We were ready for it! :v: But yes, I'm oddly glad it's back. Den of Geek Spoiler Free Review
A successful episode, this one. There's no clear reason, mind you, why this tonally needs to be shown so late - The Caretaker goes out at 8.30pm on Saturday night. Judging by the tease at the end for Kill The Moon, though, the same might not be said for episode 7. The Caretaker, though, is well worth waiting for.
Link Teasing those spider monsters, already :( 'Time Heist' Ratings Update Live+VOSDAL: 4.937m + Day 1: 5.997m + Day 2: 6.444m + Day 3: 6.565m
Just to make people feel a bit better with these numbers, I've looked into the potential time adjustments. From my estimations the episode aired from 19:33 to 20:17, which averages at 6.769m. An increase of over 200k on the current figures.
We may be back on for 7m!!
Call me a feeble-hearted milquetoast if you will, but Kill The Moon is very creepy and packs quite a punch. Excellent stuff. #DoctorWho

...Listen and Kill the Moon are definitely the outstanding highlights so far.
https://twitter.com/paulwhitelaw Bonus
@ManningOfficial Filming casualty ! but today visited a very special Doctor in his Tardis ! Pics on twitter this Saturday ! So excited ! Xxx
Anyone think this suited Season 8's theme more? Also wondering why the fob watch is in the current intro, the one The Master possessed.

And with regards to the fob watch, no, it isn't? Yes there's gears and clockwork and stuff but you can't really tell whose watch it is.
Know who else carried a fob watch? Tom Hanks in The Polar Express. . . . TOM HANKS CONFIRMED AS THE MASTER
Also wondering why the fob watch is in the current intro, the one The Master possessed.
There is no fob watch in the intro. Hanshaw was told it had to go.
Question: Since Galifrey was saved from the Time War what does this mean for the Master's ultimate fate at the end of the Tennant era?
Question: Since Galifrey was saved from the Time War what does this mean for the Master's ultimate fate at the end of the Tennant era?
Who knows... We don't know what happened to Rassilon. All that was said in Day was that the High Council's plans had failed. To ensure End of Time wasn't undone, I expect.
uh did noone notice that the bank loudspeaker was the stanley parable guy
Yes, and it was mentioned quite a lot on Twitter.
As nice as it was to see him get voice work (even if it was uncredited), I do wonder why they made the vault computer have such a cheery voice, especially when all it's doing is counting down. Admittedly, I'd kind of hoped they were going to use Kevan as some sort of malevolent AI with a much larger role in an episode.
One thing I've started to really hate the kind of "polite murder" stuff that happens every few episodes. Time Heist: "We really don't want to hurt you before you're incinerated" The Girl Who Waited: "Do not be alarm, this is a kindness" (I know it was actually medicine, but still) Let's Kill Hitler: "Welcome, you are unauthorised. Your death will now be implemented. Please remain calm while your life is terminated. Please cooperate in your officially sanctioned termination"

Brilliant.
So I watched The Daleks today, first Doctor Who story I've had to take a break from because of the sheer length of it. Edging close to three hours long, probably didn't help that the story was dragging its heels in places. Edge Of Destruction next, then on to The Seeds Of Death.
Brilliant.
Nice to see him mention River there.
Capaldi is still growing on me, but the same way Smith was at the time. You don't appreciate the current actor until they've been replaced, whether that's just me..
"Go and worship something." I spat out my drink.
Blogtor Who Review: http://blogtorwho.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/preview-caretaker-spoilerfree.html I agree about "the thing."
Blogtor Who Review: http://blogtorwho.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/preview-caretaker-spoilerfree.html I agree about "the thing."
With regard to the Doctor's personality (the review highlights the differences between the 'she cares so I don't have to' of Into the Dalek and his caring side shown in this episode), it can be a little difficult to pin down an incarnation's personality so early in his run, especially seeing as all these scripts were written before Capaldi got to put his own spin on the role. Series 9 onwards will probably be a bit more consistent character-wise.
Just watched The Angels of Manhatten again. For some reason I don't think the ending to Amy/Rory was as tragic as other companions. I specifically remember shedding a tear for Bad Wolf, I mean Rose. Regardless, I look forward to the new episode. I do love that he brought up River. I forget what happens to her, suppose that's why I am rewatching all of Doctor Who.
amy and rory wasn't so much tragic as incredibly shoehorned and disappointing as to what happens with river there will be no talking in the library.
Ohhh right yeah. Forgot about that. Such a sham that we'll pretty much never hear of her again. I don't suppose he can go back to the Library and somehow talk with her through the AI? Such a shitty way for such a powerful character to go out.
Name of The Doctor established that we can see River again - and apparently that the Doctor is able to go and speak to her, but chooses not to. Like many of his companions, at the end of the day..
I've read at least one review that says Courtney is a highlight of the episode. And you all were ready to dismiss the Golden Age! [editline]26th September 2014[/editline]
Blogtor Who Review: http://blogtorwho.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/preview-caretaker-spoilerfree.html I agree about "the thing."
"The thing" is getting a bit grating. It's quickly becoming the modern day reverse the polarity. I believe Deep Breath is the only episode to not have it feature so far. It's like 7A and "Christmas". Maybe he'll escape and help lure The Doctor back. Maybe he's dead and is in heaven with Missy. Maybe he usurped Rassilon and now rules as Lord President. or maybe Moffat said The Master story is done and he has no interest in that character :(
