what was the Blink reference?
the cd that courtney used to take the tardis to the doctor
the cd that courtney used to take the tardis to the doctor
for a moment i was absolutely sure she had stopped listening before the doctor told her to hold onto the console and that she was gonna get left behind / die in the shuttle
and then the door opened and it was like fair enough top marks for listening
i hope we never see courtney again
i loved the opening of the episode. the moon looked pretty good. i hated the fact that the doctor had to tell courtney she was special. but the rest of it made me go
wait
what
i hope we never see courtney again
I have a feeling she's going to become a recurring character
Or hopefully we never see her again like those two insufferable children from that amusement park episode

i forgot all about how those children appeared and disappeared again.
apparently the episode was originally written with those two children in mind but was changed :v:

Could have worked if they killed the second kid off in the first spider attack and show the acid melting away at the child's flesh while it screams in agony.
There's your darkest ever Doctor Who episode.
...but that probably wouldn't be allowed.
I would have preferred if the audio of the [sp]moon hatching[/sp] wasn't going on at the same time as the visuals.
It should have had a delay, but it didn't and that was the annoying part about the episode for me.
Courtney was absolutely fine.
Liked the last 5 mins, but fuck me i was not impressed by the baby alien dragon egg thing. When you have fucking space spiders you use em better than that, just fucking anything centering around them and it would have been better, here's a plot I'm pulling out of my ass.
Space spiders travel from planet to planet and eat everything under the surface and multiply by hundreds within a year a planet is completely hollowed out, when the spiders have finished the planet crumbles away and they all hitch rides on debris to their next planet to carry on, Earth is next on their list when they finish with the moon, some such bollocks about how Saturn or Jupiter suffered that fate. They die in direct sunlight so Doctor creates a mirror or something to reflect the sun onto the dark of the moon and then forces the spiders to the surface by placing a giant conker in the center of the planet. They all flee to the surface and burn away to dust instantly. Tucker saves the day but the moon still gets nuked cause humanity gets trigger happy and fucks itself over to which the doctor takes out his anger of human stupidity / infancy on Clara and thus we get the rift.
fuck it.
I'm just annoyed that the monster was criminally underused so ignore that shit above.
Nah, that would never work what do you think this is?
Some kind of Sci-fi?
alright I'll sum up my opinion of this episode;
*Courtney can fuck off
*Clara can fuck off, the whole who is this impossible girl thing is shit and rubbish now
*Mr Pink can stay around, I'm kind of interested in his role
*The episode was well done, the moon parts with the bacteria, and the beginning of the episode with them discovering the mexican drilling station
*The rest of the episode was shit. Complete shit. Moon is an Egg. Moon hatches. Has no repercussions at all. Lays another Moon literally 30 seconds later.
*Again, Clara can fuck off
*Clara needs to fuck off with her period insinuated misfits toward the Doctor
*The Doctor needs to find another guy like Rory, someone who's actually fun to tag along, not someone who consistently manipulates the Doctor
my review
okay
*Clara needs to fuck off with her period insinuated misfits toward the Doctor
I must say I've never encountered this phrase before...
*The Doctor needs to find another guy like Rory, someone who's actually fun to tag along, not someone who consistently manipulates the Doctor
Rory was always captain worrywarts until his last few appearances and I have no idea what you're on about with the "constantly manipulates the Doctor" milarky.
Where exactly did the extra mass in the moon come from? A growing creature can't increase in mass unless it gets it from an outside source. Can the moon-egg's surface turn sunlight into food?
Also, if Courtney becomes President that either means she's American-born, or the U.S. Congress amends the Constitution sometime in the next 30 years.
How the fuck can [sp]Courtney be president in 2049 if she's a citizen born in the UK?[/sp]
courtney is tough as nails for acting fine after seeing a man get killed by a horror spider
or maybe she's just badly written
The writers are getting way too overzealous on their usage of the word "thing".
"I'll do a thing"
"A thing will happen"
"One small thing for a thing"
Alright, it as funny in The Sontaran Stratagem, and again in Flesh and Stone, a whole season later. But so much saturation of the word this season is really getting on my nerves.

It wasn't that bad, sure the story was weak but I'm impressed how far the production quality has come. That's the problem we've had with Series 8 though, all episodes except for Listen (and possibly Deep Breath) were very sub-standard in my opinion.
Oh, thank god, I was thinking I'd come in here and have the usual routine of everybody loving the episode while I didn't like it. God, what a stupid episode.
Last bit was good though.
And fucking Mummy on the Orient Express appears to be the brainchild of somebody who marathoned Galaxy Express 999 and then got a job on the writing staff.

This is the problem that shows have whenever they try to stack a logical decision that isn't nice but makes sense against the emotional decision that relies on "but what if it's fine" to work and they try to sell you the emotional one. It never works because the audience defaults to the one that makes and when it works out for the emotional argument it's because reality warps to contrive to the main character's viewpoint.
tbh i'd be happy if we never see clara again im really getting sick of her
I didn't buy into the hype to this week's episode because all that it was buzz words and numbers but even without it this was an episode that was entirely built around a moral dilemma, one that was pompous, preachy, labored and intensely juvenile and had no impact or lasting impression on the outcome of the story bar Clara leaving for an episode so we can have the guest fest' next week.
Even without the moral dilemma you've got a story that really doesn't add up; why do the bacteria spin webs when they aren't really spiders? why is the president of the united states a Brit? why didn't the destruction of the moon flood the earth, if only briefly? how dose a newly born creature lay an egg larger than it? why dose the gravity suddenly give out when the spiders are attacking? why would Courtney fallout of the tardis as it was dematerialising if she didn't hold on? why did they make a big thing about the Doctor not calling Courtney 'special' and then completely forget about it till the end?
The only positive I can see that there is is the performances of Capaldi and Coleman but then that goes without saying and even that alone cannot save an episode like this and I'm getting sick of them having to carry poorly written episodes as they really deserve better.
I understand that some people may have liked it, or failing that disliked it less than me and all the power to you, but for me, honestly, after the episode ended I really didn't want to watch the show anymore and jesus I'm a wilderness years Doctor Who fan; I started watching it after the 90's movie bit the dust and the talk of a new series was the talk of mad men and had to make do with repeats on UKGold made almost entirely of the bad stories from the 6th and 7th Doctor's time.
And now that I've calmed down I don't feel angry, I just feel really disappointed, I know that they can do better, hell, I wasn't a fan of Listen but at least that was a set in the right direction and proves that they can do better, but this...
This border lined Twin Dilemma bad.
tbh i'd be happy if we never see clara again im really getting sick of her
I think the thing is at this stage is that she is not meant to be. I think her friendship with The Doctor is imploding and breaking up, that and her somewhat strained relationship with Danny isn't helping either. I think its only going to get even messier as this series goes on.
I don't know why you were all expecting a super dark horror show. You were expecting something other than Doctor Who. Clearly the moon being an egg is very Doctor Who and the sort of thing I love about the show.
When The Doctor left it felt like Q abandoning The Enterprises' Away Team and leaving them to deal with a moral dilemma which doubles up as a modern day social commentary (ie: abortion or murder of the unknown). It felt very much like TNG in those final moments.
My only real problem with that episode was the egg laying and how quickly Clara got over being angry after chatting to Danny. The Doctor did an awful hypocritical thing. Then she just got over it.
why would Courtney fallout of the tardis as it was dematerialising if she didn't hold on?
That's what happened to Sally Sparrow in Blink when she inserted the DVD into the TARDIS

But it doesn't need to be super dark it just needs to be good and if it wants to be dark then it needs to at the very least go through with it and see it to the end and not magically resolve everything at the end.
Otherwise what's the point in having it in?
Doctor Who is a family evening drama which is self contained every week. This is isn't Breaking Bad. It's not Twin Peaks. It's not Game of Thrones. Its 45 minutes of family entertainment to keep the kids quiet. It's scary for them not us. I watched for the adventure. As far as 'Dark Doctod Who' goes that was seeing it to the end. A dark eerie adventure which was Hinchcliffed to shit for the first half and then Classic Who for the end.

But it doesn't need to be Breaking Bad, it doesn't need to be adult or mature or dark it just needs to follow it's own story.
You cannot spend half an episode talking about the morality of killing an unborn life form and the ramifications that that could have positive or negative and opt to ignore those ramifications when they select their answer.
Doctor Who or not that is just terrible writing.
And to say that 'it's just family show so it doesn't matter' as that just ignores the issue completely and what's more kids aren't dumb, they may not understand the nuances of the moral dilemma but they are just going to walk away from it asking 'so what was all the fuss about?' or 'where are the killer spiders?'.
