My only problem is Moffat. One thing I loved about Doctor Who was the character development that RTD offered. Moffat had a good spell with Smith as the Doctor, but you could tell it was stretching during S7.
Moffat has way better character development then RTD
I won't say that I disliked this episode, because I didn't. In fact I thought it was pretty good... compared to the other episodes this season.
It seems at the moment the public is split. The young audience don't really like it. Fans are (mostly) loving it. Critics are praising it higher than before. Series 8 is the marmite age. It's Series 5 all over again. The people that don't like it will drop off. New viewers will slowly come in. The only episode I've disliked is Time Heist, compared to Eleventh Doctor series' I'd say Time Heist is gold but compared to the rest of Series 8 it's meh. I don't accept Samuel Anderson is a bad actor for how he talks and moves his head and body. That's how Samuel Anderson talks. That's how some people talk and move. That's nothing to do with acting. I realy felt for him and emoted. Courtney was a bad actor. GOT has shown has child actors shouldn't be inherently bad. Infact once upon a time Doctor Who had shining child actors *sigh*. She tried and she was watchable. I agree with Grizz. I'm out until Series 8 is over. Have fun dudes (and people of other genders). Just because a lot of people think one episode isn't that good doesn't suddenly make series 8 the marmite age. The majority of people have been enjoying series 8 (hence the pretty consistent ratings) - it's literally just this one episode that a lot of people are being negative about. One episode doesn't ruin an entire series.

My post was nothing to do specifically with the episode, by the reaction in general. if you read forums or comments anywhere on just search the words "dr who" or "doctor Who" on Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook you'll see it's hit or miss. Just like Series 5. Just like Series 1. It's a changing of the tide. To me it's the golden age. To everybody else the marmite one. The AI is average. The BBC resorts to surveying the audience. Even respected newspapers are blinding running the "ratings disaster" stories. The ratings, though consistent, will end up with a fairly unspectacular average at the end (for Who) None of it matters. I'll enjoy the series how I want to and at at the end come on here and see what everybody else thought without it overshadowing my own enjoyment. That's how I most enjoy it.
The way I see it is like video game critiquing the majority can hate/dislike a game but then I come along being one of the very few who absolutely loved it. And that's how i am with this season and every season really some episodes are better than others but heck i enjoyed Love and Monsters when it was on. Who even finds ratings an accurate representation of viewings nowadays be it illegal i bet Alot of people torrent the episodes thus not being counted. Point is doctor who is a family show it's not going to be your perfectly crafted stories every time, hell even some of classic who has sub par stories.
It looks like Mummy is the episode with Foxes in at least it didn't end up being "Doctor Who featuring Foxes who has a new album out right now plug plug plug"

Some people love the series and some people hate it - because while this also is happening, it's not happening that much. Most people are enjoying the series from what I've seen. Not love nor hate. I feel like it's only Kill the Moon in particular that has been 'marmite' so far. 2. By 'I'm out until Series 8 is over.' do you mean you're not looking at newspapers, previews, twitter etc or do you mean you're doing that and by nature of that leaving this section of the forums? I assumed you and Grizz meant leaving this section of the forums but you've already come back so I'm confused. There's nothing wrong (obviously) with staying away from the everyone and the media while watching to have a veil of ignorance and to not have others thoughts affect yours - but to suggest that this season of Doctor Who is being disliked more than usual just isn't correct. Yes - Kill the Moon caused some controversy so that's probably why places like twitter are bad right now but for episodes like Listen (and trust me, I was looking) the reaction is overwhelmingly positive.
Mummy on the Orient Express seemed like the most boring episode of the series when I read the previews, but now it seems like it could be a good episode actually.
Best episode I've seen so far. Loved it!
Best episode I've seen so far. Loved it!
u fukn wot
That's the problem with most of y'all. Just don't read those reviews and go blind into the episode.
I was thinking of the descriptions that were released with the episode titles as previews. I agree that it is best to go in blind and that's what I've been doing for more or less every episode.
I'm really excited for the Mummy episode. But overall I've thought S8 has been incredibly average, far better than some of the dire stories they gave Matt Smith to muddle through though.
Whether you thought the story of an episode was dumb or great, none of us are knocking Capaldi's or Coleman's acting, if it wasn't for them giving great performances I'm sure this place would be a lot more divided.
Kill The Moon was a disappointment but Capaldi and Coleman's acting was pretty good. It was just a very eh story.
The voting system made absolutely no sense. Especially when you remember half the earth doesn't get to vote because it's daytime over there.
I also can't help but feel there was something seriously weird going on with the location of the sun, when on the moon, they could only see the dark side of earth, IE, the locations must be: Moon>>>>>>Earth>>>>>Sun So how come, when they went down to earth again, the beach was suddenly completely daytimey.
That one is easily explained he zipped a few days in time to when the moon actually hatched
So then what was this whole business with "you have 45 minutes to decide". I know that was the countdown for the nukes, but they were pretty easily cancelled with a button. So that kind of begs the question "did the Doctor know they had a few days to decide?"
nah it begs the question "Is Peter Harness a shitty Doctor Who writer?" the answer is yes
nah it begs the question "Is Peter Harness a shitty Doctor Who writer?" the answer is yes
One bad story doesn't make them a shitty Doctor Who writer. May I remind you that the guy who wrote Midnight is the same person who wrote Love and Monsters. EDIT: The script wasn't even bad.. it just had some bad parts. I don't see how you can say he's a shitty writer and yet say Kill the Moon is your favourite of Series 8.
Really the only bad part of the episode was Courtney, she's such a terrible character
