I also really didn't find the beach scene convincing as something Clara could take as reasoning for being a sociopath recently. Firstly just the writing, the Doctor saying sometimes he has to make impossible decisions seems silly as it doesn't excuse his behaviour at all, and in this episode alone Clara witnessed his manipulation and callousness and called him out for doing it all again. But secondly there's a dramatic irony going on with the repeated scenes where it's left ambiguous as to whether the Doctor just murdered someone in cold blood, etc. (See the first episode with the automaton falling/jumping out the TARDIS). The joke the Dr makes is in some seriously dark humour - no Clara that was just my cover story I let everyone but you suffocate haha. To us as the audience we're not being persuaded that he's got reasons for how he behaves, he's (implied) joking about a really horrific act he may have actually done, which completely undermines the scene. The Doctor hasn't changed at all but Clara's back for the ride - and that's a complete "fuck you" from the writer's to the audience, especially since as I'm inclined to believe the Doctor's arc of being a psychopath hasn't run it's course yet, so he'll continue to act like that, and either Clara won't react badly to it (which would be disingenuous) or she WILL and she'll leave again hating him, in which case it should have bloody well ended with Kill the Moon. [sp] I liked the actual story of the episode, but nothing at all about the Clara Doctor plot, besides their acting. [/sp]

[/sp]
I literally just thought about this, then realised that Perkins made it out, so I think it's safe to assume the rest of them did too. The one thing that bugged me this episode was how Clara suddenly got out of the luggage room, when she had been trapped with no hope just before... Even with that though, I enjoyed it immensely.
Hurray for 20's fashion! But in all seriousness that was a great episode with no obvious plot holes like last time, and continues the string of great performances of the main two with the supporting cast also getting in on it. That and Queen. Queen, always good choice.

second favourite episode of this season for me, also I love how new doctor who is a bit more brutal, like when those chefs floated by the window
Some of the Clara drama was really unnecessary, but the actual story was pretty good. Made up for last week.
After someone mentioned it about Time Heist, I couldn't help but notice that the villain was again doing the whole "polite murder" thing.
My new dekstop. What do you guys think of it?
Your images don't work
It feels like we should have found out who Gus was properly.
Will I still agree about those first too, Listen still is a 10/10 for me. Sheer perfection.
yeah i'm probably being a bit stingy i want to hold back on calling anything perfection though, because you never know if something better can arrive until it's over. how many episodes do we have left this season?
4 + Christmas
It feels like we should have found out who Gus was properly.
I feel like we still might. The way the Doctor put it was very open.
Here are some advanced warnings about Flatline just so you don't all faint when you see such horrors. They don't relate to the story AT ALL (like seriously) but I'll spoiler tag them just incase for some reason you don't want to be mentally prepared for such monstrous technical difficulties: [sp]At one point in the episode the Doctor's hair randomly changes length. The hair stylist(s) messed up. I know, I know - I wanted to sue them too. Also at some points the effects don't completely hold up. This is probably the hardest episode to do effects wise so give the effects team a break. They're generally pretty damn good but there's a couple of scenes that make you go 'eh'.[/sp]
It feels like we should have found out who Gus was properly.
Gotta have a bit of mystery for another time. Also I felt the story would have gotten a bit crowded with an investigation into that too.
I really enjoyed this week's episode, my second favourite of this series, needless to say I enjoyed it more than last week's episode but for me this episode did everything that that episode set out to do and fail to do most specifically the moral issue as this episode had one and actually ran with it and took it to it's logical end, no BS and no silly speeches. Did erk me at how chummy Clara and the Doctor were at the start of the episode -given what happened at the end of last week's- but at least it was explained some way, even if it feels like a retrospective addition.
Honestly... just get rid of Clara, and the show would improve so much. As good as she is this season... their relationship just doesn't feel right.

next week's episode has a lot less of the clara/doctor relationship stuff so if you've been disliking that at least now you've got something to look forward to :v:
Next week's episode looks great, hopefully sign of things to come
the thing that bothered me about this episode is how drastic the change was about how clara felt about the doctor at the end of kill the moon and the beginning of this episode. AND to top it off it was written with the change of heart at the end that clara needed the opinions of danny (not of her own free will) to feel like she was permitted to travel with the doctor. the plot was cool, but how it is between the doctor and clara now makes me want a fresh new companion.
I don't get what Clara meant by Did a wizard put a curse on you about mini-breaks?
